I observed this parent Grebe feed feathers to the newly hatched chick. This seems to be a common practice among Grebes. I just love watching wild birds.

This is a close-up photo of the beautiful feathers on a seagull.

Feather shot in front of a blue washing powder jug!

A dusky thrush seemed to be coping with the sub-zero temperatures better than me, on a freezing winter's early morning in Sapporo, Hokkaido, (Japan's most northern island).

With its beautiful rufous colours and patterned plumage, it was all fluffed up to ward off the frost and freeze.

These birds breed eastwards from central Siberia to Kamchatka and then winter in Japan, South China and Myanmar. Where I am sure they find it 'warmer' than it would be in Siberia!

CC Most Versatile - EV Settings

Shot with an EV of -2/3 to keep the white from blowing out. In post I balanced the background exposure so it wasn't so dark. There was a breeze so I increased the shutter speed to stop any movement. I found this beautiful feather on the ground but moved it to different locations. This is in the crook of a trailing grapevine in sunlight at the back. I looked online a bit to try to identify the bird. I think it's possibly from a dove or pigeon. Or maybe a duck. : )

Have a great day folks ;0)

Happy LCoF

Common in varied wooded and forested habitats, parks, gardens, farmland with hedges and scattered trees. Forms flocks in winter; often visits garden feeders. Handsome, brightly colored male is distinctive, with bluish cowl, pink face and breast, black-and-white wing pattern (colors muted in winter). Female much drabber but shares male pattern; especially note the complex wing pattern. Both sexes have white outer tail feathers, often striking in flight such as when flushed. (eBird)

We encountered chaffinchs (another introduced species) over much of the country, but did not stop to photograph them too often since our focus was on native birds. This female, though, was in a parking area so I took advantage of the opportunity.

Roadrunner Birding Tours.

my photo: I was very struck by this feather exposed to the fury of a relentless wind: the continuous gusts shook it violently, in different ways, making it take a thousand forms. It was inexorably prey to this element, which dominated it without pity .... but, despite this, the small feather, which seemed so fragile, remained attached to the branch on which it had fallen, resisting in a truly heroic way. So ....! now, we too are fragile as a feather and we are exposed to a violent "black" wind, but we must resist!

This kaleidosopic image was created from a macro feather photo.
