The dream of every citizen of the former German Democratic Republic: a Trabant car from Sachsenring. Front-wheel drive, two-stroke engine, thermoset body and often ordered in sky blue with pleasure. In 1976 the Trabant provided 47% of all cars used in the GDR. The dream usually lasted a very long time – there was often over 10 years of waiting. Then there was great joy for the mobility that was finally gained. However, this model was sometimes delivered without a steering wheel. You had to get that to really get going :-)
The Trabant is nicknamed "racing cardboard" because of the body made of pressed paper (soaked in phenol resin), which is reinforced with short cotton fibers.

Our Daily Challenge: MULTICOLOR
This cloth is orange, coppery, blue and there are thin stripes of red and yellow. So it very well fits the theme multicolor.

It's beautiful, this life.
Every emotion, every feeling. The good and the bad.
The scent in the air as spring turns to summer, the chill as day turns to night. The rush of a waterfall and the taste of a fresh fruit from the Farmer's Market. Talks with friends that leave you feeling like the luckiest person in the world. A really good movie, a song that prompts you to dance, a beautiful person that catches your eye and makes you catch your breath.
The feeling of watching the world fly by through a train window, and seeing landscapes from above. And music. Songs that can make you cry no matter how long it's been since you heard it last. Music that gets into the very fiber of your bones and changes the way you think about little moments.
The pain of heartbreak, even, is a beautiful thing. The feeling of loss in the pit of your stomach, and the salty tears on your chin. The bittersweet feeling of watching someone you love feel happiness, even if you're not responsible for it. The heaviness of longing and the bitter taste of loneliness. The fact that our hearts have the capacity to feel so much is truly remarkable.
Life is beautiful, so very beautiful. Every once in a while I forget to appreciate it as I should, but in moments like these, I feel so full. God is good. Life is good.
It is all so good.
Joshua Tree National Park, California
The crown of a yucca plant against a granite outcropping. Note the mass of tough fibers splitting off from its leaves. The native American tribes used these fibers for pretty much everything for which you can imagine using fiber. Sandals, cloth, belts, baskets, ropes, and mats were all woven from yucca fiber.

Pretty straight shot of the grasses that have now gone to seed! The fibers in the setting sun light seemed to light up with life.
