Wallace Creek swings 430 feet northwest as the creekbed issues from the Panorama Hills before finding its historic outlet. Geology outpaces rainfall in the dry Carrizo Plain and the Z shape is the result of 3,700 years of movement on the San Andreas Fault. In 1857 up to 30 feet of offset was recorded in the Great Earthquake. The group was part of a Cuesta College mini-course led by Steve Schubert.

Housing activists and concerned citizens organized by City Life/Vida Urbana rallied at Our Lady Guild House (OLGH), a rooming house in the Fenway.
OLGH is owned by an order of Catholic nuns called Daughters of Mary of the Immaculate Conception. It was originally part of the order's mission to create homes for single women, especially mature women. About 5 years ago, the mission changed. Older women were told they had to get out.
In the last year, no-fault evictions began and move-out deadlines were given. The OLGH management company, Marc Roos Realty, started advertising on their web site that they only want to rent to women age 18 to 50 years old. In response to the evictions and the apparently clear age discrimination, residents are organized and defending themselves in court.
Two of the women face forcible removal in the first week of September. Another is in the middle of an eviction case. Five or more women expect a court summons at any moment. City Life/Vida Urbana and Fenway CDC are pledging resistance.

Its official name is Mount John Laurie, but nobody really calls it that. The mountain itself is a result of the McConnell fault, which placed the much older (Cambrian aged) Eldon formation on top of the much younger (Cretaceous aged) Belly River formation. You can see the thrust fault at the base of the cliff, like along the tree line.
The river in the foreground is the Bow River.
The valleys and mountain ridges here are caused by rotational block faulting. Huge blocks of the Earth's crust tip like seesaws; the east side going down to form the valley while the west side goes up forming a mountain range. Where two of these tipping blocks meet side by side, a fault is formed between them with the rising side of one shearing past the descending side of the other. Erosion wears down the mountain and deposits sediments in the valley, yet the faulting drops the valley faster than the sediments can fill it, thus creating this basin below sea level. Over millions of years, more than 9,000 feet of sand, silt, gravel and salt filled the valley, yet geologic forces are still at work. The fault scarp visible in this photo was created by a massive earthquake about 2,000 years ago that dropped Death Valley several feet. Another such event will lower the valley even farther below sea level.

The spili fault is located on the beautiful island of Crete. Due to the active subduction of the African continent, Crete is home to a vast amount of earthquakes. The spili fault is a normal fault, with at least two slickenline directions.

Beautiful wooded valleys can be seen along the Aspy fault on the north western section of the Cabot Trail.
Yesterday, we drove into Ventura to vagabond Restaurant to get chicken-fried steak and eggs for Alicia. It was a beautiful day for a drive down to the coast. It was all Scholmo's fault. He used twitter to plant the suggestion in our weak little minds :)
Normal fault reactivated as Thrust in the proterozoic Sergipean fold Belt, northeastern Brasil. The bottom lithology is metaconglomerate, the middle is stromatolitic bioconstruction and the cap is laminares metacarbonate. This set serms an evolutivos from rift to passÃvel marginal and finally am active margin.
Here the mine tunnel crossed a fault in the rock. The diagonal line of the fault can be seen in the wall on the left separating the grayish rock above from the brown rock below. The rock above the fault is called the "hanging wall" and the rock below the fault is called the "foot wall." This is a "normal fault" meaning that the rock of the hanging wall slid down along the fault in relation to the rock of the foot wall. Although the limestone through which this tunnel was cut is normally a very strong and stable rock, where the foot wall of the fault makes up the roof of the tunnel additional cribbing was used to prevent any potentially loose chunk of rock from falling.
