Like most owls, the barn owl is nocturnal, relying on its acute sense of hearing when hunting in complete darkness. It often becomes active shortly before dusk and can sometimes be seen during the day when relocating from one roosting site to another. In Britain, on various Pacific Islands and perhaps elsewhere, it sometimes hunts by day. This practice may depend on whether the owl is mobbed by other birds if it emerges in daylight. However, in Britain, some birds continue to hunt by day even when mobbed by such birds as magpies, rooks and black-headed gulls, such diurnal activity possibly occurring when the previous night has been wet making hunting difficult. By contrast, in southern Europe and the tropics, the birds seem to be almost exclusively nocturnal, with the few birds that hunt by day being severely mobbed.

Barn owls are not particularly territorial but have a home range inside which they forage. For males in Scotland this has a radius of about 1 km (0.6 mi) from the nest site and an average size of about 300 hectares. Female home ranges largely coincide with that of their mates. Outside the breeding season, males and females usually roost separately, each one having about three favored sites in which to conceal themselves by day, and which are also visited for short periods during the night. Roosting sites include holes in trees, fissures in cliffs, disused buildings, chimneys and haysheds and are often small in comparison to nesting sites. As the breeding season approaches, the birds move back to the vicinity of the chosen nest to roost.

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST - ALONE!

12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)

16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)

1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)

7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:1-13)

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!

So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Cistus,

Jara or steppe are the common names of various plants, most of the genus Cistus, and some of other genera, such as Halimium. They are usually part, sometimes important, of the Mediterranean garrigas, and some species behave as pioneers in the recovery of degraded soils. They are pyrophytes, their germination is favored by fire, and recurrent fires help their permanence by eliminating competition from other plants that would eventually displace them from biotopes. Some species, such as C ladanifer or C laurifolius are resinous, which favors burning although they are green.

They are always evergreen, shrubby, woody plants. The flowers are regular, hermaphroditic and with five large, often wrinkled petals that easily fall from the flower. Its numerous stamens produce a large amount of pollen, which attracts many insects, such as bees that produce honey from jara. Its fruits are capsules formed by 5 or 10 carpels, which open at maturity in 5 or 10 cavities with numerous seeds. The wood of Cistus ladanifer, being very hard, is used in the manufacture of small tools or parts that are going to suffer great friction, and it is also excellent as firewood.

La madera de Cistus ladanifer, por ser durísima se usa en la fabricación de pequeñas herramientas o piezas que vayan a sufrir gran rozamiento, y es también excelente como leña.

Also known as the Brazilian Pygmy-Owl, on account of it being almost endemic to that country, the Least Pygmy-Owl occurs from northern Bahia state south to at least Paraná state, and has been recorded in neighbouring Paraguay, as well as being speculated to be present in adjacent northeastern Argentina. This species formerly comprised part of a much wider species complex that also includes Tamaulipas Pygmy-Owl (Glaucidium sanchezi), Colima Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium palmarum), and Central American Pygmy-Owl (Glaucidium griseiceps), as well as the recently described Subtropical Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium parkeri). However, in terms of identification, it overlaps geographically only with the near-ubiquitous Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl (Glaucidium brasilianum), which species has a quite different voice, is larger, with a streaked (not spotted) crown, and a more barred tail. Least Pygmy-Owl is also never found in second growth or the more open country frequently favored by the Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl. Instead, it favours evergreen Atlantic Forest and its edges, and is found at elevations up to about 1000 m. Like other pygmy-owls, this species is partially diurnal and is easily attracted using a whistled imitation of hollow-sounding, double- or treble-noted song. Despite being relatively abundant, currently very little is known of the Least Pygmy-Owl’s ecology. It is very small - 14–15 cm; c. 50 g - almost a house sparrow size.

Town of Glen, New York. In a few years scenes such as this will no longer exist. Solar farms will pixelate the landscape. Instead of golden fields of corn and heard of cows, we will see black panels and aluminum frames populating pristine farmland. Dots of trees will be planted around their perimeter, as an admission of their hideousness, attempting to hide the ugliness as well. Down the road from this farm they are building another massive solar farm, simply ugly and ill-favored destruction of a beautiful valley. As a photographer I hate solar farms. As a person I hate it more. And I believe the only saving grace for young landscape photographers coming up the ranks is that AI software will probably be able to eliminate the ugliness of these solar farms, and replace with, AI imagined farmland of what once was. Bluebird count for GBBC: 2

The eastern bluebird (Sialia sialis) is a small thrush found in open woodlands, farmlands, and orchards. It is the state bird of Missouri[2] and New York.

