*portrait from memory of the richest lady of Changuinolla: Originally from Cuba, spoke several languages incl. russian, owned a bar and a "Gentlemen's club" in 1956, in 1983 the place was torn down and a real estate office stood in its place. Donna, I was told retired, invested and lived in splendor in Baranquilla. Why she wore black stockings in the tropical heat of that place, i will never know. LOL, the stuff, we remember when old.
p.s. Donna is best viewed on black. /this is not the first time i have painted her; it is the fastest! LOL
*a poets postcard
"I have something to tell you.
I am listening.
I am dying.
I am sorry to hear.
I am growing old.
That is terrible.
It is, I thought you should know.
Of course and I'm sorry. Keep in touch.
Will do and you too.
And let me know what is new.
Certainly, though it can't be much.
And stay well.
And you too.
And go slow.
And you too.

*in this set we, once again explore the ancient art and study of our dreams, their hidden meaning and the art of healing by painting the images as we recollect them.
They have little to do with "art", for anyone can draw them in the most childish of forms. I have chosen to paint mine in the style of "arte macnudo" invented by the great artist Barbaro Rivas and my dear departed friend Isaac Benitez who gave his life exploring the world of dreams in art at a much too early stage of his life; both artists were erroneously labeled "primitive" a insult for they were far ahead of their time.
It was in the late 60's that a false prophet and con man wrote a book on mimd expansion of dreams /altered states/ by the introduction of a "harmless" drug he called L.S.D. This "Guru" by the name of Timothy Leary persuaded millions of young Americans into believing in "mind expansion", to live in a dream world, /state of bliss/ claiming that ones dreams can be "artificially" brought to the forefront by the application by his "harmless" use of his drug.
Millions followed his advise not realizing that the daily dose of this drug was nothing but a temporary fix no different than any other recreational drug, and had nothing to do with learning to understand our dreams and much less to help us to lead more satisfying and fulfilling lives, never leading to the analysis of one's dreams, much less healing
which in reality was only a temporary fix no different than any other "recreational drug or the use of alcohol to excess'
The "harmless" use of this "dream-world state" often called "mind expansion" drug has led to a generation of unfunctioning, sexless beings best described as "Zombies" and exploited in recent films and mass runs.
The better understanding of our dreams can help us to escape from the demons that trap our minds and help us escape from the debilitating brainwash /lavado cerebral/ inbred believe that we may not be worthy of love and happiness on this earth, focusing all ends to the "other world. after our departure. In other words living our lives in perpetual anxiety and punishing us for our daily "sins" Tis malice if not identified through the understanding of our dreams may last a life time depriving us from living our lives to the fullest. depriving us from living our lives of love and happiness on earth
Thanks to the native artists of the Carribean and Central America we learn how anyone can unravel the mystery that surrounds our dreams, what they mean and how we can our potential to that led to the "depicting", drawing and ultimately the understanding of the true meaning behind our dreams.
Words can not describe what goes on in the subconscious, much less offer understanding.
The natives in their "primitive" ways found their ways into the labyrinth of the mind long ago by drawing pictures of what they felt while in their dreamworld. Thus they opened the doors to the "otro mundo quiero comenzar" /another world I will begin" which is brilliantly recited in the famous Cumbia by Alfred Gutierrez*
To understand and to put to practice this ancient process of healing, we need to take the time to record our dreams in the way best suited to us, that is to draw them regardless how silly they may seem at first. This visual imagery drawn from within will help us to open the doors to the unconscious our demons have so long "brainwashed" /lavado cerebral/** us into believing.
For those interested in this in this subject explored in art further I suggest visiting my artist friend Diane Kramer who has explored this subject brilliantly in her: "Rooted in Intuition":

Edvard Munch (1863–1944) was one of the most famous Expressionist Norwegian painters. His style, known as symbolism, which mainly focused on life, love, anxiety, and loneliness played a significant role in the late 20th-century art, especially in German expressionism. The dark color and somber tones, the exaggerated forms, and the contrasting lines in his designs portrayed his psychological state. His most iconic artwork, The Scream (1893), which depicts the agonized face and radical expressions, symbolizes anxiety, one of human's most common psychological conditions. We have digitally enhanced some of his notable works from the public domain and made them available for you to download under the creative commons 0 license.

