I am always on the lookout for those faces that seem to have the look of an interesting story. I think I got that from this gentleman during the 2017 Cinco de Mayo festivities. Possibly a Steinbeck character.
Netherlands, Amsterdam. On Queen's Day ("koninginnedag") everybody can earn a buck. Young and old, human and animal. The Amsterdam people have a "garage sale" along the canals. Children show off their talents behind a hat for the profits.
An example of the latter is this boy playing guitar. He played Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water and some other famous rock riffs. Despite his limited repertoire, he played them convincingly and flawless.
What struck me most though, was his consistent uninterested and disgruntled look. He seemed totally ready for rock star fame and fortune.

1) SB-600, 1/2 CTO, behind 1/8" Honl grid, front left of subject at about 6 ft away; about 3 ft above subject height. M 1/16 power, 24mm zoom.
2) SB-600, Full CTO, behind 35" shoot through umbrella, about 4ft right of subject. M 1/32 power, 24mm zoom. Both flashes wirelessly triggered via CLS..

Portrait of the jazz trumpet player Chet Baker from September17, 1986 taken in the Munich jazz club "Domicile". The club had no direct stage and you sat at the same height as the musicians. I sat directly opposite him and shot the photo with the Hasselblad 500CM, Planar 4.0 / 150mm and Kodak Royal b&w Film pushed to 1600ASA. At that time, there were not as good high-sensitivity films as later, the grain does not bother but underlined the expression of the image. Scanned with Nikon Supercoolscan 8000ED.

Gopis means cowherd damsels. They are know for their unconditional love for Lord Krishna.
The marking (tilaka) on the forehead represents Vishnu or Lord Krishna Himself. It is applied on twelve parts of the devotees body for protection and other esoteric meanings.
Kanti mala (Tulsi beads) are also worn around he neck. An initiated has three rounds of Tulsi beads on their neck.
The gopis dressed themselves beautifully and are expert in all art of bhakti yoga (loving devotional service) that is exclusively for the pleasure of Lord Krishna.

I interrupted his grooming in order to take a picture of him. He put up with it, but you can tell from his look that he was annoyed.