This species measures 16–21 cm (6.3–8.3 in) long, spans 25–32 cm (9.8–12.6 in) across the wings, and weighs 27–34 g (0.95–1.20 oz).[3][4] Eastern bluebirds are found east of the Rockies, southern Canada to the Gulf states, and southeastern Arizona to Nicaragua. The increase in trees throughout the Great Plains during the past century due to fire suppression and tree planting facilitated the western range expansion of the eastern bluebird[5] as well as range expansions of many other species of birds.

About two-thirds of the diet of an adult consists of insects and other invertebrates. The remainder of the bird's diet is made up of wild fruits or berries. Favored insect foods include grasshoppers, crickets, katydids, and beetles. Other food items include earthworms, spiders, millipedes, centipedes, sow bugs, and snails.

I personally have to add nuts to the diet. The bluebirds in my yard love peanuts.

It’s good to go for a hike, it sorts one’s thoughts out and you can never go wrong getting out into nature. A local trail I’ve been taking the last couple of days revealed to me a few birds I’ve been wanting to photograph. So, this morning I set out to do just that. Being familiar with the call of the bird I was hoping to find, helped to locate the general area it was frequenting. I spent a little bit of time observing which perches seemed to be its favored places to sit and call from. Once I figured it out, I slowly moved in closer to where I might be able to get a good shot, should it choose to come back. I checked my backgrounds, making sure there wouldn’t be too many distracting elements, and then I waited quietly and as motionless as I could. Eventually, the little Lazuli Bunting that I was hoping for, came in and sat for me, calling, and doing its thing. A little bit of movement from me and it would switch perches, looking at me from time to time and wondering, I suppose, if I were a threat or not. I did my best to be nonthreatening and just capture images.

A breeze began to blow, and a little bit of drizzle was starting to fall, things were getting a bit damp. After capturing a few images, I thought I’d be happy with, I thanked the little bird for giving me its time and moved on home. The entire outing took possibly 2 hours, but the results in my overall mood for the day were well worth the investment. You can never go wrong getting out into nature.

Noted for being extremely attractive but exceptionally shy this smallest member of the merganser family is common throughout much of eastern Canada and the U.S. The drakes' flashy headgear gets lots of attention from bird watchers as well as the females.

During the breeding season their favored habitat is woodland ponds, marshes or slow moving rivers and streams.

Being cavity nesters they usually nest in trees but will accept man-made nesting boxes as long as they are close to water where a nest will contain a clutch of anywhere from 6 - 15 eggs.

This drake is taking to the air in pursuit of a hen that might possibly be a potential mate.

Checked ATCS after work and nothing happening on CN's Proctor Hill. Once I got down to Duluth, this limestone train was pulling out of Missabe Jct. and had the line up to Proctor, so I backtracked halfway up the hill for a shot with fall color. Fog and clouds were rolling in off Lake Superior, so I was clouded out there and at the Thompson Hill rest area. The last chance to get the clean cowl was at Spirit Mountain, and the train was just able to escape the marine layer for some sun here at Boundary Avenue.

Even with the 2100-series Dash 8s reassigned back to the T-Birds, CN has still favored Dash 8s on the Minntac limestone runs. Was the first time in a few years I was able to get a cowl leading on Proctor Hill, so I was glad I finally found some sun.

CN R922 (1400 PRS) Dash 8 trio was CN 2449, CN 2038, and 2027 on the evening of Oct. 3, 2016.

This member of the "Brushfoot" family of butterflies is aptly named after the Appalachian Mountains located in eastern U.S.

Their favored habitat is wet, wooded or brushy swamps with a good supply of sedge and giant sedge grasses. This is one species that can be commonly found in drier parts of wooded areas where the males will patrol and perch in openings that are well sunlit. In the north they produce only one generation per year between July and September.

They can be a rare species in certain areas but their numbers world wide are considered secure.

This (probably male) has found a little sunlit area to watch for females.

There's a wonderful 'cheese farm' on the northside of Het Gein, a small river to the south of Amsterdam. I like to go out there for the best cheese - of course! - in the world. So this morning the glum and chilly weather had me ambling through the green pastures. On my way Mother and Son; she providing him with a late breakfast. I think they're Piemontese, a cow much favored in these parts.

If you look carefully you'll be able to see some of the calf's still golden hair. They're born golden-blond and become gray-white like their mothers after about four months.

