The monument commemorates the departure of explorer (Lord) John Forrest from Geraldton in 1874 on his journey of exploration to Central Australia. The memorial was unveiled in 1947, the centenary year of his birth.
John Forrest (1847 - 1918) rose to become Australia`s first native-born peer when he was made Baron Forrest in 1918. He began his career in the Surveyor-General`s Office in 1863 when he was apprenticed to the assistant surveyor in Bunbury, and it was as an explorer and surveyor that he achieved fame in Western Australia, the eastern colonies of Australia, and in London. In 1869 he was offered the leadership of a party to search for the lost Ludwig Leichardt expedition party through an unexplored region near modern-day Laverton.
His next expedition in 1870 was the first west to east crossing of Western Australia by land, following and surveying the route taken by John Eyre when he walked across the Nullarbor in 1840. In 1874 Forrest led another expedition from Geraldton, travelling west to east through the arid western centre to the north-south telegraph line in South Australia. The next year he travelled to London where he gave several public lectures and received popular acclaim as a colonial explorer.

A shot I took on a storm chase last summer and finally got around to processing it...
This is Lake George, an ancient lake, believed to be more than a million years old.
Originally, small streams drained its catchment into the Yass River, but then the Lake George Escarpment rose due to major crustal movement along a strong fault line, blocking this drainage and forming the lake. Lake George has in previous Ice Ages been much larger and deeper.
Currently, the lake is dry and has been for many years... I cant imagine what it would look like full of water and life...

We had just finished a wonderful tall mast sunset sailboat cruise this summer in Sister Bay, Wisconsin, and were walking back to the car. I happened to turn around and see this scene unfolding. I grabbed my camera one more time and ran down to the docks to capture this wonderful scene of a Father teaching his kids to fish in the last of the evening light.
A little over-the-top look at some bluebells at Roseberry Topping. When the sun gets low enough, the topping is not very bright - it needs a good strong sun to set it off
On a frozen winter day, on the way to one of Europe's highest roads accessible in winter: Kaunertal Glacier Road.
"I've told you already I can't take you for a walk.", I said to my camera.
I'm stuck here.
I've been in my room for three days in a row. And there's two more to come. And my camera is screaming to go out. First test is on tuesday. I might take a break tonight though, to go and spend some time with my boyfriend. He says he misses me.
Sorry for the lack of concepts lately. I really need to get done with this, and then I guess I will start with better photographs, hopefully.
I woke up with this song in my head, a song I haven't heard for ages. Weird. Listen.
Now back to Literature.

Such an awesome sunset on this day, looks as if the plane in flying over a body of water, but is actually the sky extraordinary optical illusion. Another fine addition to my Texas Wild West Sunset (set). Have a great evening and enjoy my friends, Lol.

The Devon Sunset Waves picture captures the breathtaking beauty of the white-tipped waves crashing against the jagged rocks in Ilfracombe, United Kingdom. The stunning contrast of the rocky coastline against the vibrant sunset sky creates a mesmerizing scene of natural wonder. The calmness of the sea juxtaposed with the ruggedness of the rocks evokes a sense of tranquility and adventure.
