Oregon Ridge Park here in Baltimore County did three shows this weekend. We didn't make it to the July 3rd show and we weren't in the area for the July 4th show, but we made tonight's show.
I had promised Savanah and Kathy real fireworks this year and I was able to deliever. The weather was nice, with just enough wind to blow most of the smoke away. According to one of the park employees, last night's show wasn't that great. The humidity and lack of wind after the storm kept the smoke in the area.
Based on Oregon Ridge's schedule the fireworks were supposed to start around 9:45 so I figured we'd be OK if we left at 8:30. As a last minute thought we gave one of Savanah's friends a call right before we left. They were available so they came with us, which made it that much better for Savanah.
The show was good, but over the past few years I've noticed that at Oregon Ridge the fireworks have become more ground based. I used to watch the show from about a mile away and you could still see most of the show. I don't know if that is why they don't shoot them that high in the air anymore or if it is a safety thing for that area, but I have seen better shows. This show was nice and pretty impressive, just not what I'm used to from when I was a kid.
Hopefully next year we'll be able to catch the Annapolis show again. I've never been disappointed by their show and with my parents living down there, we have a semi-private dock to view from and the fireworks are launched from a barge just across the water. You get an incredible view from there.
It was a fun night though and the kids had a blast.
Library patrons celebrated the role chemistry plays in our world with chemical reactions, eye-catching displays and even some controlled explosions.

8june16 bishop--- High explosives destroy a vehicle during demolition training hosted by the Lorain County Bomb Squad. Cresw from all over Northeast Ohio were on hand for the trainging that happens 3-4 times a year.
This explosion was just over 1 ponud of high explosives.

This goes along with the one I just posted where I was pushed by jeezydeezy www.flickr.com/photos/47918941@N07/ to make an explosion photo. I even got my husband to go stand out in the driveway in the cold, and I used a tripod. There are all kinds of weird interpretations of this photo- like there's a little shadow of himself coming out of his heart, or steam blowing out his lower half- I think it is just bizarre. Explosion? Don't know. This is not photoshopped at all- just shows what strange results come from the long exposure zoom technique. I was not going to post this but my hubby was sad he didn't get to be famous on flickr! And it is kinda cool, on second look.
A branch fell on a power line outside our house. First explosion started a fire. The second explosion appears to have put the fire out but them we lost power. Kim called 911 over 15 minutes ago to report the fire and there has been no response

On August 12 at about 2300 hours there was an explosion in a warehouse containing dangerous goods belonging to the Ruihai company in Tianjin Binhai New District in which several hundred people were injured and thousands were affected. The disaster
was completely unexpected and has shocked every one of us. Xinjin district housing committee calls on residents to contribute money for victims, put out a helping hand and make every effort and that we link arms at this difficult time.

An unconfirmed gas explosion has demolished a house on Wright Street in Newark. Nottinghamshire fire service have confirmed that two adults and two children have been removed from the rubble with serious injuries and two adults are believed to be missing. rossparry.co.uk / Tom Maddick
