The Navy's demonstration team was in town for an air show this weekend. That's Mount Garfield behind them. It dominates the landscape north of town.
The F-290 Pitviper is a near future upgrade of the Grumman X-29 forward swept wing concept. The DSN felt that not only should we have excellent high performance fighter aircraft... but they should look cool too.
The aircraft features two seats for a pilot and RIO, working landing gear and gear doors, underwing fuel tanks, and four movable control surfaces: canards, and aft deck up/down flap/spoilers.
The front few studs of the nose shape was copied pretty closely from a beautiful build by Ralph Savelsberg.

I was so hyped that Top Gun: Maverick is finally coming to theaters that I just had to build the iconic F-14 Tomcat, the fighter jet from the original movie, complete with it´s signature folding wings. The long awaited sequel has it´s Swedish premiere tomorrow and I´ll be there, ´cause I feel the need, the need for speed!
