Painted live during the Affordable Art Fair in Brussels
The National Theatre of Scotland has been working with S3 pupils (aged 13/14) at Kilwinning Academy to produce an exhibition of photographs called First Time You Saw Me.
During weeks of workshops, a delightful group of people from NTS have been helping the children to find a way of expressing themselves in a few words and then finding an interesting way to present that text. I was called in to take the pictures last week: here is one of them.
Joni was reluctant to appear in front of the camera, so when it was suggested that her text should read "I don't like getting my picture taken", this idea came immediately to mind.

Na sabedoria popular, "andar na corda bamba" é a metáfora perfeita para definir a vivência de uma situação delicada ou arriscada, em que a margem de erro é inexistente e onde qualquer passo em falso pode desencadear consequências irreversíveis.
A obra-prima digital apresentada por Mário Silva converte essa metáfora linguística numa experiência visual crua, visceral e profundamente humana.

A pintura não retrata um mero espetáculo circo-teatral; capta o estado de espírito de quem enfrenta a incerteza da vida.
O homem vestido de vermelho — cor que evoca tanto o perigo como a paixão e a vitalidade — encontra-se suspenso entre dois mundos: abaixo, a solidez fria da cidade e o abismo da queda; acima e em redor, o caos emocional representado pelas pinceladas revoltas do céu.

Yesterday I was browsing through my old photo galleries and found this image, whcih I had forgotten for too long. I like his expression and the background as well; is out of focus but if you look carefully there are water pipes dropping water (nice kind of bokeh coming from the drops) and this man was there to wash his stoves. Unfortunately the image is far from being perfect, is a tad blurry or at least not as sharp as I wished. Still like it with its flaws.
