More than 600 third-grade students in Autauga County attended the Farm Safety Day sponsored by Extension at the county's Agricultural Center in Autaugaville Dec. 11. Students rotated through 18 stations where they learned about Alabama-grown commodities and how to stay safe in a variety of situations. Stations included the Autauga County Young Farmers, the American Goat Federation, catfish, forest products, bee & honey, tractor displays, disability, chemical safety and hidden hazards, among others.

Susan Garey, Animal Science Extension Agent and a group of expert volunteers and camp counselors held a day-and-a-half overnight cow camp to hone skills for youth involved in FFA, 4-H and who are also Junior Showman at the Delaware State Fair. Some campers have access to cows on their family farm, others lease them for a year, or in some instances, borrow to take care of a heifer during the camp. Experienced or not, these young campers enjoy the opportunity to get to know their calves, learn about biosecurity, animal welfare, advocating their personal ag story, animal health, grooming and showmanship. Estudiantes avanzados compartieron sus experiencias como directores de extensión
Además se evaluaron 34 proyectos de extensión.
Se reunió en Villaguay el Consejo de Extensión de nuestra Universidad para trabajar en la admisibilidad de Proyectos de Extensión, Actividades Culturales para Facultades y Centros de Estudiantes y Proyectos de Extensión dirigidos por Estudiantes Avanzados en el marco de la convocatoria 2016.
Las nueve facultades presentaron proyectos, sumando un total de 34, de los cuales fueron admitidos directamente 21, 12 admitidos con sugerencias y 1 no admitido.
La Admisibilidad de los proyectos se realizó en dos instancias, una virtual a través de video conferencias y la presencial, realizada en Villaguay el lunes 18 de abril.
Las reuniones fueron presididas por el Secretario de Extensión Universitaria y Cultura, Daniel De Michele.
Estuvieron presentes los Secretarios de Extensión de las facultades de Ciencias Agropecuarias, Carlos Toledo; de Ciencias de la Alimentación, Guido Roda; de Bromatología, José Dorati; de Ciencias Económicas, Silvina Ferreyra; de Ciencias de la Educación, Juan Manuel Giménez, de Ingeniería; en representación de Pedro Tomiozzo se hizo presente Gretel Ramírez; Alejandra Blanc de Trabajo Social y de Ciencias de la Salud, José Luis Leguiza.
Por otra parte se realizó la presentación de 5 de los 7 proyectos de Extensión dirigidos por Estudiantes Avanzados durante el 2015.
Estuvieron presentes los equipos de:
Impulsando emprendedurismo en el Volcadero de Paraná, de la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas.
Destino final de envases de plaguicidas: una propuesta de intervención en el territorio, de la Facultad de Ciencias Agropecuarias.
Aprendiendo Juntos. Apoyo escolar desde la educación popular, de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Educación.
Sabor a mamá. Lactancia Materna en Centro Integrador Comunitario Gualeguaychú, de la Facultad de Bromatología.
Herramientas comunicacionales para promoción de la salud en la población del municipio de Oro Verde, de la Facultad de Ingeniería.
Además, durante el 2015 se desarrollaron Yogurito Escolar. Programa de contención, asistencia y capacitación técnica, de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Alimentación y Alimentación saludable y buenas prácticas de higiene en las escuelas mediante talleres y actividades lúdicas de la Facultad de Bromatología.
