Went out in the woods today, battled ants, lost my faceshield (damn, I only had three anyways) and managed to get some photos of Chad.

As today Arai helmet is one of the safest helmets around the world. So many people choose Arai helmet during races or even riding. In my oponion, Arai helmet is NOT the best helmet for some reasons that i am going to explain to you later; however, Arai helmet has some positive features that no other helmet has or atleast in that amount and that makes the Arai helmet defenetly outstanding!

Some of the differences between Arai and other brand helmets are:

1. Arai helmet directs the recived force from outside to smaller forces around the helmet sphere! To have a better understaning, wear an Arai helmet and tap on the helmet and see how you feel the tap inside the helmet! Then wear an Icon or KBC or HJC and tab on the helmet again! You are going to feel the difference!

2. Arai helmet is usually round and your head is in the center or at least you feel that way. The benefit of that is if you get hit in any direction, you are protected the same way! Not all helmets are round! For example, Shoei helmets -which are really safe and heavy duty helmets- are not round and the side of the Shoei helmet -which protect ears and side of the head- touches your ears and your head tightly and when you tap in the side area you can see that you can feel the force more clearly than when you tap the helmet on above! That's becasue on shoei helmet, there is more space between your head and helmet shield than your head and side of the helmet. In Arai, if you tap on the side of the helmet you still are going to feel it more clear than when you tap on top of the helmet but since the helmet is round and there is more space on the side of the helmet, you are going to feel the tap lighter than other brands!

3. Arai helmet has the largest driving view! In Arai helmet -when you turn your head- you can see the rear right and rear left more visible than any other helmet! In addition, the Arai faceshied is more clear than any other brand! No other helmet face shield is even close to Arai facesheild in visibility! Try any other brand new helmet such as Shoei, Bell, Agv,etc.. Their faceshield are not that clear! When you are wearing a brand new Arai helmet with the faceshield closed, it just feels that faceshield is a glass! It is that clear!! Plus Arai has the largest width in faceshield! I have tried many other helmets from different brands but no other helmet has the width (from lowest spot to the highest spot you can see on the faceshield) as Arai does! Some of the helmets facesheild might seem similar in the first look but in real use they show their difference! I was planning to do some tricks on the bike so i needed the view that when i stand at pegs during riding, i still can see forward without pushing my head above also when i reach higher speed or in a windy day when i lean on the bike, i needed more view on the faceshield that i do n't need to push my head above so much. I tried different helmets; In all of them you need to move your head more than Arai. Shoei was not ecception either. Eventhough in Arai you have alittle bit more width than other helmets including Shoei, you still need to push you head above to get the front view completly clear!

4. Arai helmet is very comfortable; Not forgetting it is a full face helmet and when it is brand new, you can wear it for a longer time compare to other helmets before feeling tired.

5. The helmet is sealed from outside! On a windy dusty day, on a foggy or smoggy day, on a rainy day, forget about helmets like Icon, KBC, Scorpion, etc....they all bring some particles from outside to the inside, Arai when -it is new or has less than 5000miles on it- does not! I rode in rain, fog, smog, dust, windy day,etc..and Arai helmet sealed those smog more than other brands. I should mention that Shoei was great as Arai from being sealed from outside but Arai is more comfortable to wear when it is brand new.

6. If you are going to ride/drive fast or race or you know that you are going to pass 100km/h=62.1mph don't even think about non approved helmets! Now, i am not just talking about crash results! I am talking about the shake, vibration, and the performance of the helmet in high speed! I am talking about aero dynamic! A Scorpion helmet shakes like a black booty at 100mph=160.9km/h! In contrast, Arai stays in it's place with much less shakes than Scorpion and provides the visibility for its rider! I should mention, Shoei has the least shake in high speed than any other helmet including Arai!

Negative features of Arai helmet:

1. Arai helmet loses its quality so fast that you don't belive. When it is brand new, you enjoy from the features of the helmet but that does not last long!!.. After about 15,000 miles =24135km the Arai helmet is piece of crap! The cloth inside are so cheap that their material is going away like you are riding a tire!! Other than than, the side cloth inside the helmet (the ones that protect your jaws) did not connected to the helmet strong enough and they fall apart after 5000miles=8045km (so sad!) and your expensive Arai helmet apears as a big expensive shit after using and riding it. About the side cloths that i mentioned, i saw it on every used Arai helmet that was going to buy. I remember in 2007 i wanted to buy a bike and the seller offers me 2 Arai helmets, jackets, pants and even boots; that bike has 12,000 miles on it and the seller was keep saying that he bought the helmets brand new when he bought the bike. I didn't believe that word because those Arai helmets looks like you put them in ocean for 3 month then bring them out!!! now that i bought a brand new one the kind and one of the best Arai helmets and i see its quality after 10,000miles i do believe that seller statement that he actually bought those with the bought 1 year earlier!!

