- The Sleight of Mind Set Workshops FAQs -September 2012

Hi,Further to our recent information sent out, we've had a lot of people ask us questions about the Sleight of Mind Set Workshops. So, we've put together the following FAQ. If you have any other questions, please feel free to get in touch with us. For more information on the workshops, please look at mindsways.com/SMS/

DO YOU TEACH ME THE TRICKS?

Yes, although we prefer to call them effects. You come away from the workshops with ways to:

Float a note

Influence, control and predict people's choices

Make people hallucinate

Warp paper in people's hands

Predict any card, object or selection

Read anyone's mind, anywhere, anytime you want

For more information on these effects, please see mindsways.com/SMS/

WHAT'S IN THE KITS? DO I HAVE TO PAY EXTRA FOR THEM?

No, they both come as part of the programme. The Sleight of Mind Set has the material that allows you to do the above effects. The SNT (Show, Not Tell) kit is a tool and resource all on its own. For full details, please go to mindsways.com/SNT/

WHERE CAN I USE THIS?

You can use this anywhere. To see how it's already been used, you can look at the business page (at mindsways.com/business), the community page (at mindsways.com/community) and the therapy and coaching page (at mindsways.com/therapy-and-coaching)

WHERE ARE THE WORKSHOPS?

The workshops are being held across the UK in Birmingham, Bath, Glasgow and London.

WHAT ARE THE TIMES AND DATES OF THE WORKSHOPS?

All of the workshops start at 10 a.m. and aim to finish about 5 p.m. The Birmingham Workshop is on 13th November, Bath will be on 15th November, Glasgow is on 20th November and London will be either on 27th or 28th November.

HOW MUCH IS IT? ARE THERE DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE?

Yes, there are discounts available for multiple booking. For Birmingham, one place is £99.99 and two places are £189.99. The prices for Bath are £129.99 for one place and £249.99. For Glasgow, the price is £119.99 for one person and £229.99 for two. Finally, London is £139.99 for one person and £259.99 for two people. The prices vary because of venue capacity and availability.

DO I NEED PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE?

No, not at all. The open workshops take every one through the process step by step. The approach we take is closer to mind magic and mentalism (Derren Brown etc.) rather than conjuring (Paul Daniels etc.) Previous participants have found the effects practical for what they do. For more on this, please go to mindsways.com/about/what-people-say

IS THE COURSE ACCREDITED?

No. This is because it's based on non-traditional approaches, uncommon knowledge from magic and is delivered flexibly, based on the people who are attending. It's this flexible and non-traditional approach that creates its strength.

IS THERE A DRESS CODE?

No, we take an informal approach where everyone is comfortable and have fun.

IS LUNCH PROVIDED?

No, lunch is not provided by us. All of the venues, however, are located near shops and town centres. We put aside at least an hour for lunch on the day and provide tea and coffee.

DO I NEED TO BRING A NOTEBOOK?

This depends on your personal preference. It's not necessary as we provide:

The SNT kit

The SMS pack

A 2-hour video with instructions for the SNT kits

Presentation slides

Notes on the effects you will learn

Files for extra printed materials

Follow up opportunities

Systems for continual development

Post-workshop support, including email and phone access

ARE THERE WEBCASTS OR VIDEOS OF THE WORKSHOP AVAILABLE?

No, we are currently not offering video streams or webcasts that are suitable for distance learning. However, the SNT kit is available separately, which includes the 2 hour video which is suitable for distance learning. For more information, please see mindsways.com/SNT/

WHY IS IT CALLED SLEIGHT OF MIND SET?

Most magicians are known for using "sleight of hand" to pull of their tricks. We like to use sleight of mind to pull off ours. It is also about understanding people's attitudes, perceptions and ideas, or in other words, their mind sets.

DO YOU DO THIS IN-HOUSE?

Yes, we offer bespoke training to companies and organisations that are dedicated to training and developing their staff at any level. For more information on this, please get in touch using contact@mindsways.com

HOW DO I BOOK ON THE WORKSHOP?

You can book on the workshop by going to mindsways.com/SMS and using the options at the bottom. You can use PayPal or Google, which both give you the option to use their paying systems if you are already registered, or use a credit or debit card to pay. There are other alternatives available and you can use the contact button at the bottom of the web page to do this as well.

WHAT MAKES THIS SO DIFFERENT?

