The lit water feature on Southbank, just outside Crown Casino.

Today, I fade into a memory. Henceforth, this place will pass the nights without me, for I have moved on into the day.

Night shift has been both a curse, and a blessing. From now on, I will lay my head down to sleep, assured that my days will start with a sunrise instead of darkness.

I'm already there.

The Missouri Southern Lions Softball team meets on the mound before their scrimmage on Sunday, September 18th, 2016. The Lions played the Missouri State Bears in Springfield, MO.

Regrettably, our schedule was too tight to allow time to see a double feature. Taken just after reliving old times by scarfing down a couple of slices at Pizza My Heart, washed down by a Sierra Nevada.

Bowood House

The Bowood Estate was bought in 1754 by the 1st Earl of Shelburne. His descendants have lived here ever since.

The house sits within 100 acres of beautifully landscaped ‘Capability’ Brown Parkland.

The house and gardens have featured in several Film and TV drama productions including Sanditon, Downton Abbey and Poldark.

Marquess of Landsdown

Since 1754 the estate has been the seat of the Earls of Shelburne, created Marquesses of Lansdowne in 1784.

Marquess of Lansdowne is a title in the Peerage of Great Britain created in 1784. It is held by the head of the Petty-Fitzmaurice family.

Terrace Gardens

The south-facing Terrace Gardens in front of the Georgian House were commissioned by the 3rd Marquess to remind him of his time in Italy.

The upper terrace, designed by Sir Robert Smirke, was completed in 1818 and the lower terrace, designed by George Kennedy, was added in 1851.

The upper and lower terraces are separated by ornamental stone balustrades decorated with urns which, during the summer months, overflow with colourful flowers.

The distinctive leaning yews were planted in 1900, and over the years they have grown towards the sun creating a unique design.

The terrace gardens provide a view of the magnificent parkland, created by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.

October 31, 2020 - Any visit to Green Lawn Cemetery requires a stop to The Pond. They have done some work since my last visit including the addition of a little waterfall as well as thinning out some of the bushes which obscure The Pond from the east. "Originally the Pond was a quarry that provided crushed gravel for the first roads in the cemetery. When this gravel was no longer needed, it was converted into a pond. In the original plan a bridge was to connect it to a second pond in section 100. But that pond was never built. Water features were an important part of the rural cemetery movement and often had a more natural aesthetic than modern water features. Today the Pond is a hotspot for birds and contributes to our inclusion in an Audubon important bird area" Previous text from a plaque located at The Pond.
