It's not the first time I've seen a Merlin with the remains of small birds. More impressive, I once was lucky enough to see a Merlin take on both a Cooper's and Red-shouldered Hawks that wandered into a Merlin's territory at the same time. Truly imposing raptor.

Male Marsh Wrens are rather busy guys. They routinely mate with two or more females and build at least six dummy nests for every female they mate with. They are tiny but fierce when fighting for resources and regularly pierce eggs and kill nestlings of other Marsh Wrens and birds. (Cornell)

Just finished a two day photoshop workshop in Montreal, hosted by the amazing Benjamin von Wong. This was done on day two with the beautiful model Anne T.
I had two exciting days working with eager people who where willing to learn andI do feel they picked up quite well on all the things I showed them. Even I learned an awful lot as well.

Week 17 | Scale
King Kieran’s expression matches the ominous stormy skies. Positioning the camera low to the ground makes him appear larger than the massively tall Douglas fir forests giving a sense of scale for this week's photo challenge.

After several days of being under the weather, I'm just about ready to get back at things!

Last week, I visited Marwell Zoo with family. It's a nice zoo, but many of the animals were simply not around or not visible for most of the day. During the last couple of hours, when most people had left, we had the place to ourselves, and the big cats came out to play; most notably the Amur Leopard cub, who made one of her first ventures out of the den. We got to watch her for nearly an hour at the end of the day, which was really nice.

it’s been a fjord full of waves since i got home, fierce winds and rain whipping — but slowly starting to subside this evening…
8th street pasture in mid day, fierce winds, but with the car as a tripod I managed a few acceptable shots. Crane series next. few sandhill cranes in the field, as well as a juvenile.
