A Chicago & North Western sandwich winds through Feather River Canyon back in 1994. Those APL stack trains did look good.
Bird banding involves fitting bands with unique numbers onto the legs of wild birds. Once banded, the lives of individual birds can be tracked through time.
I was trying to create a shot of three feathers floating gracefully downward in the wind. But then I saw three fish swimming in green waters. And now that's all I see.
Took a very short walk on a cool, very breezy winter morning with temps just below freezing. A few feathers trapped in the partially thin icy coating on the lake. Taken looking down from the top of a wall along the lake shore. Can't pass up feathers. :-)
The ice won't last long with temps rising to around 60°F today and high 60°s F tomorrow before returning to more normal temps after. Sorry for so many photos, haven't been out much. Was hoping to make it to the wildlife refuge when 400,000 snow geese and 487 bald eagles were there but couldn't work it out. :(
Just an external flash experiment - I've been using it as background on my laptop and finally decided to just go ahead and post it here.

For the Macro Mondays group, on the subject of 'Fill The Frame', this is not what I was initially going to do, but test shots of that looked very drab...
It appears that there's a small gap in this, but there is another feather under there - it's just the flash does not seem to have penetrated!
This little one has a feather ruffle just below his feet....sort of a ballerina tutu effect. :0)

A cropped version of a Peacocks feathers. They have an interesting pattern within the layers of feathers. Taken at the Wagga Wagga Zoo in NSW 22/8/2009.
Carson Springs Wildlife Sanctuary in Gainesville Florida has peacocks wandering through the parking lot. This is a rare white peacock.

Feather Droplets
so I tried again with the droplets on the feather, I added glycerin to the water and instead of spraying I placed the droplets as much as possible using a syringe.
This female Hairy Woodpecker had one or more brown feathers that can be seen here at the base of her back. I assume they're wing feathers, but this was the only pose I saw her in, so I can't be sure.
Caught this one displaying it's shawl of feathers, I never get tired of capturing their different shapes but have still got a lot of honing to do on my technique, and need to study the way the birds react and fly before I am able to fill the frame with a really sharp shot, I'll certainly have fun trying though ò¿ò

My parents were down visiting last week. You can see my father, Border Mac, below. The first shot is him in action and the other is him, the day before in Brighton, reviewing the pictures he'd just taken. I think he got some good ones - hopefully he'll post them soon!
