A lark sparrow (Chondestes grammacus) at the compost heap in Central Park from last Sunday. This was the first time when I was the first reporter for a rare-ish bird.

 

The large numbers of Flickers must have attacked the falcon.

I was hoping to see more of these Warblers, but I only saw a few, and they all seemed to like the dark of these trees. Ratz!

The American oystercatcher is a shorebird species that is easily identified by its long, bright reddish-orange bill, yellow eyes, and distinct red eye ring.

The Sanderling is one of the world’s most widespread shorebirds. Though they nest only in the High Arctic, in fall and winter you can find them on nearly all temperate and tropical sandy beaches throughout the world.

Not always easy to identify in fall plumage, this sparrow was bopping in and out of the shrubbery at Lake Erie Metropark along the Trappers Run trail near the nature center.
