Almost ready.

Another pinhole from my recent New York City visit that I was happy with. If I remember correctly, Fearless Girl was located in front of the Bull of Wall Street the last time I was in New York. Now she is in a standoff in front of the New York Stock Exchange. One nice thing about visiting New York in the winter is that the crowds are far thinner, even in tourist hotspots such as this. But even in February there were still knots of people. Thankfully when your pinhole exposures are a minute or so long the occasional selfie seekers are not an issue. Anyhow, I thought this a fun one.

The Heart is probably the loudest body part. Or the craziest. Or the most fearless. Not sure. But if the Brain produces 12 closely-written pages with well-argumented reasons why “This is a really bad idea, you know?”, the Heart just goes “Yeah, whatever… maybe later man. I’m gonna go and fall madly in love with this thing over here now”. And sure, sooner or later the Brain gets to say “Hah! Told you so!”, but… I’ve noticed that life has (approx.) 3 love-stages:

1: Before you have been hurt.

2: After you’ve been hurt, when you’re cautious and hesitant, when every stirring of the Heart is followed by a frightened “There’s a reason not to want this!”-shout from the Brain. When “No” is the default-answer to desire.

3: When you’re experienced enough to know that everything in life is doomed in one way or another, because even life ends one day, and that the scars you get along the way are not signs of pain or failure, but proof of a life lived to the fullest. That the opposite of pleasure isn’t pain, but fear and apathy. And that bittersweet memories are soooo much better than no memories at all.

I have a love hate relationship with self-portraits. On the one hand it is challenging and sometimes frustrating to get the focus, composition, and pose right. But on the other hand, taking a self portrait allows me to create in a quiet way all on my own. I don't have to worry about failing or looking silly. I can just create.

This guy was not in the least bit disturbed by me as I stood within a few feet of him. He waited for me to take my close then lifted off to glide across the water.

We showed up that morning hoping to get the feed shot, but she already finished eating. She was content and full as she sat stationary atop this log. We must have spent 45 plus minutes here taking photos! Click image for slightly better clarity.

+4 in comments. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Inspirational credit goes to Savannah. I don't have her awesome red sweater and amazing long hair, though. For some reason this amazing song by the incomparable Cyndi Lauper came to mind while I was doing this. Listen. Be amazed. I dare you not to get tears in your eyes!

There's something that I never told

When I find myself slipping off of my pedestal

I'm a fierce believer afraid to fall.

But if I was fearless ...

Could I be your reckless friend

And if I was helpless ...

Could you be the one comes rushing in.

Sometimes I'm afraid of the dark

I can't find the light in my heart

I can see my hand pushing away

Hard as I can

But if I was fearless ...

Could I be your wreckless friend

And if I was helpless ...

Could be the one comes rushing in.

2020 was the year of the pandemic. The pubs, theatres and museums closed. We started to wear masks and we were not allowed to travel. Too many people got seriously ill or died. This photo encapsulates 2020 for me: Edinburgh on a beautiful day, empty streets, the tourist shops closed and yet full of exuberance.

Onward, ever striving onward, proudly on our brooms we fly,

Straight and true above the treetops, shadows on the moonlit sky.

Fearless witches, never flinching through the dark and dismal nights,

Ghouls and ghosts and nightmare monsters run away in fright.

Went for fish and chips in Youghal Harbor today and spotted this lovely fishing boat tied up against the sea wall. It was a dull and overcast day muting the colours slightly, but I liked the overall mood.

Fearless Girl is a bronze sculpture of a defiant girl by Kristen Visbal. Installed on the Bowling Green, in Manhattan's Financial District, in the U.S. state of New York In 2017, State Street Global Advisors (in a campaign developed by McCann New York installed the statue across from Charging Bull, another bronze, on the eve of International Women's Day (March 8). Fearless Girl is meant to "send a message" about workplace gender diversity and encourage companies to recruit women to their boards. The sculpture's installation is temporary; it is expected to stay in place at least several weeks. It was initially given a New York City Hall permit for one week, later extended to 30 days.
