As the sandy and soft soil has been eroded away over the years , the root system of this old tree offers some beautiful shapes and forms.
Have a lovely day, folks! :)

Almost 70 years ago, on 3rd November 1948, a US Airforce Boeing RB-29 Superfortress descended through cloud on its planned approach to Burtonwood air force base just west of Manchester near Warrington. It had only been a short flight from the RAF bomber base at Scampton but they had flown into strong headwinds. The navigator must have misjudged the strength of the wind, and without being able to see the ground, estimated that they were already over Manchester and should descend through the cloud ready for landing. The 13 crew on board probably never saw the raised moorland around Higher Shelf Stones, 2000 feet up on Bleaklow, as the aircraft crashed into the hillside. All on board perished in the impact which scattered parts of the large aircraft over a considerable area.
Today much of the aircraft is still visible but is slowly decomposing in the harsh landscape. Much of the aluminium skin of the aircraft is corroding and being washed away by the heavy rainfall or blown away as dust on the strong winds that are a feature of that exposed place. Some may have sunk into the boggy peat.
It's ironic the aircraft had been nick named "Over exposed", the aircraft's nose art depicting a naked blonde, now that it lies very naked and exposed on the hillside. It's a sombre place, a memorial to the men who died there. And a sad end to an aircraft that must have flown around the world, many times, including missions to Bikini Atoll in the Pacific to photograph some of the atom bomb tests.

Triple exposure fun. Beautiful amaryllis flowers with an old post card from Trudy's aunt and a yacht on Welly harbour. This image has much meaning for me as all the photos relate to specific memories. I hope it is pleasing on the eye to all who view. I'd love to hear some constructive criticism too as I slowly learn my way around photoshop. Thanks!
Back in the summer of 1995, I was exposing oddles of K64 on Cedar Rapids and Iowa City's road job.
Where else in the Midwest could a solid set of 1950s era motive power be chased on a daily basis? The sights and sounds of the past would soon be silenced by newer power and re-routes.

My third day on Seoul. A morning where I still hang in the surrounding neighborhoods "Gallery K" where I expose. Art seems to me here and everywhere, appearing in so many forms. Here too, as in Tokyo, buildings can be entirely dedicated to a single gallery. Water and gas on all floors. In one of them, where I would not cross a living soul on 4 floors. I will finish on his terrace to succumb to the intoxication of the place and the city. After a delicious lunch consisting mostly of a chicken cooked in broth, stuffed with flavored rice, I go to the Embassy of the United States, through building 119, just to take the temperature following the huge demonstration of the day before. Quiet flat, cops everywhere. There is also the huge royal palace of Gyeongbokgung. A place where everything is vast. Here the mystery is established step by step before your eyes. I will enter the next day and will even attend the lifting of his guard. A little later after a new shower at the hotel, I will resume my wandering walk in the night of Seoul. The GPS will be my compass in places that I can not name, sorry.

Cream and Crimson window decal representing Indiana University. The primary campus (9 total) is located here in Bloomington,IN. My parents, my spouse, my four daughters and I are alumni. My oldest granddaughter will likely enroll for the 2021 freshman class. (I assumed that āBlackā is not a color per se. The subject of Black/White as color is debated on the web with no true consensus.) The decal is on a dark rear widow of my MINI which I selectively under exposed to achieve the background.
Although it's not evident from the image itself, this was shot after sunset during some rather blustery conditions. Thankfully I found a wall that sheltered both me and my camera.
The location is somewhere on Lake Biwa, Japan.

This is about as hard as it can get I think for taking the long exposures. The thin band of light that is so dynamic against the remaining scene. When I exposed the 30 second exposure prior to this one and saw the histogram, I knew that adding a 4 stop ND I would be able to get about 4 minutes ... but this time of the morning can be tough as it continually is getting brighter by the minute. This I decided to end this one just after 3 minutes.
It was at least bright enough after this capture was done to hike back off the rocks without a flashlight ...
You can run, but you cannot hide
Light is being shone on the darkness
It is only when the darkness is exposed
That we can begin to heal
God Bless humanity
For courage to rise above
The evil and darkness that has
controlled the minds of men
Something to inspire
My piece of monkey puzzle tree burnt. Lit with a diffused flashgun from directly above on 1/32 power. Note to self. Ensure composition is bang on before setting something on fire as you don't get a second chance.
Cropped massively.

My bride and I pretty much always put a hummingbird feeder out at camp site when we set up. It's pretty amazing how fast the little critters will often find it, sometimes the day we set up. This little female (rufous, I believe) found it the morning after I set up and hung around all 4 days I was at Gold Lake in Plumas County California.
I shot this frame messing around a bit with the electronic shutter on my newest camera which is a mirrorless body. Shooting fast moving stuff with the electronic shutter doesn't always work because of a phenomenon known as "rolling shutter." Basically, the camera is actually capturing multiple frames simultaneously. It does this by capturing one line at a time from top to bottom of the sensor very quickly, but not quite as quickly as the actual exposure time (in this case 1/800 of a second). Therefore, unlike the normal mechanical shutter that opens pretty much all at once, exposes all at once, and closes, movement happens as different parts of the frame are exposed. This is fine for stationary subjects but generally undesirable for fast moving subjects and can result in some really freaky distortion (I got a couple frames where the bird turned and it looked like a wing was detached from the body). However, in the case of a bird on the wing while straight at the camera it can result in some interesting motion blur like I think happened here.
It's a year since I took up photography and with this thought I thought it would be fun to look through my past year's work this evening. I had hoped I would sit back in amusement and shake my head in a knowing manner. But instead, I'm now wondering if I've advanced in any way at all.
This image is out of focus, over exposed, and probably wouldn't turn any serious tog's head at all. But for all it's faults I feel it has far more clout than anything I've done since. Maybe it's just the fog? Well they do say anything looks good in the fog!!
I do miss my home at times....*SIGH!*
Thank you if you happened to have passed by :)

The exposed shoreline of Crowley Lake, California reveals hidden volcanic columns. In 1941 Long Valley Dam was commissioned by Los Angels to store water for the aqueduct. The resulting lake exposed columns along its shoreline. Only accessible by boat or lifted four wheel drive on a server rough dirt road. If you are able to witness this location I highly recommend seeing them up close. One of the many mysterious and unique locations of the Eastern Sierras. Captured from our 2024 Autumn in the Eastern Sierras Workshop #actionphototours.
You guessed it, I revisited this amazing sea sculpture for the last 4 days...irresistible.