The mix of over a hundred years of mind magic tradition, psychology, neuroscience, design and smart thinking makes the materials and approach available extremely rare. Mind magic still maintains its pull factor and has always intrigued and fascinated. It attracts large theatres of people and huge TV audiences. We bring both personal and practical experience in all of these areas.

To book on the workshops now, click here or go to mindsways.com/SMS/

Thanks.

George

PS If you would like to know more about this subject, please take a look at www.mindsways.com/books/ to see some of what has influenced our approach.

Power Bank FAQ

1) WHAT IS A POWER BANK?

A Power Bank serves as an extra battery or external charger for your phone or other electronic devices. It comes in handy in emergencies or whenever your USB device runs out of battery power.

2) HOW DO I CHARGE A POWER BANK?

The most common way you can charge your Power Bank is via your computers usb port.

3) HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CHARGE THE POWER BANK?

Its depends on the capacity of the Power Bank. The larger the capacity (measured as aMh milliamp hours), the longer charging time required. Different charging methods may result in different charging time as well.

4) WHAT IS MAH?

mAh means milli Ampere Hour, the capacity of the power bank is measured in mAhs! A low capacity Power Bank would be a 2000 mAh while currently, high capacity Power Banks range above 20,000 mAhs. The Best bag for your buck is a Power Bank in the 5000- 7000 aMh range.

5) HOW MANY CHARGES ARE IN A POWER BANK?

Thats kind of like saying how many people can fit in a car?. A big car (Cadillac Escalade) can hold 10 small people (kids) and a small car (VW Beetle) can only hold 2 Very Large People. Each Power Bank has varying capacity (ie how many aMHs) and each phone or device has a differing size of battery (ie a cell phone takes less Juice to power up than an I-Phone) However, a simple way to look at this is a 12000mAh Power Bank should be able to charge a 1500mAh capacity cell phone about 8 times.

6) WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN 18650 POWER BANK AND A LI-POLYMER POWER BANK?

An 18650 is a Samsung designation. This type of battery holds the charge longer, is more stable and more reliable than a Li-Polymer Power Bank. All of our Power Banks are 18650 unless specifically stated otherwise.

What Power Bank is suitable for you?

Milliamps often interchanged with Milliamp Hours, or mAh, is used to describe the amount of charge a battery will hold.

Amp Output , abbreviated as "A", determines how fast your powerbank will charge. For example, a powerbank

FAQ is an acronym for "Frequently Asked Question(s)". The term refers to listed questions and answers, all supposed to be frequently asked in some context, and pertaining to a particular topic. Since the acronym originated in textual media, its pronunciation varies; "fak," "faks," "facts," and "F.A.Q.," are commonly heard. Depending on usage, the term may refer specifically to a single frequently asked question, or to an assembled list of many questions and their answers.

While the name may be recent, the FAQ format itself is quite old. For instance, Matthew Hopkins wrote The Discovery of Witches in 1647 in FAQ format. He introduces it as "Certaine Queries answered," ... Many old catechisms are in a question-and-answer (Q&A) format.

The FAQ is an Internet textual tradition originating from a combination of mailing list-laziness plus speculation and a separate technical and political need within NASA in the early 1980s. The first FAQ developed over several pre-Web years starting from 1982 when storage was expensive. On the SPACE mailing list, the presumption was that new users would ftp archived past messages. In practice, this never happened. Instead, the dynamic on mailing lists was for users to speculate rather than use very basic original sources (contacting NASA which was not part of ARPA and had only one site on the ARPANET) to get simple answers. Repeating the "right" answers becomes tedious. A series of different measures from regularly posted messages to netlib-like query mailing daemons were set up by loosely affiliated groups of computer system administrators. The acronym FAQ was developed in 1983 by Eugene Miya of NASA for the SPACE mailing list [1] (Miya notes that Mark Horton's "18 question" periodic post (PP)happened concurrent to the SPACE FAQ, although it was not labelled with the word FAQ). The format was then picked up on other mailing lists. Posting frequency changed to monthly, and finally weekly and daily across a variety of mailing lists and newsgroups. The first person to post a weekly FAQ was Jef Poskanzer to the Usenet net.graphics/comp.graphics newsgroups. Eugene Miya experimented with the first daily FAQ. The first FAQ were initially attacked by some mailing list users for being repetitive.
