La tour Montparnasse est le plus haut gratte-ciel de Paris intra-muros, situé dans le quartier Necker (15e arrondissement) de Paris. Sa hauteur de 209 m (ou 210 m selon les sources) en a fait pendant près de quarante ans l'immeuble le plus haut de France, jusqu'à l'achèvement, à La Défense en 2011, de la tour First.
Inaugurée en 1973, elle fut conçue par les architectes Jean Saubot, Eugène Beaudouin, Urbain Cassan et Louis de Hoÿm de Marien. Elle fait partie de l'ensemble immobilier Tour Maine-Montparnasse (EITMM).

Entre 1836 et 1846, Jacques Hittorf est chargé d’aménager la place d la Concorde juste après l’érection de l’obélisque venu de Louxor.
Tout autour de la place où il avait déjà fait installer deux fontaines : la fontaine des fleuves et la fontaine des mers, il fait aménager ces lampadaires, donnant ainsi une ambiance nautique au lieu et entourant les axes menant à la place de la Concorde. Cela tombe bien car l’hôtel de la marine est situé juste à côté et hébergeait le ministère du même nom.
Between 1836 and 1846, Jacques Hittorf was responsible for developing the Place d la Concorde just after the erection of the obelisk from Luxor.
All around the square where he had already installed two fountains: the river fountain and the sea fountain, he arranged these street lamps, thus giving a nautical atmosphere to the place and surrounding the axes leading to Place de la Concorde. This is good because the Marine Hotel is located right next door and housed the ministry of the same name.
