3 km from the center of O Carballiño is the Arenteiro Ethnographic Park. This constitutes an extension of the municipal park and has several examples of natural and architectural heritage. In this park we will find two restored mills: the Muiño das Lousas with its picturesque bridge and the Muiño do Anxo, as well as an old paper factory that is being restored to house a museum dedicated to the manufacture of this material at the end of the 19th century. Also located in this park is the municipal campsite that has several palloza-shaped bungalows, a fish farm and the Pena dos Namorados. The park has several wooden walkways that allow us to comfortably explore the most picturesque corners of the place located on the banks of the Arenteiro River.
The O Carballiño Municipal Park is a 32-hectare recreational area located between the residential zone and the Arenteiro River. In it we can find beautiful areas of trees, paths, bridges, as well as a more urbanized area made up of squares and pedestrian avenues. The park extends from the Great Spa to the Fish Farm. This park is next to the Arenteiro Ethnographic Park, located on the other bank of the river, where we can visit several restored mills, the Paper Museum and the Pena dos Namorados. In this park, the Festa do Pulpo is celebrated every year on the second Sunday in August, a pilgrimage par excellence of O Carballiño and one of the most popular and renowned gastronomic events in Galicia.
O Carballiño is a town situated in the far northwest of the province of Ourense, crossed by the course of the Arenteiro river.
An area inhabited since the Neolithic period, it was during the Middle Ages, when the Cistercian monks of Oseira settled here, that the region's economic development began.
A genuine symbol of the city, the Temple of Veracruz, the work of the architect Antonio Palacios, is a splendid example of contemporary architecture. A harmonious blend of the Byzantine, pre-Romanesque, Romanesque and Gothic styles can be appreciated in the building's design. Other points of interest are the hill-fort remains of San Cibrán de Las, the Galician country house of the Quiroga family and Santa Baia de Banga, a Romanesque gem which houses beautiful multi-coloured mural paintings (16th century).