*depicting a business deal between Czechs and Germans over a splendid meal at the Hradcin Castle in 1942; the sale of the Czech Jews. My original title: "a business deal not to be forgotten" It is best viewed on black
p.s. of course it had to be done in abstract!
*detail, acrylics on gesso covered illustration boards 30" X 56" not quite dry, colors will darken; will repost with set when completed.
p.s. I am not much into nudes, but set is turning out better than expected hence my decision to share it with my flickr. friends. Hope you like it as well as we do!
*as per Guido Moretti: "feeding off one another without ever getting to know the other yet both pissing and crapping the same "modern art"

crossing the river /cruzando el rio/ is one way to detach without surgery/could be the solution as per Celso Pina
between the years of 1962 through 1970, I served as elected program director of "Aficionados de los Angeles, a bullfight aficionado club of which I was a member since 1957. During this time, I have attended hundreds of performances, taken many photographs and films. My participation in club activities has put me in contact with many artists, /mostly writers, musicians and and even famous movie stars. Those, few, that are still alive, will recall this period as "Days of Wine and Roses". Since the title of my following set coincides with the date a movie came out that has nothing to do with what i am about to post, I decided, to call this set as "Days of Wine and Roses" It combines, photographs, paintings and drawings with a new set of watercolors, commenced earlier this month.
p.s. I am perfectly aware that bullfighting in America is taboo and despised by most for it's cruelty to animals, hence I promise not to post anything directly to that spectacle. Some of the people depicted have led most interesting lives and it is that, that this set is all about; many who over the years have become friends of family as well.
I also wish to remind everyone viewing this set, that the same artists, including myself, smoked cigarettes and most woman of means wore fur coats to the bullfights even in the heat of summer as a status symbol.
* literally translated: "the gate keeper" awaits the signal of the judge who waves a white handkerchief for the trumpet blower to announce the buls entry into the ring.
"at that precise moment it is essential for one to close the eyes for a second and proceed to make the sign of the cross before taking one single step out of the callejon, once "blessed" by the "Virgin of the Macarena" there is absolutely nothing to fear providing one has confessed, taken communion the night before and come "clean" to the Lord."
"For those that think that they can face the bulls "alone" "los advierto" /unranslatable,
insted of facing a " fighting bull" they will encounter "el diablo" the devil, and instead being delivered to heaven /in case of accident/ you will burn in hell for all eternity"
PS this translated from Spanish from my notes on bullfighting, in a lecture given to us by Salomon Vega, Gitanillo, in the 1950's.
The "ritual" of the bullfight is not a sport nor is it supposed to be a circus act, in all its "simplicity" it is a ritual and "religeous" sacrifice of a "living being" since the earliest of recorded history.
*as recited by Gabriella San Turce-Morilla, /maiden name/ to a Saeta.
Sonambulo
Compadre, quiero morir
decentemente en mi cama.
De acero, si pede ser,
con las sabanas de holanda.
No ves la herida que tengo
desde el pecho a al garganta?
Trescientas rosas morenas
lleva tu pechera blanca.
Tu sangre rezuma y huele
alrededor de tu faja.
Pero yo ya no soy yo,
ni mi casa es ya mi casa.
Dejadme subir al menos
hasta las barandas;
Dejadme subir!, Dejadme
hasta las verdes barandas.
Barandales de la luna
Por donde retumba el agua.
Federico Garcia Lorca excerto
loosely translated:
"Friend I would like to die respectably in my own bed; if possible with Dutch linens, as a man of property. Can't you see my friend, the wound I have, from my breast to my throat?
Three hundred dark red roses, your white shirt front bears. Your blood is oozing, reeking all around your sash!
But I am not myself any longer, nor my house or anything in it.
Let me go up, just once more I beg of you, up to the green porch to see the moon and listen to trickle of the water running."

