The North Anatolian Fault (NAF) (Turkish: Kuzey Anadolu Fay Hattı) is a major active right lateral-moving geologic fault in northern Anatolia which runs along the tectonic boundary between the Eurasian Plate and the Anatolian Plate. The fault extends westward from a junction with the East Anatolian Fault at the Karliova Triple Junction in eastern Turkey, across northern Turkey and into the Aegean Sea. It runs about 20 km south of Istanbul.
The East Anatolian Fault runs in a northeasterly direction, starting from the Maras Triple Junction at the northern end of the Dead Sea Transform, and ending at the Karliova Triple Junction where it meets the North Anatolian Fault.

The bridge that crosses over the San Andreas fault at Little Cholame Creek. I am standing on the Pacific Plate, sliding to my left, the North American Plate on the opposite side of the bridge moves right. Because of this, the San Andreas fault is known as a right-lateral strike-slip fault. Parkfield - Central California
This is a seismogram from the Chiang Mai seismic station in Thailand. The noise was caused by a magnitude 6.2 offshore earthquake in Indonesia. The quake hit at 5:29 AM, local time, on 16 January 2023. The epicenter was about 43 kilometers west of the town of Barus, Sumatra, Indonesia. The hypocenter was between 35 and 40 kilometers deep. Shaking resulted from thrust faulting along a northwest-southeast striking fault zone.

An earthquake is a natural shaking or vibrating of the Earth caused by sudden fault movement and a rapid release of energy. Earthquake activity is called "seismicity". The study of earthquakes is called "seismology". The actual underground location of an earthquake is the hypocenter, or focus. The site at the Earth's surface, directly above the hypocenter, is the epicenter. Minor earthquakes may occur before a major event - such small quakes are called foreshocks. Minor to major quakes after a major event are aftershocks.
Most earthquakes occur at or near tectonic plate boundaries, such as subduction zones, mid-ocean ridges, collision zones, and transform plate boundaries. They also occur at hotspots - large subsurface mantle plumes (Examples: Hawaii, Yellowstone, Iceland, Afar).
Earthquakes generate four types of shock waves: P-waves, S-waves, Love waves, and Rayleigh waves. P-waves and S-waves are body waves - they travel through solid rocks. Love waves and Rayleigh waves travel only at the surface - they are surface waves. P-waves are push-pull waves that travel quickly and cause little damage. S-waves are up-and-down waves (like flicking a rope) that travel slowly and cause significant damage. Love waves are side-to-side surface waves, like a slithering snake. Rayleigh waves are rotational surface waves, somewhat like ripples from tossing a pebble into a pond.
Earthquakes are associated with many specific hazards, such as ground shaking, ground rupturing, subsidence (sinking), uplift (rising), tsunamis, landslides, fires, and liquefaction.
Some famous major earthquakes in history include: Shensi, China in 1556; Lisbon, Portugal in 1755; New Madrid, Missouri in 1811-1812; San Francisco, California in 1906; Anchorage, Alaska in 1964; and Loma Prieta, California in 1989.

This is a photograph from the 60th Anniversary Commerative Half Marathon for Tullamore Harriers AC which was held on Saturday 31st August 2013 in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland at 12:00. This was a really great event and there couldn't be any fault found with any aspect of the race. There were stewarts all along the route, 3 drink stations with bottled water, superb facilities, and great after-race refreshments. Tullamore Harriers and the local community really worked together to make this is a wonderful event.

This race celebrates the 60th Anniversary (a Diamond Anniversary) of the foundation of Tullamore Harriers AC. The club was formed in the town in November 1953. However, it was almost 1979 before facilities close to what we see today open in the present day site. Over 50 provincial and national athletics meetings are held at Tullamore Harriers every year. The facilities available combined with it's central geographical location joing routes from North, South, East, and West make it a very attractive venue. The race today brings competitive national road racing back to The Harriers. In the past there was the famous Quinnlan Cup
Festival of Races (see a link below for some nostalgia) which was one of Ireland's Blue Ribband events. Today, the facilities at Tullamore Harriers are the envy of many athletics clubs in Ireland. The facilities provided by Tullamore make it one of the premier venues for local and national level athletics in Ireland. There is an Olympic standard tartan track, a fully equipped gym, changing facilities, press and media facilities, meeting room spaces, etc. The club also provides a social center and niteclub which makes "The Harriers" a very well known on the local social scene. Esssentially, the town of Tullamore would be a different place if it weren't for the presence of Tullamore Harriers AC.
Overall Race Summary
Participants: There was about 500 participants of runners, joggers, and walkers.
Weather: The midday start seen warm pleasant conditions for running. The layout of the course meant that there was a stiff breeze into the face of competitors for the first few miles. When the race turned around to return to Tullamore the wind was more favourable to runners.
Course: The race starts on the Charleville Road just outside the entrance to Tullamore Harriers. The race proceeds south along the R421 and onto the N52 before taking a route onto local back roads. The race then completes a large rural road route before it joins to the R421 again and the final 1.5 miles are the same as the first mile of the race. The runners enter tullamore stadium and complete one lap of the tartan track before the finish line. The course is challenging in places with some undulations along the route. But overall it is fair course.

Refreshments: There was a very impressive selection of refreshments including sandwiches, cakes, home-made breads, etc in the Harriers clubhouse afterwards. People were able to enjoy their post race refreshments outside in the warm pleasant sunshine.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. On the left is the new regulator nipple and diaphragm, on the left the old with the alloy disc shown concave. This will reduce the distance the diaphragm can open the valve.
Was intresting to see how these have moved on since their introduction last year...and if it ain't broke don't fix it....Still in my opinion the perfect coach and again could not find fault with it. Seen on the Pelican stand at Coach and bus live Nova Tours Yutong GT12 C53FT. Photo taken 02/10/19

I try not to post unflattering pictures from my hometown because I feel like there are things which are much more beautiful to be said about Flint, but this particular scene seemed frozen in time - hence the addition to my photostream.

This is a fault line that shows how the layers of the rock shifted at one point in time.
This could be due to a sinkhole or tectonic activity for example.
The reverse offers another religious saying, which leads me to believe the Jesus quote is a non sequitur. I offered the title as an irony.
