Sebe was thrilled with the snow this morning.... he decided to do somersaults on the trampoline. Love the exploding dome of snow from his bounce.
This night was supposed to be a chill evening when a few of us planned to make breakfast dinner - i.e. pancakes, omelettes, scrambled eggs, bacon, crepe, tater tots... As easy as it sounds, dinner didn't turn out to be very successful.
Disaster started when Mike insisted that we deep fry, not pan fry or bake, the tater tots. So I started to preheat half a saucepan of oil to deep fry them, but I moved on to the bacon, thinking that the oil would take a long while to heat up.
The next thing we knew, the oil started to boil (as we discovered later on, it was at least 185'C), so we took the pan off the hot stove top (we have an electric stove), and placed it on a cool one. Mike thought that the oil wasn't cooling fast enough, so he opened the lid and the oil started to smoke vigorously. Before we realized what was going on, WOOF, the oil bursted into flames. It was insanely scary, as the flames were so high, I thought they were going to reach the cabinets and burn down the whole building.
As some of us ran around opening windows and turning on fans, Bo and Mike placed the flaming pot of oil onto the kitchen floor, and extinguished the fire with a lot of baking soda. By that time, the smoke had already spread out throughout the apartment, triggering the smoke detector, and we had to run outside because the smoke was suffocating.
We took the pot outside, and opened the lid to let the oil cool, but it started to light up again, so we used a fire extinguisher.... and it turned out not to be a carbon dioxide extinguisher (as we hoped it would be), but had some stinky white powder, and made us cough more rigorously in addition to the discomfort from inhaling the smoke. I guess the whole process shortened our lives by 2 years....
So this is a picture of the pot after we used the fire extinguisher. All of that powder is still outside our door right now.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (April 17, 2011) – Just more than a year after exploding onto the NASCAR scene with a second-place finish in his NASCAR K&N Series debut in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown at Irwindale, Sergio Peña grabbed his first series victory in the South Boston 150.
Peña, driving the Freightliner Toyota as part of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program, won the second race of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season. It marked the third victory in 12 NASCAR K&N Series races for Revolution Racing over the last two seasons.
Teammates Ryan Gifford, driving the TRD Toyota Camry, and Darrell Wallace Jr., driving the U.S. Army entry, took home fifth- and sixth-place finishes respectively, giving Revolution Racing three of the top-six positions in the tightly contested race. Michael Cherry, driving the Revolution Racing Fueling Dreams Toyota Camry, was involved in several accidents including one with then-race-leader Brett Moffitt with nine laps remaining, giving Peña the lead on the race’s final restart with four laps remaining. Cherry spun alone in turn four and Moffitt could not stop collecting Cherry’s Toyota.
Peña held off Matt DiBenedetto, Max Gresham and Coleman Pressley for the win. Peña took over the lead in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East points standing by one point over Coleman Pressley. Wallace is fourth (21 points behind Peña), Gifford is seventh (minus 52) and Cherry is 17th (125 points down).
Teammate Darrell Wallace Jr., last year’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series rookie of the year, won the pole with Peña qualifying third, Cherry sixth and Gifford 12th.
“This is a great feeling,” Peña said. “I don’t know what happened to Brett Moffitt there, but unfortunately for him he wasn’t able to finish the race, but he was definitely the car to beat. Luckily I was there to pounce on it and take away the win.”
The South Boston 150 can be seen on Speed TV Thursday at 6 p.m. (ET).
The evening sun hid behind the clouds just enought to make it look like an exploding cloud. Only bumped saturation in Post production a little bit.
I used this tutorial:

I changed some stuff like the colors. The most important thing is that they say to stagger the wind. I chose regular "wind" as the method and had much better results. Depending on how large your picture is, you may need to repeat the filter more than they recommend, too.
4th of July 2011 from Seattle. Fireworks galore as they go off. I used BULB mode on the camera and F/8 to take most of the shots. Enjoy!

Puffball mushrooms are a group of fungi known for their unique way of dispersing spores. When mature, these mushrooms release a cloud of brown spores in a visible "puff" when touched, stepped on, or impacted by raindrops—hence the name "puffball."
They are typically round or pear-shaped and can range in size from a few centimeters to over 50 cm in diameter, depending on the species. Common types include:
Common Puffball (Lycoperdon perlatum)
Giant Puffball (Calvatia gigantea)
Field Puffball (Bovista plumbea)
The title just seems to fit. These blooms just seem to be expoding out from within the dark shadows.
