“That's the whole trouble. You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody will sneak up and write "Fuck you" right under your nose.”
I've had this idea for a while, but only decided for NOW to actually execute it. I had to try and act... nice to "Bob" today in karate. His brother was home, so it was only him in class. He got stabbed in the face. I'm so happy. =) But this was the handy work of "Ryan", another black belt. But GOD I wish it was me. I'm sounding a bit mean, aren't I?
I've never been so angry... Well, maybe I have, but I can't remember when it was. People just really piss me off in general. Not all people, but a lot. This random guy got my screen name for AIM, and started saying stupid stuff like, "my nuts itch" and things like that. He even had the nads to say, "I really wanna f*ck you". So, I replied back and was a bit snarky, but I didn't care. And then he said he wanted to fight?! Honestly, he must not know me. I told him what a real black belt was and what they did, and he didn't reply.
And other people annoy me. Like this freakin'.... *mumble* girl in karate that is promoting for black belt soon, and she has NO desire to be here!! THEN WHAT THE HELL IS SHE DOING?! We don't want people like that as black belts! The instructors like myself, Shihan and Sensei don't want to put up with people who don't want to be there and won't try. We give our time and effort to teaching them, and they don't take it?? I'm just sick and tired of people like her.
But I'm going to torture her at black belt promotional. She's the only one testing, and I'll make sure it won't be easy, and neither will Shihan. I had to work 5 years to get my Shodan, and another two to get my Nidan. She's not walking away from that promotional unscathed.
I'm sorry, I'm just extremely angry.
"Emotions run high
Can you counterweight and make you feel?
Can you hear my voice come down, down, down?
Can you take that away and do what I say?
F*ck you
This doesn't matter
Don't say this doesn't matter
No, you don't know what you mean
I'm so tired of your ways
Don't say it doesn't matter
F*ck you this doesn't matter
I'm so tired of your ways
Don't say it doesn't matter
Cause it matters
My emotion runs so high
Can you take that away to make me feel
I gave through intimidation
Cut back by the words you said, you said
And the way you said them
F*ck you
This doesn't matter
Don't say this doesn't matter
'Cause you don't know what you mean
I'm so tired of your ways
Don't say this doesn't matter
F*ck you this doesn't matter
I'm so tired of your ways
Don't say it doesn't matter
Cause it matters, to me
Well it matters.''

Even though these are weapons of another era, they can still help you protect what you have saved--unless you want to give it to the unemployed when they come to your town.

Ignorant people voted in the Repukelicans. Now we all have to suffer as a result. The Democrats couldn't get any change through Congress because of the stated intention of the Republicans to declare war on President Barack Obama. The racists and deluded self centered know nothings have taken over this country. We can look forward to Business as Usual in Washington and in the Corporate world. Big Oil and Finance paid for the "victory" of the Repukes and now we will be paying for tax cuts for the rich for the next few decades.
The attempts by President Barack Obama and other Democrats to communicate what the aims of the Republican party are fell on deaf ears this past week. There is no changing the minds of the mindless. If some people would take off their earbuds in the Ipods and Iphones maybe they would realize what's really going on. But they won't. That's how Corporate America wants it to be. We are being fed a diet of Bread & Circuses to keep us down and keep us inactive in our system of Governance.
I'm excited to announce that the book that I spent 2012 writing is available for preorder. The official release date is in June. I am writing this post to share with Holy Scrap readers the inspiration for the book and a little back story not in the book. It starts like this. . .
Brand awareness crept into my awareness early. I was in grade school in the 1970s in Nassau County just a short stint from New York City when I first noticed it. Money earned in Manhattan and spent on Long Island affected consciousness in the form of designer clothing. I couldn't afford to wear designer clothes, my dad worked as an electrician for the NYC Housing Authority. But the kids I went to school with knew the brands that earned social value. A tomboy I delighted in torching forts that I made from scrap and burned in the woods behind my home. A ratty pair of jeans suited this lifestyle fine. Still I noticed the priorities of my culture and felt the pressure of growing up in a commodified society with an insatiable appetite for more.
In my twenties I wrestled with the commodified worlds illogicalities. Searching out a way to earn money I noticed that advancing my career meant overriding my common sense. Jobs made strange demands: wake before your rested, work when your mind is not clear, eat at a set time and not when you are hungry, lie for sake of the mission of the company, get the best of another, and mostly adapt.
The commodified world never taught me how the real world works. I learned how it works and how to work in it. But I knew that just outside the boundary of commerce that the skills I'd acquired to succeed in it were useless. At the proper point of fedupness I took the skills of my profession that I once used to develop the commodified world, and I turned them around. I used them to dismantle it. This is where things got really interesting and it is the start of my book.
The Good Life Lab: Radical Experiments in Hands-On Living is my story of how Mikey and I created another way to live and what we discovered along the way. It is a contemplative and practical guide book for a post-consumer life. Memoir and tutorials. I offer a view of the way that the commodified world shapes people so that we may each a way to wrestle free. The book is about invention, responsibility, creativity, economy, technology and value. It is about being an outlaw when that is the only sane thing to do. I show how we make a world: appliances, food, domestic goods, community, fuel and buildings. Perhaps the greatest of what I have to share has to do with what it is to be alive and connected to a living world. We can tune ourselves to life. If we do we have a source of wisdom. And then we can do anything.
I want to thank you for being with these years us as we blogged our way through seven years of taking chances, making mistakes, celebrating, and having a downright silly time.
The good folks at Storey Publishing filled the book with art, illustrations from 20 different illustrators and printed it with a open bind making it a work of art. If you have ants in your pants and want to get your order in now you can preorder through Amazon (ships in June). If you wish to wait until June the book will be available in all retail outlets on line and off and also through our own Holy Scrap store. And of course. . . pass it on. : )
Eileen - willing a train to arrive - stuck at Harrow on the Hill and fed up at the endless delays on the Metropolitan Line. It took another hour.
I have been in a DIY mood lately.
So since I've had all these awesome crafting supplies, I thought I would make a few more modifiers for tomorrow's steampunk inspired shoot, just to work with light. I spent 4 hours working on a ring light. I was going to post photos, but it ended up being so labor and time intensive that I couldnt even show you how to make one step by step. I made it from a photo I found this morning while doing research on lighting.
It worked okay. I mean it did what it was suppose to do. I'm not thrilled by the quality of light, but for basically free, I'm not complaining. I was fed up with the entire project and I was lamenting to Kerry about lighting mods being retarded when I got fed up and was like: Watch, I'm going to make a crappy, make shift beauty dish and it is going to spite me and be fantastic.
So I found a turkey pan, cut a sideways "H" in the middle for the flash head, taped it a bit so it wouldnt hurt me or the flash when mounting, found a opaque food container you can get with your olives from the Fresh Market, spray glued some mylar emergency blanket material in the top part and velcro'd the damn thing to the inside of the turkey pan.
Stuck it to the lumopro LP160 via velcro and took a few test shots.
like seriously? What great light.
I cant believe I spent 4 hours on something that got beat out by a half-ass 2 minute project.
sigh. PS I have a tumblr now, so you should follow me and I will follow you! I havent been able to find a layout where I can have comments, but I'm posting all my photography rants, raves and projects on there, so if you are interested in any of my DIY stuff lately, you can see them there.
