A couple of forgotten waterfall shots caught my attention and passed a little time. This little waterfall is on the stream which runs past Goathland railway station and passes under the "Harry Potter bridge" which is in a state of disrepair at the moment. The Bluebells were a lovely surprise, dotted around the falls. I sat my camera on a rock to grab this.

This plushie I made on commission, but the design is my own, based on this picture from my blog:

The eyes were a bit of a challenge as I haven't made them like this before, but I think they turned out ok.

Intrepid reporter stumbles across her flickr idol in the woods and discovers faerie paradise. <3 I loved meeting you Cole <3

Magical light in what's left of the gardens at the end-of-the-day. Pretty much SOOC w/just minor adjustments to levels and a quick crop.

A fairy is a spirit or supernatural being that is found in the legends, folklore, and mythology of many cultures. They are generally portrayed as humanoid in appearance and as having supernatural abilities such as the ability to fly, cast spells and to influence or foresee the future.

Fairies were noted for their mischief and malice, when considered as beings that a person might actually encounter. Water faeries and hags (eg. Peg Powler and Jenny Greenteeth), prone to drowning people, could be avoided by avoiding the bodies of water they inhabit.

This fairy is currenly residing in Wailea, Maui, Hawaii.

Close as I can remember to the name of this Beauty!

Hope everyone had a marvelous and carefree fourth of July Celebration! The rains here, held off on the Riverfront Show and Fireworks, which were attended by over 100,000 folks! Quite a show which was hosted by Michael McDonald, a resident here and featuring other Artists and 16,000 different fireworks which lasted for 20 minutes! We watched it on the television,as there is just too much traffic!

Rains came within a quarter hour of it's end, and we would have gotten drenched before reaching our car! Heh-Heh!

This was made for the Fairy Tale category of the MOCathalon as well as the continuation of the Faerie Forest in Avalonia :)

The large blue flower is inspired by eilonwy77's candle holder :) It's excellent, check it out.

Enjoy!

The wings are from one of the butterflies from my collection of butterflies which I found dead.

This funky art pendant features a mini-print of one of my original artworks - a whimsical drawing of a curly-haired fairy.. The print was adhered to a wooden Scrabble tile, and sealed for protection with a hard glossy finish. A sterling silver bail has been securely attached to the back.

Had a little trip out to Kirklinton Hall today, and bumped into the owner who allowed me around to take a few shots of the waterfalls and Hall which was much appreciated. There has been a lot of work done on the gardens and Hall since I last visited a few year back now.

It was also a good excuse to have a play with my new toy, my Canon 70D and I was very impressed and didn't find it too difficult to use.

A couple of shots of the falls in The Faerie Glen near Rosemarkie. The 30 second exposure means the autumn leaves floating in the pool add a strange golden swirl.

It was so much fun photographing this lovely group of Fey women at the Carolina Renaissance Festival in Huntersville, North Carolina, USA. I love their amazing and fanciful garb.

Explored - Highest position: 302 on Thursday, January 18, 2024, Thanks for all the views, comments and FAVs.

I promise you that you’ll enjoy this one of you can view this in 3D! This is a perfect example of composing for depth, where the 2D image appears cluttered but the 3D image neatly places things in layers. Note: this is a cross-view 3D image!

The main image is cross-view 3D, meaning that you are supposed to cross your eyes to see the three dimensional effect. This is done by inverting the order of the images so the left side is on the right and vice versa. When you cross your eyes, the goal is to see three versions of the image – the middle one will consist of your left eye seeing the right image and your right eye seeing the left image in overlap, bringing the image to life. I usually start with the images filling no more than 20% of my field of view. Here’s a lengthier tutorial… and trust me, you’ll love what you see if you can get it to work: www.kula3d.com/how-to-use-the-cross-eyed-method.html

If you’ve got a stereoscope, VR headset or other viewer, here’s a version that works perfectly with these visual aids: donkom.ca/stereo/DKP_6686-parallel.jpg

Anaglyph version (those red/blue funky glasses): donkom.ca/stereo/DKP_6686-anaglyph.jpg

MPO file that can be displayed on most 3DTV’s (often by loading the file onto a memory card/stick and plugging it into the TV): donkom.ca/stereo/DKP_6686-3DTV.mpo

You’re looking at a thistle, illuminated with high amounts of ultraviolet light. The camera is on a tripod and during a 30 second exposure I am repeated flashing a set of four UV flashes to give me the maximum output over a length of time. This is required because the 3D macro lenses I use have very small fixed apertures, around F/45 or so for this one. These apertures are so small that diffractions comes into play, but you don’t notice it as much when you overlap the two images for a proper 3D view.

