*the portrait has been attempted many times before, never achieving the desired results. This is the result of dozens of drawings on paper which include his "other" personality that we have experienced when he was in a rage. It is a bit dark and may be difficult to see but his good side fortunately came out well.

Pictured at this week's Private View of a unique vibrant exhibition in central London, expressionist artist Stephen B Whatley is pictured with two of the guests, star of stage and screen, Siân Phillips CBE( one of Whatley's favourite portrait-sitters; painted in 1997) & her close friend, London osteopath, Fabi Waisbort.

The ever-elegant actress, a lady of great warmth and tenderness, chose to be photographed beneath her favourite painting in the show, The Passion of Christ, painted on Good Friday 2003.

Staged at the grand Rectory of St James's Church, Spanish Place, at 22 George Street, London W1 Paintings From Prayer (which runs from 17 April until 18 May 2013) is a powerful exhibition of 19 works of art, painted with great passion in prayer, that span over a decade of artistic expressions of faith - all never before exhibited.

They include iconic depictions of Baby Jesus (painted on Christmas Day 2000), devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary ( including Our Lady of Guadalupe & Our Lady of Lourdes) & several Saints; from such traditionally loved as , St Mary Magdalene, St Anthony and St Clare of Assisi to lesser known as St Lucy, Patron Saint of the Blind, and St Kateri Tekakwitha - the first Native American Saint.

Also on show for the first time is Whatley's 2010 popular painting, The Sacred Heart of Jesus; and his Glory of Christ, painted Easter Day 2008.

All of the paintings can be seen online throughout this photostream.

These modern Catholic icons shine out from the grand walls like lights and most are available to purchase; with 30% of proceeds being devoted to St James's Church.

The visitors book is already being inscribed with overwhelmed compliments...come and take the opportunity to be uplifted. One great admirer of the artist's work, the writer Erin Brierley of Georgia USA - and owner of Whatley's 2011 painting of St Therese of Lisieux - wrote to the artist from America,

"....it can be overwhelming to take all your work together, for example, if you look at all the paintings at once, you see all the life and colour going on, but it's when you really contemplate each one, really concentrating and letting it draw you in (Ruth's words, she kept saying your paintings just 'draw you in') that you begin to see the genius and the presence of God in each one, the layer upon layer of symbolism and mysticism, really. They really are icons in a modern form, because as I've said before, they are more than paintings, they are windows through which we glimpse into heaven, and Heaven smiles back at us. "

*SS Unterscharfuhrer Wulik Pravenischkiss and Jewess named Lietuva Feiga were secret lovers at the notorious concentration camp Kautering near Dachau in Germany, in 1944, after the murder of 2000 children in which Pravenischkiss participated, he summoned Lietuva for sexual relations, during the encounter in which he brutalized her, she slid his face from ear to ear with a smuggled razor blade. Lietuva was hung at the appel the next morning and "Wulik" after he was stitched up was shot the following month for having had relations with a "jewess"

Edvard Munch (1863–1944) was one of the most famous Expressionist Norwegian painters. His style, known as symbolism, which mainly focused on life, love, anxiety, and loneliness played a significant role in the late 20th-century art, especially in German expressionism. The dark color and somber tones, the exaggerated forms, and the contrasting lines in his designs portrayed his psychological state. His most iconic artwork, The Scream (1893), which depicts the agonized face and radical expressions, symbolizes anxiety, one of human's most common psychological conditions. We have digitally enhanced some of his notable works from the public domain and made them available for you to download under the creative commons 0 license.

*from the "Cendero Luminoso" /shining path/ series, now in progress

a painting titled "the murder of comrade Nora" posted on may 20th of this year is connected to this painting for those interested!

*original concept called for eight illustrations for eight short stories; since it did not materialize, have placed them all in one; not sure if it works, for they are unrelated.

