Warblers may not be dressed up in their most vibrant colors this time of year, but they're still a welcome sight.

Woodcock Creek Lake, Crawford County, PA. This was one of two immature plovers that recently came through our area. The lighting wasn't great that day, but seeing these birds near each other provided an excellent opportunity to work on my shorebird ID skills. Thanks for looking and your comments or feedback.

(Cistothorus palustris) -- Marsh Wren

The pugnacious Marsh Wren clings to wetland vegetation, tail cocked and legs splayed, often with each foot wrapped around a different stalk. This rusty-brown wren has black-and-white streaks down its back and a white eyebrow. It sings a rapid-fire gurgling, trilling, and buzzy song from the depths of the marsh where its secretive life unfolds. Under the cover of reeds, males build multiple nests and breed with more than one female. They also destroy eggs and nestlings of other Marsh Wrens and marsh-nesting birds.

These big white egrets are doing their slow motion fall migration. Lots of them in Oklahoma right now, but not flocked up. Mostly solitary birds.

Our beautiful world, pass it on.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird - Green Spring Gardens Park

Georgia Mountains. A bit of a twiggy obstruction which usually sends the image to trash but I really like the fall colors and pose so decided to post it. What do you think?

Fall migration of the ruby-throat hummingbird has emptied most of these little birds from North America-- as they head south for the winter (Mexico, Central America....) Just when you think they are all gone, here's another one, a straggler, as night time temperatures dip to near freezing, but not quite...

Hummingbird migration seems to be underway in North Texas. Thursday afternoon in 107 degree temps, this beauty visited my front yard. He was enjoying my crepe myrtle blossoms. He would not let me walk outside with my camera but did come and perch on this branch right outside my window. Tomorrow I'll share the photo that confirmed his species.

Yellow-rumped Warbler Myrtle - Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge

Hummingbirds at feeder during the peak of the migration in fall 2025 (turn up your volume)

Flitting around a little too quick for me

These birds were flying south, in the Canada Goose V formation, and one tends to ignore such flocks. But there was an unusual pitch to the calling, and I looked up to see two Swans right near the front of the V of a very large flock of Canada Geese. I will be less likely to ignore these flights in the future, at least when I am on the migratory highway in Prince Edward County.

but look at this beautiful Yellow Warbler being difficult in the Willows by the lake.

Bay-breasted warbler

DJH00391-Edit

Every day brings in new warblers to the backyard.

I was very happy with this one yesterday, and after doing a bird count all day, and not finding this species, it was a nice bonus to have it in my yard when I got home :-)

Tennessee warbler

Migration of ruby-throat hummingbirds through out North America is happening... and while the "little bird" population is trending down, there are still a few birds flying about in the garden...

Great Egret - Huntley Meadows Park

Photographed 17 October 2021, Gooseberry Neck, Westport, Bristol County, Massachusetts

Fall warblers are really difficult for me to identify. I narrowed this one down to one of three but thought it would be more fun to have flickr friends have a chance to ID it.

I've got a lot of Tundra shots but for some reason I like this one just where they hit the branches of the trees

(as opposed to the ones in the clear sky!)

I'm still seeing several hummingbirds in the area. Soon they will be heading south.

Woodcock Creek Dam, Crawford County, PA. A female or immature yellow-rumped warbler takes a break from foraging and fluttering off for flying insects. Thanks for looking and your comments or feedback.

Busy little birdie, it's tail constantly pumps up and down

During my visit to friends Jodie and Paul in Prince Edward County on the weekend, the weather was mostly terrible, on the heels of strong wind and rain storms that had brought down trees and led to significant power losses. So this solitary Duck, bobbing in fairly huge waves, seemed a stoic figure.

This cutie was in the trees across the creek from me. I knew it was one of those confusing migrating empids but not which one. Got the id from a bird expert who reviews for ebird. Glad it was identifiable cause the little imp never let me see its tail and didn't make a peep.
