We visited a local lake that had recently re-opened and I noticed this lone feather floating along. I liked the curve of the feather and the way the ripples in the water created a different shade of blue

On my travels through the woods yesterday checking for a Barred Owl that was nowhere in sight but it had left a gift. A delicate downy soft feather. It is up probably a good 15ft out of reach... I spend the next 30 minutes or so picking sticks off the forest floor and hurling them at the branch trying to dislodge this darn feather, cursing myself for having such poor throwing skills!! After many attempts I finally managed to hone my aim and hit the offending branch that is holding my feather hostage! It bounces up and down and for moment looked as if it was going to fall... no. I am looking around for my next stick to throw muttering curses under my breath when I look up I see a man and woman who wandered in looking for an Owl and thinking they found a crazy person instead. I compose myself & explain what is going on. So he grabs a couple of sticks and takes his best crack, no dice.... I thank him for his efforts and they go on searching for an Owl. After a few more unsuccessful tries I finally concede defeat. I take a photo & leave that area, minutes later I hear someone behind me, it is the man and woman again. The woman smiles at me and slowly pulls her hand from behind her back holding up the Feather and gives it to me!! I don't know how they managed to get it but I just wanted to hug the both of them! Really made my day with their act of kindness. I will try and pay it forward. ❤

"Feathers as fashion accessories peaked during the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries. The demand for feather adornments gave rise to milliners who created extravagant hats. Flappers of the Jazz Age (1920s) wore dramatic feather boas across their shoulders."

I was wandering around a nature refuge and found this swan feather. I decided to keep it as a souvenir.

Friendship of a Peacock and an Elephant – A True Story

Once upon a time a Blue Peacock and Ludwig, a young Indian Elephant boy have been best friends. Unfortunately, Ludwig had lost his two little sisters and no companion to play with. His mum and aunts loved him dearly, but were not the right playmates for young Ludwig. The Peacock was seen quite often in the elephants’enclosure and Ludwig was very attracted to him and the Peacock to Ludwig. Very often these two friends were playing ‘Hide and Seek’ or ‘Catch Me if You Can’ It was so funny when the little elephant was running behind the peacock which was always faster. They both had good and happy times together until the young elephant bull had to leave Zoo Munich to find other friends of his kind and age in Heidelberg. The peacock is still to be seen there …. looking for his best friend ….

The light is super harsh (midday) but the sun was a welcome sight to us as were these elegant swans. So graceful and beautiful to watch!

Thank you all very much for your visits and comments.

The day after Christmas, my friend Rob (riverboy777) and I made plans to go out waterfall hunting, along with his daughter and her friend. We ended up going to Feather Falls near Oroville, after getting stopped by snow on our way to our initial destination, Seven Falls. It was a great hike. Feather Falls is a most spectacular 400 ft. high waterfall.

Zoom shot as i didnt want to disturb the swan on its nest.

A feather was stuck to its beak.

The chickens at Wright-Locke Farm know me well, and expect treats when I'm around. Above, Mr. Tuxedopants is leading the hens behind me as I make my way to the feed bin.

.... while I was walking in a wild garden in West Wales (Ceredigion) a bird dropped this feather which landed right in front of my foot. I thought I have to take a picture of it ....I regard this as a gift from nature.

Latest upcoming challenge already passed by and i didn`t have a image for that one. This morning i woke up and looked through out my window, and just realized that the theme was hanging there all the time. What you see is a dreamcatcher. The intention of this mojo is to keep all bad influences out of your dreams while you sleep. So here we go...my share for this weeks theme called feathers.

Have a great smileful weekend :)

11/100x The 2025 Edition: in the natural world

This, my fine flickr friends, is what the inside of my head has looked like for the last week - the feathered canyons and dark clouds (to quote Joni Mitchell)of a summer cold descended upon me . No photos, no inclinations even, no uploads and no likes, no comments and finally this evening I rushed down to the beach to get some shots and it was overcast and no waves. I looked upwards and saw these great summer storm clouds with the sun peeking out behind for just a few minutes - a perfect visual metaphor for my week ;)