*from real life experiences; my Magli loafers purchased at Neiman Marcus in 1976, are the most comfortable loafers I ever owned; they will be 35 years old this fall and even thou the heels are all but gone and they are splashed with many shades of red color, /mostly/ they are my most priced possessions.

p.s. this plug is not paid by anyone; it is my wholehearted genuine endorsement for Magli's artistry.

p.s.2, I have had the pleasure of meeting this brilliant artist in 1978 at a showing of his shoes in Dallas, Texas.

*This set is ased on the book originally titled: "cosi imparano a fare" /my interpretation/ /not film/ by the painter, poet and later screenplay writer Mario Bava, the son of Eugenio Bava /noted sculptor/ After many attempts to exhibit his abstract and highly original art without success, running out of money, Mario went to work for his father at his studio in Venice, on a rare visit to his studio, Benito Mussolini saw some of his bloody paintings on the walls, impressed by what he saw, he was offered a position in Mussolini's propaganda film studio where he flourished becoming later what many would describe as the best cameraman and director of the 20th century.

So taken by his "surreal" film which I saw as so many other artists the world over in the 70's that I applied "his effects" on practically all of my paintings of 1970-1971, which I will post at the end of the series.

p.s. on a note of interest, the film was shortly released in the U.S. under the title : "Bay of Blood" but banned for it's brutality from showings, it was recut and re-released on video which was banned as well, until it became a poor version of the original surreal film and classified as a "horror" flick from which practically all formula B horror films are made today.

Here is the link to the trailer for his original film which I found on you-tube:

'A twisting CurI', metallic wire sculptor, a spatial sketch I made in 2005 to experience for myself the organic line in space - which I was looking for in my painting art, to find the spatial element there. Size of the small spatial indoor wire sculpture on wood is 35 x 25 cm.

This digital free image of my art I placed here in high resolution on Flickr, in the public domain. I edited it digitally with great care for the hues, colors and texture of the original work. So it is available in free download, to use it for making your own fine quality art-print for at home on the wall if you like.

Please let me know in return when you do. Tell me if you like this specific work of mine. It gives me just a nice feeling to hear when one piece of my art is being enjoyed by other people.

kind regards,

Abstract art design from The Netherlands; a free picture of my original abstract sculpture - for making a high-resolution & free download print - placed by me here for free in the public domain / Commons CCO, artist Fons Heijnsbroek.

The above set is inspired by the greatest metal and wire abstract-expressionist sculptor Julio Gonzalez who taught metal sculpting to Picasso and who's work I have seen at the Los Angeles Museum of art in the 60's. His "woman combing her hair" still stands out in my memory as if I had seen it only yesterday, it,s simple pose served me hundreds of times drawing nudes in this pose over the years. In this set, I am trying to depict modern man as he through his deceit, /the bullfighters cape/ lures his prey into his proximity so as to control him into total domination rejoicing in his arrogance and so sure of himself that he forgets that he too is at great risk of being gored sooner or later.

p.s. on a note of interest; the pencil thin arms and legs, have been borrowed by a another long forgotten sculptor named Alberto Giacometti, who inspired my earlier miniature plaster carving set titled "Matador" not yet posted on flickr. but will do so if enough interest is shown in this set.

Thank you.

* Von Schnauzer and Steven H, On this one had to literally put myself in the crate, not a pleasant prospect with a mad dog pulling at you. The ones with dog turned out sort of funny, and since the subject was serious, have settled on this one with the character settling into a relaxed mode.

I mean, what else is there to do in such a situation.

* / "the crazy life of artists" set consists of many paintings and drawings that were commenced on may 9, after moving my studio outdoors. This set is inspired by the "en plein air" artists of Los Angeles who work day and night /mostly at night/ in the barrios of Los Angeles. Their method of painting consists in the use of bright colored enamel spray paints. To imitate their quick spray paint strokes, I am using 1",2',3" house paint brushes taped to broom sticks which allow me fast strokes resembling those achieved with spray cans. The subject matter is drawn from my experiences as an "artist'. Not that of a business man and family man. They are done to taped music favored by our artist friends of the 60's through 80's.

