Hello Flickr,

Since my last post we are all still stuck in this worldwide pandemic with what feels like daily amounts of advice, guidance, rules and regulations being offered up to the country by central government in a vague and confusing way.

I've not had very positive thoughts about this whole situation since the beginning. Anything that evokes fear, paranoia and divides people I hold with the greatest of suspicion. Instead I have concentrated on grounding, limiting my time in front of the news, placing myself where is best for me in all aspects of my life and being the best most authentic version of myself.

I was planning a different portrait but this one was borne out of real life imitating art. Many people have used this time to learn something new, get fit, read, walk, skip. I've used it to further my knowledge of fermenting food. It's been something I have wanted to learn more about since listening to a piece on Radio 4 a number of years ago. I have started humbly with sauerkraut and hand on heart it has changed everything. I eat a small amount every day and the next morning I feel alert, rested with no brain fog at all.

Anyone who has ever seen me in the morning will know this is unheard of but it's working for me right now and it feels right, and you know me- I follow what feels right.

With the style of this image, I've tried to reference liu Susiraja, a Finnish Artist who creates very surreal, almost self deprecating self portraits that are both terrible and inspired at the same time.

Dex and I were in Bookers in Manchester at the weekend. Currently 'face coverings' are mandatory in shops in the UK. There is so much noise and confusion about this and I'm not adding to that here, but I have my face shield and that does for me. I'd wandered the length of the shop to go and pick up a couple of cabbages for more sauerkraut, and I was wandering back down the aisles looking for Dex. He looked up to see me standing there like this. I thought I'd recreate the moment in the space I have been working from home in since March. The tomato plants are thriving behind me and I've sold lots of succulents and spider plants as the hot weather has helped really bring them all along.

Mask with face shield is a bad form of false security. Sometimes is more less!

In 2022, I returned to Colombia. The main purpose of this trip was to explore the Amazonian rainforest areas near Leticia and then on the Rio Negro. In 2007 I was in the Leticia area on a volunteering project and the 2022 trip gave me the chance to see more of the area.

As these are border areas, with the rivers travelled actually being the borders, I also visited / transitted through Brazil, Peru and Venezuela. I will create one master set / album for the entire six week trip, plus separate country albums to help viewers who are interested only in a specific country.

I also spent time in Bogota and in the Boyaca region. Overall intinerary: London - Leticia - Bogota - Villavincenzio - Rio Negro - Puerto Inirida - Bogota (incl Nemocon) - Villa de Leyva - Tunja - Bogota - London.