Kinuseo Falls is in remote Monkman Park, in northeastern British Columbia. The park is named for Alex Monkman, who spearheaded a project to build a highway in the lowest elevation mountain pass through the Canadian Rockies.

The initial rough cut of a road through the pass was nearly completed by the late 1930's but was postponed when WWII broke out. The trail was complete except for one challenging 28 km section and in fact, one symbolic shipment of grain was transported from Alberta through British Columbia using this route.

After the war, the British Columbia government actually prohibited any further work on the route and gave citizens of Fort St John and Dawson Creek the right to vote on whether the Monkman Pass or the Pine Pass would be the route through the Rockies. The Pine Pass route would result in a highway through their towns, so of course that pass was favored. The Monkman Pass became a footnote of historical interest.

Today, you can get to Monkman Park and Kinuseo Falls via a (poorly) maintained Murray River forestry road. Upstream of Kinuseo Falls, you can hike the Monkman Pass Memorial Trail, a hiking route for advanced back country enthusiasts.

This view of Kinuseo Falls is reached by a short and easy trail through the forest with the trailhead near the top of the falls. The trail has not been maintained for a couple of years though and is lightly travelled, so you will be dealing with a lot of new growth and deadfall.

By the way, Kinuseo Falls was a location featured in the recent movie Seventh Son.

Yellowstone National Park in Winter

Wyoming

USA

Three otters were photographed while playing along the banks of a river in the park. It had been snowing earlier in the day. The temperature was between 28 to 34 degrees.

The North American river otter (Lontra canadensis), also known as the northern river otter or the common otter, is a semiaquatic mammal endemic to the North American continent found in and along its waterways and coasts. The river otter is protected and insulated by a thick, water-repellent coat of fur.

The river otter, a member of the subfamily Lutrinae in the weasel family (Mustelidae), is equally versatile in the water and on land. It establishes a burrow close to the water's edge in river, lake, swamp, coastal shoreline, tidal flat, or estuary ecosystems.

North American river otters, like most predators, prey upon the most readily accessible species. Fish is a favored food among the otters, but they also consume various amphibians (such as salamanders and frogs), freshwater clams, mussels, snails, small turtles and crayfish.

The range of the North American river otter has been significantly reduced by habitat loss, beginning with the European colonization of North America. In some regions, though, their population is controlled to allow the trapping and harvesting of otters for their pelts. River otters are very susceptible to the effects of environmental pollution, which is a likely factor in the continued decline of their numbers. Several reintroduction projects have been initiated to help stabilize the reduction in the overall population. – Wikipedia

This species resides in coniferous forests feeding on the cones because their bills are adapted for harvesting the seeds buried within the cones with the mandibles crossed enabling them to pry the scales apart so they can lap up the seed with their tongues. Their preference is forests of red and white pine but will also accept stands of other pines, spruce and fir.

When they find a bumper crop of cones and decide they are going to establish a breeding territory the female builds a nest and lays 3 or 4 eggs that she incubates for 12 - 18 days. Their favored food is seeds from cones but they will also eat buds, deciduous tree seeds, occasionally insects and is often seen licking at road salt and soils high in minerals.

This pair of males belong to a rather large flock that are wintering currently in Algonquin Provincial Park.

A small forest-dwelling songbird endemic to the South Island of New Zealand. Distinctive yellow head and yellowish to white underparts. Tends to stay high in the canopy, favoring tall native forest. Often encountered moving in small noisy family flocks, uttering loud staccato chattering calls and trills. Male has a musical canary-like song. Female gives a distinctive buzzing call. Adults can be seen feeding far larger Long-tailed Koel chicks, as this species is a favored host of that nest parasite. Easily distinguished from similarly-colored Yellowhammer by very different habitat use: Yellowhammer favors open farmland and scrub rather than mature forest. (eBird)

-------------------

High up in the canopy, in the darkest part of the forest, was this large family flock of Yellowheads. They sang and called to each other, moved incessantly and were fun to watch but photographing them was a challenge. Finally, I got a reasonable photo to commemorate the one and only time I ever saw this pretty little bird.

Despite having a larger range than the red ruffed lemur, it has a much smaller population that is spread out, living in lower population densities and reproductively isolated. It also has less coverage and protection in large national parks than the red ruffed lemur.

Three subspecies of black-and-white ruffed lemur have been recognized since the red ruffed lemur was elevated to species status in 2001.

They are arboreal, spending most of their time in the high canopy of the seasonal rainforests on the eastern side of the island. They are also diurnal, active exclusively in daylight hours.