The flowers fluoresce a wonderful assortment of blues while the petals take on a reddish rust colour, which I think is beautifully in line with their thorny appearance. In order to make sure that there is no visible light contamination, an image is taken without the flashes to ensure that it is completely black. The flashes themselves are a combination of two filters that block all visible light: Hoy U-340 and MidOpt BP365. The Hoya bleeds a bit of red light while the MidOpt filter bleeds a bit of purple, but paired together they block each-other’s light bleed and “purify” the resulting UV light. If anything bounces back to the camera, it’s because whatever surface the UV light hit has fluoresced into the visible spectrum for the camera to capture.

While it would be very difficult to tech 3D photography or UV fluorescence photography in groups, I’d happily book a private workshop with anyone that wants to come to my studio to learn how to make images like this. :)

Also, due to popular demand, I’ve opened up a second date for my day-long macro photography workshop held in my award-winning gardens and studio. Check it out, it could fill up quickly! www.donkom.ca/product/full-day-macro-workshop-july-28-2018/

JAGO: *Reading aloud.* "The faerie godmothers came to the feast, flying through the air. You can see most of them in the pictures above, and you will easily judge which one is the angry one."

SCOUT: *Studies the pictures of faerie godmothers at the top of the pages closely.* "Hhhmm..." *Murmurs quietly.* "Well, I certainly won't be asking for anything from the crabby thirteenth faerie godmother! She looks mean!"

PADDY: "What was that, Scout?"

JAGO: "Ahem!" *Clears throat and continues to read.* "The banquet was a very sumptuous one. When it was over, the godmothers came up one by one to the throne, on which the queen sat with her little daughter in her arms, and , kneeling before the throne, each endowed the child with some gift. The first..."

SCOUT: "Stop please Jago!"

PADDY: "Stop, Scout?"

SCOUT: "Yes Paddy!" *Nods emphatically.*

JAGO: "Oh good. I need to take a sip of tea to moisten my lips anyway." *Picks up Goldilocks cup and takes a sip of tea.* "Reading faerie tales is thirsty work."

PADDY: "Why do you want Jago to stop there, Scout?"

SCOUT: "Because I need to ask the faeries something important, Paddy."

PADDY: "What do you need to ask them, Scout?"

SCOUT: "Well, Peter - you know, mijn beste vriend?"

PADDY and JAGO: "Yes, we know Peter, Scout."

SCOUT: "Well, he is visiting Sleeping Beauty's castle, and guess what?" *Excited.*

JAGO: "What Scout?"

SCOUT: "He met her! But she is teeny-tiny! Smaller than she looks in the books!"

PADDY: "Goodness! Is that right, Scout?"

SCOUT: "Yes Paddy. Sleeping Beauty has invited Peter to have a drink of lemonade with her, but he is too big to fit through the door. And that's why I have to talk to the faerie godmothers, Paddy."

PADDY: "You want to ask the faeries to make Peter small enough to fit through the door, Scout?"

SCOUT: "Yes Paddy, and I also want to ask them to make me teeny-tiny too, so that we can both visit Sleeping Beauty and have some lemonade!"

PADDY: "Oh!" *Bemused.*

JAGO: "I did think it was odd that Scout wanted Sleeping Beauty to be the first faerie tale I read him today, rather than Little Red Riding Hood."

PADDY: "Now we know why." *Nods sagely.*

SCOUT: "Please pretty faerie godmothers - not you crabby old faerie at the end - please nice faeries, can you grant my wish and make mijn beste vriend Peter and I small enough so that we can visit Sleeping Beauty and have some lemonade?"

PADDY: "But what about after you have finished your visit, Scout?"

SCOUT: "What do you mean, Paddy?"

JAGO: "Paddy is right, Scout. You don't want to stay teeny-tiny after your visit, do you?"

SCOUT: "Oh no Jago!" *Thinks.* "Good idea! Thank you Paddy and Jago. And please pretty faerie godmothers - not you crabby old faerie at the end - please nice faeries, can you then make mijn beste vriend Peter and I normal size again after we have visited Sleeping Beauty and had our lemonade? Thank you!"

