Thanks for a great 2008. Fingers crossed for '09.
A video for 2009:
Thank you my friends for your kind comments, faves, and well wishes during my absence. I seem to be on the road back to good health, and once again feel safely able to wander the wilds with my camera in this remote place.
The cold weather has only just arrived so there has not been fog or much fall color to inspire. Mostly, I have been photographing fallen logs for reference! It has rained a lot, which means there will be a good spring wildflower showing.
Except for a little doorway remodeling and installation of better lighting I will be ready to begin my adventure as a faux bois artist in 2017!
Fall on the Gunpowder Falls River in Baltimore County, Maryland. With the lower water level was able to get out into the riverbed.
When composing this shot, I was thinking of how the water was falling gently from step to step. How separated this was from the main water falls. And, how the flow led my eyes from the dark top, to the bright bottom.
At the bottom of the shot, a small tree had leaves that were clinging onto their branches. Their golden color went well with the bright area and the image took form. From the lifeless darkness at the top, to the brighter and more lively bottom, a story took shape.

If you look up toward the sky you will always find beautiful leaves like these yellow maple leaves. They looked so bright against the blue sky that fall day.
The mushrooms suddenly appear in spring and fall. My neighbour always has giant ones sprout up. They were away today so I snuck over to take some shots

Outcrop of Heldeberg Bluestone in our woods. I was delighted to discover these when we first moved here 25 years ago. This rock splits cleanly along the lines, resulting in flat slabs that were once used as sidewalks in NYC.