2. The fantastic clear visible faceshield of Arai helmet does not stay the most clear for so long. After 2000-3000 miles it starts showing the scratches. There are some bad aspects on the material of the Arai helmet!

First, it gets scratches so easily and so fast. I am not talking about you drop it or scartch it by purpose; i am talking about normal riding. Before you know it you have scratches on your faceshield! Shoei faceshield does not get scratch that easily!

Second, it shows scratches so clearly. For example i have a Shoei helmet that i rode 30,000miles in even harder enviroment than i did with Arai and that helmet does not show the scratches as clear as Arai.

Third, under the rain, Arai faceshield loses its visibility almost to Zero which become very hard and dangerous to ride and every second you have to clean the faceshield. In contrast, amazingly, Shoei's faceshield does not loses its visibility as much as Arai does almost all of it. With Shoei you actually don't feel the amount of the rain until you take the faceshield up and see how hard the rain in falling; With Arai, you think it is raing so hard and there is tornado and when you take off your faceshield, you just see a normal raining!!!!

Forth, Arai faceshield gets steamy from the inside super fast which decrease the visibilty sufficiently. Shoei helmet cost half of the Arai and does not get steamed on the inside of the faceshield easily as Arai does!

3. Arai helmets DO NOT absorb the noise the most! Siren vehicles (such as Ambulance, Fire department, Police,etc..) and even car horns can offend your ears when you are wearing an Arai helmet specially if your Arai helmet worked more than 10,000miles=16090km!!

4. Arai helmets get priced so high and in my oponion they DO NOT even worth half of the manufactory suggested price. They don't last long and their quality goes down like nothing you ever seen or expect from something Made in Japan! They also comes with warranty (when you buy it brand new) that makes you so happy and satisfied from the customer service but when you need the part and it has to shipped from Arai manufactory, God know how much you need to wait!!! (The super adsis faceshield holders of my Arai helmet got broken in high speed (not even too high about 100 to 120mph) and i went to the dealership which imports helmets from Arai manufactory. They call their Arai guy in the US and he didn't have the part and special order for me that part from Japan. Well, all i can tell you, From September 2008 until right now (november 2010), i am still waiting for that part to be shipped by Arai -while the dealership made an special order and i follow up with them every month or so- and still dealership did not recive the part!!

Some words with you!

I remember when i bought my Arai helmet, i was so happy and satisfied by its features, performance, looks, and the feelings gives to its rider but after about a year and using it in different enviroment i just find out Arai helmet defenetly is not the best. It has a low quality and does not last long. In my oponion Shoei helmet is The Best helmet in the world becasue of its features, its price, and most important its quality.

I bought my Arai helmet becasue every body recomended it (even the ones who never wear an Arai helmet!!) and i also saw it on many riders or people who ride/race in the track, plus it also felt so right when i tried the brand new Arai helmet! However, there was absloutly nobody who tells me about the negative points of an Arai! I came back to this picture and update its description to make everybody aware of the quality and the aspects of an Arai helmet in both negative and positive sides together so next time they want to select a helmet, they will be more vise and knowledgable. Everything that i said about the Arai or comparing it with Shoei and other brand was that absloute truth and came from my pure experience and use.

I have had a Shoei that was bought brand new by myself in November 2007 and worked 30,000miles48,270km on 3 different bikes in diffferent envoriment while i let about 20 other people wear the helmet and i was not super careful with the helmet and STILL that Shoei helmet is in exellent condtion and works and performs just like it was when it was brand new; it just has got some scratches on its body and its cloths are not as clean as they were when they were brand new. however, they are really clean after 30,00miles. In contrast, I have bought an Arai in May 2008 that after 15,000miles=24,135km riding on only 1 bike and while i let 4 other people wear the helmet (all temperary and less than a day), the Arai helmet looks like it has worked 100,000miles=160900km and it cloth inside (the ones that they are left!!) looks so dirty that you might think homeless people use that to bury their poopoo (no kidding, it really looks so dirty and disgusting)!!!

In my oponion, if you are going to buy an Arai helmet and you are going to own it for a long time and you expect the helmet to keep working good, think again and Reconsider Shoei!!