My bears Paddy and Scout have made very good friends with two bears in Holland called Peter and Oleg (www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577154558...) and their Mummy (www.flickr.com/photos/66094586@N06/) . Peter and Scout are very similar and have become best friends. Peter and Oleg went on holiday with Mummy Marian and visited Burg Eltz in Germany. You can see their photo in the first comment below, or by clicking here: www.flickr.com/photos/66094586@N06/52434842320/in/datepos.... Peter was convinced that this was Sleeping Beauty's castle, and sure enough it is, but Sleeping Beauty is teeny-tiny, as you can see in the first comment below, or by clicking here: www.flickr.com/photos/66094586@N06/52456560163/in/datepos.... So, Peter and Scout are going to ask the faerie godmothers to make them small enough to visit Sleeping Beauty, and then hopefully be returned to normal Peter and Scout size afterwards.

The book Jago is reading to Paddy and Scout from is "The Three Princesses - Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella", published by Marcus Ward & Co. of London, Belfast and New York circa 1880. It has a yellow "Young’s Library, Kensington W" on the inside of the front cover in the bottom right-hand corner.

This beautiful faerie tale pantomime nursery tea set was made in England by the Shell China Company in the 1930s. It features eight cups, saucers and plates (not all the set is being used today) as well as a teapot, coffee pot, milk jug, sugar bowl, platters, sandwich plate, a lidded soup tureen on its own dish and a gravy or cream jug. Each piece is gilt edged and decorated and feature different faerie tales including: "Cinderella", "Little Red Riding Hood", "Dick Whittington and his Cat", "Jack and the Beanstalk" and "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" amongst others. The set I acquired from England, and it is a sister set to a 1920s Shell China Company nursery rhyme tea set that I was given as a gift some years ago by a close friend who knows I collect nursery ware and children’s tea sets.

My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.

He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.

Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.

Jago was a gift from a dear friend in England. He is made of English mohair with suede paw pads and glass eyes. He is a gentle bear, kind and patient who carries an air of calm about him. He fits in with everybear else very nicely.

Can anyone identify this tree? Cheesequake's hardwood forest is known for containing Oak, Maple, Birch, and Gum trees. I'd love to know what species this is, but clearly no leaves to go by in winter.

"Cheesequake State Park is a 1,610-acre (2.52 mi2) state park located in Old Bridge, Middlesex County, New Jersey, in the United States.

The New Jersey Legislature allocated $100,000 in 1937 to purchase property for the park. The state first acquired a 250-acre (100 ha) tract of farmland and a Civil War-era mansion from the Favier brothers in January 1938. Additional lands were acquired over the next two years, and the Civil Conservation Corps, part of the Works Progress Administration, helped develop the property. The park was opened in June 1940. It is operated and maintained by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry and is part of the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail Route.

The name Cheesequake has been variously described as deriving from the Lenape words Cheseh-oh-ke ("upland"), Chichequaas ("upland village"), or Chiskhakink ("at the land that has been cleared").

The park's lowlands consist of freshwater and saltwater marsh and a tidal estuary near the mouth of Cheesequake Creek on the Raritan Bay. It also includes hills of Northeastern hardwood forest, open fields, and a white cedar swamp. It includes a small parcel of Atlantic coastal pine barrens, consisting of pine forest in sandy soil, an isolated section of the much larger New Jersey Pine Barrens. It also includes the 6-acre (24,000 m2) Hooks Creek Lake, a freshwater lake where recreational fishing features trout, largemouth bass, catfish, and sunfish. Crabbing is also available at the park.

The park includes an interpretive center and five marked trails for both hiking and mountain biking that run throughout the wooded hills and across long wooden bridges across marshland. The park has designated camping areas available by reservation. Swimming and boating are summertime activities, while sledding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing are available in wintertime.

The Garden State Parkway runs through the park near exit 120 but offers no direct access. A road runs underneath the parkway to connect the northern and southern sides of the park. Parts of the park, including a picnic area, are visible from the parkway. Aberdeen-Matawan station (New Jersey Transit) is located about two miles east of the park." (Wikipedia)

Being Irish, I'm a dab hand at recognizing fairy pools, so please don't question me. Clearly the wee folk bathe here.
