“The new Dominican Convent Church, at Cabra, Clarence Park, erected at a. cost of over £9,000, was blessed and opened on Sunday afternoon by his Grace the Archbishop of Adelaide (the Most Rev. R. W, Spence, O.F., DJ).), in the presence of a large assemblage. The Archbishop was assisted in the ceremony by the Rev. Father Gatzemeyer, and among those present were the Vicar-General (Mgr. O'Neill), Mgr. Nevin, and the Rev. Prior O'Kelly. . . The new church is in architectural style and early Christian basilica. It comprises a nave divided from side aisles by colonnades of Ionic columns, which carry lintels, in the manner of St. Maria Maggiore at Rome, built in 432 A.D. The Sanctuary is so situated that the nuns' choir faces the side of it. It is divided from the nave and from the choir by low walls of polished marble, the gift of old pupils of the Convent School. From a spacious porch at the entrance rises a staircase to a gallery situated above it. The exterior of the church is in simple Italian Romanesque, the walls being of bluestone, relieved with red brick. The roof is covered with English tiles. The nuns' choir is covered with a reinforced concrete flat roof, and there is access to it from the upper floors of the convent adjoining. The seating in the church and choir is of blackwood. A striking feature is a magnificent high altar of first quality Carrara marble, with exquisite cooled marble for the panels and columns, the work having been done by Signor Luigi Tomassi at his studio at Pietrasanta, Italy. The central niche behind the gilded tabernacle contains a crucifix, and the canopy, which rises higher than those above the other niches, terminates above with a cross. Six of the, windows have been used already with stained glass, and are arranged to alternate Dominican and secular saints. The architects for the building were Messrs. Woods, Bagot, Jory, and Lambourne Smith, the contractors, Messrs. Emmett & Son; for the marble walls and flagging and erection of the altars.” [Advertiser 30 Apr 1917]
“The community at Cabra had started with only five Sisters, but they were a large number now. . . he wished to thank especially Mrs. O'Mara, who had presented the beautiful high altar. The second altar for the sanctuary had been presented by their Vicar-General (Mgr. O'Neill), who had long been a friend to the Sisters. . . The stations of the Cross statues and marble vases for the Church were supplied by H. Credlngton & Co., of the Art Gallery, Melbourne.” [Southern Cross 4 May 1917]

“St. Mary's Dominican Convent, Franklin Street. The Day Schools, Intermediate. Select, and Free Schools attached to the above Establishment will be Re-opened on Monday, January 25. The Boarding and Day Schools connected with the new Convent at Cabra, Goodwood South, will be Opened on Monday, February 1. Boarders are requested to return on that day.” [Evening Journal 14 Jan 1886 advert]
“The opening of -the Dominican Convent, Cabra, will take place on Sunday afternoon, when His Lordship the Right Rev. C. A. Reynolds, D.D., will deliver an address.” [Advertiser 22 Jan 1886]
“On Sunday afternoon, January 24, the ceremony of opening and blessing the Dominican Convent at Cabra, near Goodwood, was performed by the Roman Catholic Bishop (Dr. .Reynolds). . . After visiting the whole of the building and the temporary chapel the company returned to the main corridor, where the Bishop delivered an appropriate address.” [Register 25 Jan 1886]

According to Longueville, 45 percent of parents miss at least one day of work every six months due to poor child care. “Currently, child care in Carbondale costs the same as tuition to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale,” Longueville said. Stockholm City Hall, with its spire featuring the golden Three Crowns, is one of the most famous silhouettes in Stockholm. It is one of the country’s leading examples of national romanticism in architecture. The City Hall was designed by architect Ragnar Östberg and is built from eight million bricks. The 106-meter tall tower has three crowns, which is the Swedish national coat of arms, at its apex. Behind the magnificent facades are offices and session halls for politicians and officials, as well as splendid assembly rooms and unique works of art. Stockholm’s municipal council meets in Rådssalen, the Council Chamber.
The great Nobel banquet is also held at City Hall. After dinner in Blå Hallen, the Blue Hall, Nobel Prize laureates, royalties, and guests dance in Gyllene Salen, the Golden Hall, with its 18 million gold mosaic tiles.
The City Hall shop features specially designed souvenirs and presents that commemorate City Hall and Stockholm. The City Hall is open to the public through guided tours only. Guided tours are held daily in Swedish and English at certain hours and can be canceled with short notice due to events. The tower is open during the summer months (May to September). During this period, you can climb up inside the tower and enjoy a fantastic view of the city.
