Alexys Cueras a freshman at SUU and Art Major travels from St. George every day to attend SUU. Alexys is living at home to save money on rent and food, but spending money on gas to travel from St. George to Cedar, which is about 52 miles one way. Alexys loves drawing faces and human figures the most but would like to learn how to draw landscapes better. Alexys has been drawing for a couple of years and is in Drawing One this semester. At the moment she carpools with three other people and is debating whether or not she should move to Cedar.

Featuring the baldacchino (18th Century renovation). Made of four Ionic columns in pavonazzetto marble supporting curved strips of marble forming open segmental pediments. These in turn support a large, ornate gilded bronze crown.
In the centre of the apse behind the altar is the tomb of Cardinal Quiñones, who died in 1540.
The apse has a 15th century fresco depicting scenes featuring the legend of the recovery of the True Cross at Jerusalem. This has traditionally been attributed to Pinturicchio, but it is now thought that it is the work of Antoniazzo Romano. From left to right, it reads: Helena discovers three crosses; she identifies the right one by means of a miraculous cure; the True Cross is venerated in triumph; its return to Jerusalem after being captured by the Persian Sassanid Empire.
Above this fresco cycle is a depiction by the same artist of Christ in Glory, seated on the clouds within a mandorla.
"This scenic area is managed to feature an undisturbed condition of the West Viginia highlands for study and enjoyment. Maintaining the natural appearance of the area is an essential management goal here.
Approximately 50 acres of the Gaudineer Scenic Area is typical of, and considered part of, the virgin red spruce type that originally occupied large portions of the highland areas of West Virginia. The composition of this impressive timber stand consists of virgin and second growth red spruce, yellow birch, beech, red maple, sugar maple and other hardwood species. Individual trees range up to 40 inches in diameter at breast height and 300 years of age.
While the remaining 90 acres has had some cutting, mainly salvage of blow-down, most of the original growth still is standing. The total wood volume of the 140 acre tract is estimated at one and a half million board feet." - Monongahela National Forest

Feature 170 is a large platform abutting the center of the east perimeter wall of Building 3. It makes up the southernmost platform of the white plastered "clean" floors. Unlike the other two "clean" platforms in this zone (F.162, F.173), Feature 170 was not cut by any burial pits. This platform was bounded on its northern and southern ends by two large posts (F.168, F.602) that were probably decorated with plaster installations.