Their diet consists mainly of fruit, although nectar and flowers are also favored, followed by leaves and some seeds. – Wikipedia

is a large shorebird in the family Scolopacidae. It is a relatively large and robust sandpiper and is the largest of the species called "shanks". Willets are flexible in their feeding habits and hunt by walking steadily and pecking prey from the substrate, although they also probe into the mud or silt with their sensitive bill and may actively stalk larger prey in shallow water. A favored prey on the coasts is small fiddler crabs as well as mole crabs, worms, clams and other invertebrates.

The red-shouldered hawk (Buteo lineatus) is a medium-sized hawk. Its breeding range spans eastern North America and along the coast of California and northern to northeastern-central Mexico. Red-shouldered hawks are permanent residents throughout most of their range.

Red-shouldered hawks are forest raptors. In the east, they live in bottomland hardwood stands, flooded deciduous swamps, and upland mixed deciduous–conifer forests. They tend to live in stands with an open subcanopy, which makes hunting easier.

Red-shouldered hawks search for prey while perched on a treetop or soaring over woodlands. When they sight prey, they kill it by dropping directly onto it from the air. They may cache food near their nest for later consumption. When in clearings, they sometimes fly low to surprise prey. Red-shouldered hawks have very sharp vision and reasonably good hearing.

Small mammals are typically the most important prey, especially rodents. Voles, gophers, mice, moles and chipmunks may locally be favored based on abundance. Other prey can include amphibians, reptiles (especially small snakes), birds, fish, and large insects. – Wikipedia

Rühstädt is the village with the most storks in Germany. In some years up to 40 pairs of storks breed there; there are also numerous individual storks.

As early as the 1970s, nesting aids were used to support the natural abundance of storks, which is favored by the richly equipped feeding grounds on the Elbe and Havel meadows. Sometimes up to five stork nests can be seen on a roof.

In 1996 Rühstädt was awarded the title “European Stork Village” by the European Natural Heritage Foundation. In the same year as many as 44 pairs of storks nested here. Information boards have been put up for each nest, informing about when the individual storks have arrived from their winter quarters or have then flown off again, as well as how many offspring have been raised in each case. The community laid most of the overland power lines underground to reduce the risk to the storks. Regular mowing of the meadows provides enough food for small animals, insects and earthworms.

The state of Brandenburg built a visitor center made of the typical regional red brick on the outskirts near the Elbe. The center is operated by the Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU), which depicts a stork in its coat of arms, and the Brandenburg nature reserve. In addition to the exhibitions, visitors can also observe the brood care and territorial behavior of the storks up close with the help of cameras in spring and summer.

Nigritella rhellicani var rosea (Orchidaceae) 189 23

Nigritella rhellicani var rosea is a small plant in the Orchidaceae family.

Nigritella rhellicani is indisputably the most widespread and frequently encountered of the species currently comprising the Nigritella nigra group.

Its range takes it from the western Alps, eastwards to the Carpathians and although unconfirmed, probably into Russia. It can be abundant in its favored locations, where it grows in short alpine turf as low as 1000 meters up to a recently recorded altitude of over 3000 meters.

Nigritella rhellicani var rosea can be encountered anywhere within the previously outlined range of the type species but is however extremely rare.

Since the current temperatures in Central Europe are well above the 30 degree mark, it is worth taking a look back at winter 2021/22. HEAT afternoon THUNDERSTORMS

16-June-2019: on the Karst Region, generally, after a sunny and very hot morning, the first clouds (Cumulus humilis and mediocris into Cumulus congestus) form around 10AM Central European Time, while the spark that ignites the first, fundamental, thundery heat (Cumulonimbus), takes place between 12AM and 1PM CET; the ingredients for the formation of this type of local storms, in these parts, are always the same: (1) rapid solar heating of the soil and air layers above it, and, from mid morning, (2) very humid breezes coming from the Gulf of Trieste (Italy) and, for the more eastern areas, also from the Kvarner (Rijeka, Croatia).

The thermodynamic ascension of the summer sun overheated air, whose condensation into towering stormy clouds is widely favored by maritime humidity added, is necessary, although not sufficient, in producing fuel for these "internal combustion engines".

In general, after the first thunderheat, many more are formed and, in a important part, this happens thanks to the first one: the cold part of the thunderstorm, where there are precipitations and cool descending currents (Downdraft), becomes seed for the "burst" of other storms in the vicinity, with a chain effect.

