Scintillating glass optical fibers are the first viable medium for large-area, solid-state, thermal neutron sensors that have applications in national security, medicine, and materials research. Here, ultraviolet-induced fluorescence mimics scintillation.

Inner strands of 550 paracord. I use the orange for tying down tarps and other shelter covers so I don't trip over the cord, like I have in the past.
My friends are currently traveling in Bhutan. They have been sending along photos which pleases me to no end.
Here are some Bhutanese women admiring a hat that I MADE.

Lightguide Connector Bay. The original color distracts from the symmetrical mesmerizing effect, so I desaturated it.
The branch is a plain branch but the frost makes it have the needle-like fibers. I love what nature can do.
The fiber is ready to be blown in a Blolite Microduct. (La fibra è pronta per essere soffiata nel tubetto Blolite che collegherà il nuovo datacenter con l'attuale).

Modern day version of 2 cans with a string (by Kevin Rouviere)
Transmits audio from one can to another over fiber optic cable. Just because.
I had this idea for awhile to make a modern version of the old kids toy. This quick prototype is based on a simple kit that I found at the Maker Shed store at Maker Faire 2009 in San Mateo. I built the circuit boards and installed them into these cans to show the concept. I've been thinking of making a full duplex version or even a digital version with CD quality sound, but those ideas have yet to leave the drawing board :-)
Update: Someone at hackaday was kind enough to find and post a link to the original kit I based this project on.

Working at a Boeing facility in a composites shop, I thought it would be cool to make a wallpaper of Boeing's logo on top of a carbon fiber background.
The Boeing logo, of course, belongs to Boeing Company, and I do not use it on their behalf; I merely use it in a fair use capacity.

Raw canvas, satins and hand-dyed silk fabrics were cut into 2" squares and sewn together to create a design on 3 triangles. Embellished with machine quilting using metallic thread. Each triptych
measures about 77" wide x 33" high and 4 1/2" deep. each separate piece weighs about 15 lbs and is covered with a custom made plexi-glass casing.

Processing Abaca Fiber somewhere in Sogod, Southern Leyte. Abaca (aka Manila Hemp) is a kind of banana specie that bear less edible fruit but the trunk being harvested for its fiber. They said that it's considered strongest of all natural fibers in the world. The fiber can be used to make teabags, ropes, currency, clothing, lens tissue, insulation for computer chips, and etc. They sell Abaca fiber for around US$1/kilo.
The fibers coming from the blue Blolite ducts are being spliced to the pigtails positionted in the front panel. (Le fibre partono dal datacenter esistente di Milano. Verranno collegate ad uno switch).
Inspired by past Cyber Punk MOCs, I'd always wanted to do my own... but i thought I would take it a different direction.
Using various fabric / sails and all the elf-earred hair pieces i own, i was pretty stoked with what came out.
The cables are plowed in or buried in a trench; the installation process can be very quick. The most common cables used for direct burial are steel armored outdoor fiber cables. ... Fiber optic cables can also be pulled through underground ducts, which protect the cables from harsh environment.
