I am truly burned out by my job. The future of the media business looks bleak and my interest in doing something meaningful and creative with my life is hindered by the need for subsistence. As Pew Research's The State of the News Media 2013 says, "[A] news industry that is more undermanned and unprepared to uncover stories, dig deep into emerging ones or to question information put into its hands. And findings from our new public opinion survey released in this report reveal that the public is taking notice. Nearly one-third of the respondents (31%) have deserted a news outlet because it no longer provides the news and information they had grown accustomed to."
When I first started this job, I felt that I was at a start of a long journey of growth, but over the past few years, it has turned into Sisyphus pushing a boulder up to the top of the hill only to see it roll back down and then rolling it back up over and over again. I don't feel like I am really making any difference. The entire industry is coasting towards mediocrity as can be seen with the Chicago Sun-Times laying off their staff of photographers. Instead of stepping up their game, media has decided to do more with less. I can't really blame them since revenues are on the decline as consumers look for other ways to get their news.
Personally, I don't really pay attention to news. The Sunday paper that my wife buys for the included coupons is skimmed through because I've already heard much of the news. One thing that I've enjoyed is CBS Sunday Morning. Its in depth look at what I think of "slice of life" journalism is something more than worthwhile to watch rather than a rehash of police reports and calling nearly everything under the sun "breaking news." I'm sure the writer of Ecclesiastics would lament such people as being fools.
Prior to the major reconstruction of this interchange in 2001-2002, there was no direct access to or from Sherway Gardens and the Gardiner Expressway. This MTO erected signage leads traffic from the mall to the eastbound Gardiner, or Brown's Line.

Dad watching Golan view from Tel Faher. My dad was a soldier in Golani in the six day war, fighting in this area. One regiment of Golani was being eliminated there by the Syrians, leaving only three uninjured. The place became somewhat of a memorial for the fallen.

I used a strange and fascinating new film, the Lomography RedScale, reverse mounted in order to get this cool color cast.
They seems to came out from a Ray-Ban catalogue.
While camping, it is generally not a happy feeling to see the sky fill with heavy rain clouds.
This cloud, one evening, was quite intriguing with its face pointing upward and gently touched with colour by the setting sun.
The stream is Windy Run, a minor tributary of the Potomac River in Arlington, Virginia.