This happens because the downdraft cool air, when it reaches the ground, turns into a horizontal wind, fresh and very humid, which with its rabid gusts moves away from the original storm in many directions, reaching areas still sunny, then causing the immediate, forced, rising of the hot air present (lighter than the fresh one arrived) condensing into new clouds with vertical development, base for further heat thunderstorms, at least until the sun warms the soil.

A small endemic songbird found only on the North Island of New Zealand. Note distinctive whitish head and underparts. Females and juveniles have cinnamon tinge to crown and nape. Often encountered in small feeding flocks that move quickly and loudly through the canopy with harsh chattering calls, trills, and slurs. Favors tall native forest and shrubs. Although a reluctant flier, the species is agile and acrobatic as it forages for insects, often hanging upside down. Male has a clear canary-like song. Adults can be seen feeding far larger Long-tailed Koel chicks, as this species is a favored host of that nest parasite. (eBird)

Like their cousins, the Yellowheads, these cute little birds prefer forest canopy. This one was part of a small flock actively feeding through the trees and paused briefly to take a look at us.

Via Giulia is a street in the historic centre of Rome, Italy, mostly in rione Regola, although its northern part belongs to rione Ponte. It was one of the first important urban planning projects in Renaissance Rome.

History

The Via Giulia was designed circa 1508 by Pope Julius II but the original plan was only partially carried out. This was the first attempt since Antiquity to pierce a new thoroughfare through the heart of Rome and a very early example of urban renewal. Via Giulia runs from the Ponte Sisto to the church of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini, following the tight curve of the Tiber. In the 16th-century, housing facing the street was favored by borghesi, and specially by the Florentine community in Rome. Today its modest structures provide one of Rome's elite shopping streets, noted for its antique shops.

The Via Giulia runs in a straight line for a full kilometer, an innovation easily taken for granted today. The via was one aspect of Julius' wide-reaching program for the refurbishment of a resurgent Rome and Papal state. His financial reforms, undertaken from the first year of his pontificate, aimed to free the Papacy from its dependence on the great Roman families such as the Orsini and Colonna, and instead relying on Tuscan bankers, notably to Agostino Chigi, member of a banking family of Siena. A part of Julius' overall plan was the reorganization of the medieval city of Rome, whose unrealized assets were becoming apparent as the renewed city grew in economic importance, recovering from the sleepy backwater it had become during the fourteenth century.

The new street was intended as an artery connecting all the governmental institutions, which were crowded in the single section: the Palazzo della Cancelleria, being completed at that very moment, the papal mint and the projected Palazzo dei Tribunali.

The laying-out of the street was placed in the hands of Donato Bramante, who was in charge of the works at the new Basilica of Saint Peter, taking shape on the other side of the river. Vasari states, "The pope was determined to place in Strada Giulia, which was under Bramante's direction, all the offices and administrative seats of power of Rome in one place, for the convenience of those who had business to do there, having been until then constantly much inconvenienced.

At the same time the new artery linked the river port of the Ripa Grande with the new Via della Lungara, and by the Via Giulia to the Ponte Sisto, in order to bring merchandise securely and conveniently to the heart of the marketing and banking zone.

Work was halted on Bramante's majestic Palazzo dei Tribunali, which was to have assembled under one roof all the judicature of Rome. It remained half-built for a generation, to the regret of artists like Vasari. With this an essential element in Julius' urbanistic project was lost.

The street developed as a line of modest houses with gardens behind them, built for private owners or confraternities, sometimes on speculation, broken by more ambitious palazzi. This is the urban context of the "houses of Raphael", with their ground floor street-front shops.

The grand palazzi turned their backs to Via Giulia. In the 1540s Michelangelo had a plan for the constricted gardens of Palazzo Farnese to be connected by a bridge to the Farnese villa in Trastevere on the right bank, Villa Farnesina. The elegant arch still spanning Via Giulia belongs to this other grand unrealized scheme.

This pullout on the east side (Cody side) of the long tunnel on the Yellowstone Highway in Shoshone Canyon west of Cody Wyoming is for rock climbers. They come to climb the inner canyon walls which are made up of metamorphic and Igneous rocks that date to around 2.6 billion years ago. Geologist call this time period during the Precambrian the Archean Eon. These rocks represent a time when Wyoming was a separate microcontinent called the Wyoming Craton which existed 500 million years before the North American Continent formed. The layered gneissic complex in Shoshone Canyon consists of hornblende mica schist cut by granodiorite and granite pegmatites. These crystalline rocks are favored by climbers.