* from photograph with handwritten note on back: "SS Gruppenfuhrer,Dr.Prof. Carl Clauberg in Russischer gefangenschaft" from artist's collection. The infamous doctor and professor of gynecology earned his nickname "the beast" for the horrific experiments he conducted on mostly jewish women inmates at various concentration camps. Hundreds of "volunteer" inmates who "consented' to sterilization suffered unbearable pain when they received the "treatment" by having Dr.Clauberg pour liquid acid into their uterus without anesthetics. Several hundred were outright killed by his orderlies so they could be autopsied. There were many other horrific crimes of a sexual nature, committed by "the beast" the well deserved nickname given him by his peers!
The painting was part of my doctors of death exhibit held at the Texas State University art gallery in 1985. A slide presentation and several lectures followed.
p.s. the title of "beast" was bestowed on him in a humorous fashion by his own staff who would honor him with this most brutal of description of a person, endearingly and with admiration for his "aloofness under duress" For his unbelievable brutality he was awarded the Iron cross, second class in 1944
* from a set of several paintings in progress inspired by a posting by she wolf titled: "the lace behind the door" and a poem titled: "windows to the soul" by Carol Wiebe. In the set i am attempting to depict an artist's rental studio that transforms itself into the soul of the artist hiding nothing. A room where only ghosts are given free reign during nights and where the morning sun chases them away and all becomes strangely tranquil.
"Windows to the soul"
Has the truth been told?
Or have the words been carefully chosen
to match
what others expect to hear?
If we were not afraid,
if we could fling open our doors and windows,
throw away the curtains,
and live transparently.
Carol Wiebe, may 22, 2011

*painted numerous times while regretfully listened to a recording directed by Wlhelm Furtwangler of the Vienna Philharmonic. The painting on paper measuring 20"x30" is the best of the bunch even though I must admit to looks as if painted with excrement. personally, have always felt repelled by this horrific piece of garbage for it reminded me of the victory marches and parades of the Germans as they marched into my home town followed by the plunder and murder of innocent civilians, woman and children included, virtually wiping out my mothers entirely unpolitical family.

* the above was e-mailed to me last november by Eric Swenson who felt that I may be interested to do some drawings from photographs of this brilliant dancer of the Royal Danish Ballet performing "Jeux de Massacre" naked, not to be admired for his nudity but rather as a protest against rising fascism in Europe. I have just recently opened last years e-mails from strangers for which I apologize. I am presently involved in other projects, am not familiar with this performance but as you know have always been interested in dance, painting and literature exposing the evil of fascism wherever it emerges.
p.s. I understand that the entire company appeared nude as recently as 1994 in Copenhagen, those of you who follow ballet performances may wish to add comments.

*Over the years I have sold or traded much of my art with other artists.
I am presently in the process of scanning some of this art and sharing it with my flickr. friends. None of the renderings have been shown or posted before. I am told that even though the art no longer belongs to us, the "image" does, based on that we decided to scan these sets with the intend to have some of them published in my "The Art of Stefan Krikl" book which we have been working on for sometime.
p.s I have left off names of owners, titles, media and sizes of art depicted. Should anyone wish more information i will gladly comply by e-mail.
Thank you!
* The honeymoon suite came with a "water bed" /a rubber mattress filled with real water/ and a giant T,V. /not one of those thin ones but one that sat on the floor and took half an hour to shut off./ and yes, it did have a coin operated mini 45rpm disc machine playing a song by the "Eagles" named after the Hotel, the year was 1977.
p.s. for those interested, the lyrics to their song describes the atmosphere to a "T"

