The lighting wasn't what I wanted but I figured I'd choose one photo from this shoot. I have bought a boom arm now so I hope that will work in the future.

I will absolutely respect the right of anyone wishing to maintain their distance or continue wearing as mask as the protective measures continue to wind down in the UK. Sadly I know that there will be a portion of society out there willing to make life hellish for those still wishing to distance and wear masks outdoors.
Stay safe everyone - we are not safe until everyone is safe!
his fist raised, his eyes hidden behind mirrored lenses — but the story is there, refracted and doubled. in the narrow glass ovals, the street unfolds again: flags, faces, resistance. this man wears not only symbols but history itself — his mask a flag, his gaze a mirror of movement. here, protest becomes portrait, and the act of seeing becomes a gesture of belonging. it's not just what he sees — it's who sees through him.

“Oh baby baby it's a wild world
It's hard to get by just upon a smile”
I think the lyrics ring pretty true right now, but I did like the positive message of the poster.

Face masks are part of the street scene this fall. However, as the name suggests, they belong on the face and not on the floor or anywhere else. Is it really that difficult to dispose of the masks in a garbage can after use?

A number of studies, the latest by The Lancet, have found that current smokers are significantly less likely to catch the coronavirus. Even those in at risk groups such as the obese and diabetics have a greatly reduced chance of catching COVID if they are current smokers. Ex-smokers don't have any reduction in risk at all. There is uncertainty as to the reason but the most plausible hypothesis is that inhaled nicotine binds to the ACE-2 receptors that coronavirus exploits and therefore prevents a higher viral load from getting in. Don't all rush for the cigarettes though! The double-edged sword is that if smokers do catch this virus, the already damaged lungs mean that they are statistically more likely to suffer serious disease and require intensive medical care.
The Lancet study is a very interesting read if you are that way inclined. Thought I would share one of the weirder and unexpected aspects of this novel coronavirus. There is still so much to learn. Stay safe everyone!

I hate that term, 'new normal', but this is street photography during a pandemic. Face coverings, masks and a loss of so much expression, that very expression that drives my photography. I remember back to my last street photography session before lockdown, back in March, where I was masked on the train into Glasgow and an old man sitting opposite looked at me and cried. He told me that he was afraid that we would be, and I paraphrase, living in a world without visible smiles. Take care everyone!
