It was quite windy the other day on the Bremerton ferry - and the seagulls were flying close to the ferry. Very close.
So close, that some teenagers decided to try and get the seagulls to take a chip or two out of their hand.
I'm pretty sure that 1 - it's illegal to feed them in WA, and 2 - they were tourists visiting Seattle.
But anyway..he was pretty fearless. I wouldn't have been able to stick my hand out, hoping a bird would be able to hold steady enough to grab it out of my fingers.
10 minutes later and probably a hundred shots - he did it.
It was pretty rad - and pretty bold. Kudos for being fearless, Michael.

EXPLORE Oct. 22, 2009 - #380 - Thanks, everyone!
Today, I demanded of one of my students that she give me a present, because I was feeling cranky. (yes, I do these things sarcastically and with a lot of love, and only to the kids who I know dig that kind of humor) She drew me this picture, of me and my imaginary twin sister Bondra. Bondra was born out a goofy flirtation with a friend of mine, and made her appearance at school this year, to explain how it seemed like I could be in so many places at once. We all know she's a figment of our over-active imaginations (or do we?) but the kids get a major kick out of telling me all the things they do with Bondra after-school, but how they don't like her because she says evil things about me. Apparently she's even comes to pick me up at school some days, but then drives off on her motorcycle before I can see her.
I really, really love working with kids. Most days. Some days. Regularly. :)

Caran D'Ache Pablo Colored Pencils on Canson Field Sketch Paper
I've continued yesterday's color study done with color markers, but here with colored pencils. The same procedure applies....first laying in a ground of pale yellow, then working in sanguine and gradually adding cool tones. This is essentially the procedure for 3 color lithographic printing. A three plate process, the first plate is printed yellow. Then red and finally blue on top. The colors effectively mix on the printing paper.
Colors (8) in order used: Lemon Yellow, Sanguine, Lilac, Yellow Green, Turquoise Blue, Cobalt Blue, Violet and Emerald Green
shock with a tinge of terror: this is probably what i looked like when i saw those mysterious girly boots in our house last night.
