Dislocated sidewalks and cracks in teh asphalt are signs of an underground fault. This was caused by many years of "creeping" - the plates on both side of the fault moving in opposite directions in very small increments.

"The Fault" by Viviane Silvers, a sculpture at Vanderbilt featuring a baby reaching out to a woman who's turning away sadly. Very strange.

The thing that concerns me most is what happens with no one watching. It's like what they say about a tree falling with no one to hear it – of course it makes a sound, but what sound exactly stays a secret. Faith has always felt that way for me. There's too much complexity to stand around and debate it, too much pornographic religion in public. I grew up around a lot of angry doctrine, and that taught me the virtue of keeping quiet. Now I interact with silence, with the crumbling history of forgotten churches, losing their grip on gravity. They are my connection to a spirit, far more holy than it was in my youth.

This track, and the whole berserkerpoetry album, is available on bandcamp. You can preview it for free.

The Fault

when we realized that we were in the desert

we built a religion to worship thirst

we spoke to each other of a perfect oasis

then said that finding it was not our purpose

we made saints of those who could go on starving

when we bid farewell to the forgotten famine

those who closed their lips and felt no rain

and felt no pleasure through the joy of pain

"it's a door that doesn't open,"

we said of the archway

"it's a gate that doesn't close,"

we said of the vault

"it's a stairway to heaven,"

we said of the dead end

"it's our greatest virtue,"

we said of the fault

'Fault-lines: Disparate and desperate intimacies' was an exhibition by emerging curator Wong Binghao that introduced a new generation of artists who address queer experiences in their work. Shaped by Wong’s research in three broad areas—queer diasporas, affect and kinship—it presented video, installation and performance by emerging artists from Singapore, Asia and the United States.

The works in 'Fault-lines' reflect the artists’ personal experiences of moving across physical, cultural and virtual spaces. Displacement and flux complicate young people’s notions of embodiment, desire, and belonging, and inform the making of these works. The exhibition conveyed feelings of loneliness and estrangement through unique visual and verbal languages.

'D' (2015) by Hong Kong-based artist Lam Hoi Sin is a 10-metre wide vinyl installation that shows the geographical distance in kilometres between users of online dating sites. 'Ex nilalang' (2015), a high-definition video by Bhenji Ra & Justin Shoulder currently on view at the 8th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, explores nonhuman creatures through re-imagined Philippine myths.

During the exhibition visitors were invited to participate in 'Pillow talk', a series of informal conversations exploring the exhibition’s themes, and featured local and international activists, poets and others invited by Wong. For more information on the conversations for 'Pillow talk' visit www.lasalle.edu.sg/institute-of-contemporary-arts-sg/ and the ICA Singapore Facebook event page.

Wong Binghao is a curator and writer based in Singapore. He graduated in 2015 from University College London with a BA (First Class Honours) in History of Art. Previous curatorial projects are 'WE ARE LOSING INERTIA' (2014) at no.w.here, London, and 'Asymmetric Grief' (2015) at Arcadia_Missa, London.

There's a more famous one of these or maybe this is it but we were so far from it that you can barely see the fault running across the alluvium. Of course that means that the fault is younger than the alluvium, and therefore considered "recent" in geologic time.

I tried to take a picture of these two beautiful women (Nick's daughter and new girlfriend), but they insisted that I take a picture of their breasts instead. Honest!

This is the result of land compression.

I know the San Andreas Fault passes near Cajon Pass, but there weren't any markers or obvious signs. This gully looks a /little/ suspicious.

Amazing book. I am on chapter 5 but you must read it ♥

Why try being a muse when others amusement devours us forget that we've allowed these people who live to impress you're old love doing flips assure that restored movement seems less like assault for yourself has seen the pain you severed ties between supporters of the second chances while symptoms of a gastappo forms campaigns of this injustice their not there anymore ethereal them lives far from the last words basking this is it so I'm not one of the mean cruelty gained off silences you can't save what you can't see light up your spark listen to them when the phones over flowing with I hate come back pleads because if this is far away why be something that loves to burn

Left-lateral strike-slip and normal faults along NM 337 south of Tijeras, NM. A combination of a strike-slip fault on the right and normal faults, probably forming as a result of the strike-slip motion. These faults in the Madera Limestone are Laramide in age in spite of being only a few miles east of the Rio Grande Rift.

This rock must have become fairly isotropic after it solidified, if it cracks like this. It still weathers in layers but cracs like a solid. That's a bit strange.

Day 322 ~ Well, Crap

Thursday, November 17th, 2016

I’m still debating about how much detail to go into because there is fault involved (that’s not my own) that caused this traumatic knee injury. For now I’ll be vague about the specifics. But the end result is that I took a horrific fall down some steps (which Anna witnessed). My left foot slipped on the first step down, I tried to grab the rails and couldn’t regain my balance. My right leg went straight out (FYI, my knee replacement is in my right knee so my good knee is the one that got injured). My left leg bent at the knee, went to the left of my body and ended up behind my left shoulder as my body continued down the three steps and my foot stayed behind me. The ER on Tuesday said nothing was broken or dislocated but to get a follow-up MRI in a day or two because sometimes injuries don’t show up right away with the swelling. They put me in a full leg brace and said to not bear any weight on it. Mom came to the ER and brought my walker from my previous knee surgeries. I saw my family doctor Tuesday afternoon and she said it could be a sprain which would take about six weeks to heal or there could be a tear in the meniscus or ligaments. She ordered the MRI which happened Friday afternoon. I wasn’t even home yet when I got the call about the results. There is a partial tear in the tendon that holds the kneecap to the lower leg and there is damage to the kneecap. Crap. It’s bad. This is a season-ending injury in football. I see the surgeon on Monday to talk about treatment options. My family doc said it just might be time to do the knee replacement on the left. I’m just sick inside. We had to cancel our trip to Ohio for Thanksgiving and we had a lot of plans for parties and get-togethers coming up in December. I was getting between 10-13K steps a day, exercising every day, and being the most active and happy I’ve been in years. I’m so so so angry and sad. I’ll update next week after I see the surgeon.