*from a collection of old watercolors recently found in my garden shed, most were all stuck together and moldy; I have placed them in a tub of warm water to see if they would come undone; those posted, did, and this is the result . All continue to be molded and need to be burned after posting for they continue to be a health hazard when brought into the house. The above, portrait was made into several paintings which came out rather well even though each came out differently. Have no clue why I have them; perhaps wanting to do different portraits at a later date. Sketches and studies can be great tools to make further art from, but should not be made with water based colours. /the black spots on above are mould/ .Mould is a living organism that keeps alive and growing and will never die. Symptoms caused by mold are allergies, cause watery and itchy eyes, a chronic cough, headaches or migraines, difficulty breathing, rashes, tiredness, sinus problems, nasal blockage and frequent sneezing. Symptoms that can been be triggered as well, by simply viewing old paintings without mould that bring bad memories, the above man's portrait being one of them.

*from my notes on incident as recorded in the daily activity report, Prague, Gestapo file, 30,september,1942: "Curda der jezt Jerhot heist, ubergibt Gabcik's enthaupten Kopf unserem chef Hans Geschke." "Der Kopf wurde spater Karl Hans in einer Flasche Alcohol ubergaben"

loosely translated: Curda who's name is now being changed to Jerhot, has delivered the severed head of of Mr, Gabcik to our boss, who in turn gave it to Dr. Karl Hans Frank, the newly appointed "Protector" of Bohemia and Moravia /governor/ , in a jar of alcohol. The severed head, after the war, found it,s way to Latin America, where it was sold to an American archeology collector in 1948* Gabcik was not so innocent, for he confessed harboring the "bandits" who assassinated Reinhardt Heydrich, Curda, the guy who brought the head in, was one of the original bandits, who "sold" out his buddies to save his own neck and led the SS to their hideaway in a church. Hitler originally requested a thousand Czechs heads cut off but settled for only a dozen which included the priest and the Bishop of the district. As retribution, Hitler ordered two entire towns raised and it's inhabitants send to concentration camps where they eventually died. Their children, since they were aryan and racially acceptable "specimen's" ,were turned over to social services to be distributed free of charge to Nazi families.

* "matador" painted in 1973 and posted with permission of owners was part of the series of paintings titled "Tauromaquia" build around the than unpopular theme of bullfighting, it was well received and most of the paintings were sold.

It is best seen in light box.

*#3 of three postings, transl. "Santa Maria-Magdalena. patron saint of redeemed sinners, bricklayers, aspiring bullfighters and hairdressers became a devout follower of Jesus after he cured her of an illness caused by the devil. There are several cumbias and coplas that sing her praises and tell how she so lovingly washed Jesus' feet with her tears, drying them with her long hair and than pouring scented ointment over them.

Magdalena on becoming Maria-Magdalena, after Jesus' mother's name, was at the crucifixion, and after two days she went to see the tomb where Jesus was buried, on finding it empty she cried and while she cried Jesus appeared to her telling her not to cry, for he would soon ascend to heaven and would she pass the word.

Some time later Maria-Magdalena securing passage to France, converting many people to Christianity. After her return, she spend the last thirty years of her life in the desert, where she was fed by angels.

In my mixed media rendering I have taken the liberty to borrow a wafer thin 24kt. gold plated halo belonging to Madonna Penosa and placing it behind her head. Madonna Penosa the daughter of Madonna Viventi statue was given to me by a friend in 1978. The 7" inch wafer thin halo was in use only during the shoot of this picture which took less than one minute.

This painting is a copy /from memory/ from a commissioned painting my mother did in 1949 in the style of "arte macanudo" for the owners of a traveling circus. I do recall that in her version, Magdalena held in her right hand a jar of vaseline as ordered by the patron. We never found out the symbolism behind the cream, but since it had a name on the jar, we presume that the circus owner may have used it as advertising for some healing potion they were selling.