*from a set of several in the process: "artist at work" from start to finish of a painting where artist becomes director and producer of a work of art; equally to that of a movie or stage director hoping to create a work of art. The cooperation between artist and model being of paramount importance. The above the "set up" is #1 of series and it is done with authentic Bukuju ink, latex and acrylics on arches paper, each measuring: 20"x30", the set is best viewed on black
*the colors in this set were made from dicarted tea bags, coffee, blue berries and other natural substances.
* while working on my illustration set and looking up old recordings from my youth I came across an old classic played on accordion by one of my best friends of my youth the great composer, cante hondo singer and guitarist Iberio Qinzada, while listening to "tutti frutti" the image of that great musician playing his accordion popped out and here he was alive and well playing for his friends in the tavern "puerta del sol"
p.s. wherever he went, his guitar went with him, but it was the accordion that made people listening to him cry. Tutti frutti, being on the light side.
found this rare clip from one of the best gypsy films of all times with the timeless classic: "tutti frutti"youtu.be/_TjGQbUz36Q
p.s. all the movies were made with 16mm film by family members and friends and recorded on radio cassettes. Films such as these, in the early 70's were called "underground" for few people wanted to see them. Most were expressionistic in nature and all were musically sprinkled. I still prefer viewing them to the mainstream films

*Simon Galvez spend over twenty years /when I met him in the early sixties/ as dishwasher and later assistant cook at Ranchito restaurant in Los Angeles, California. He was an ardent and talented amateur bullfighter and beloved story teller. In 1965 I was elected program director of "Los Aficionados de Los Angeles" /a pena taurina club/ and I selected Simon to become my assistant, a brilliant scholar in the art of tauromaquia,.After many years practicing and perfecting his art with heifers and cows an opportunity arouse in 1965 for him to appear in a bullfight with fully matured bulls weighing as much as 1000Lbs. after the scheduled matador was gored the week before. Simon was very excited but voiced his concern what would happen to his family of eight children and his than again pregnant wife, should something happen to him, but we all encouraged him to go for this once in a lifetime opportunity to fight a real toro bravo for we all had confidence in his ability to deal with the bull and so we all prepared for the the journey to Mexico, most of us in our own cars or caravans. Simon and his family traveled in their Chevy truck until it broke down near Rosarito where his family was to stay. The following day of the scheduled fight, Simon without transportation, was offered the ride back to Tijuana by his cousin, a taxi driver, who worked the night shift before but volunteered the drive with less than an hour of sleep. Twenty minutes into the drive, they were hit by a wrong side driver head on, ejecting Galvez and breaking his neck as he hit the concrete divider killing him instantly, neither the wrong side driver, who was drunk "as a skunk" nor the taxi driver were seriously hurt.
In the meantime the scheduled fight went on with the huge bull named "Costillares" going to a "sobresaliente" bullfighter who was gored the minute the bull came out of the pen, several others tried unsuccessfully to cape and prick him into submission, only to infuriate him further causing much havoc in the ring. after a half hour of pure agony and over twenty attempts to kill him and after the last aviso sounded, "Costillares" was meekly escorted by a cow out of the ring.
I understand that he recovered from his many stabs and lived in retirement for many more years among the happy cows.
from stories of the "behind the scenes of the arena" by the artist
*the above is my interpretation of the greatest love poem ever written: Julio Cortazar's "Rayuela" which has recently been properly translated into english for the first time and can be heard on You tube, recited by the revolutionary Julio Cortazar himself. youtu.be/UvQOzyVW5JQ
p.s. "Rayuela" is part of my "amor brutale" watercolor set now in progress; it is best seen against black.
*makes no sense at all, for the aquarium is populated by tropical fish and all the sharks were on the outside.
*in reference to the prayer all matadors pray upon entering the bull ring: "La Virgen de la Macarena" also the name of a famous paso doble /double-pass/ dance.
This lovely portrait is best seen on black!
*literally translated: "waiting to be taken out" * in reference to the removal of a killed bull by a team of mules or horses dressed for the occasion with trappings, feathers and assorted adornments to the tune of a funeral march if he was "good" and silence if just so-so.
The above is the moment after a puntillero /bullfight butcher/ has administered the coupe de grace" with his dagger from behind the bulls head, in a most cowardly fashion and completely ignored as if it never happened.
*Over the years we have witnessed hundreds of "kills" by competent matadors only to have the bulls put out of their misery by a butcher from behind, for as they say "no one just dies" even after being killed.
