I can't explain it in scientific terms, so I'll just say they're kissing! These two beavers were working a couple of hundred feet apart, until I disturbed them by hiking past on the Mizzy Lake Trail. The one beaver just stopped what he was doing and sought out his mate to nuzzled her; I suppose to make sure she was okay. They nuzzled for a while. (A little fuzzy. My bad.)

This young woman was one of our tour guides. She's pointing to a sarcophagus on display in the museum. The sign beside it reads:

Starting in the second century CE, both Christian and pagan Romans buried their dead in a stone coffin called a sarcophagus. A sarcophagus was usually carved with decorations and images of the deceased. Often the back was left uncarved because the sarcophagus would be placed against the wall of a tomb. Though Christians borrowed pagan designs for their carcophagi, the designs were reinterpreted to symbolize new Christian concepts.

Could someone please explain to me why i should be waiting 7 minutes for a train at 7pm on a tuesday? Instead of watching lights flicker, shouldn't i be well on my way to my destination? Wouldn't more trains per hour _and_ more cars per train speed things up? Could metro then come something close to the amazing efficiency of the ancient moscow metropolitain or the reliability of the creaky nyc subway? We can only hope. transit foamer

I'm not sure who just sent me a present, so this is getting cross posted.

A nameless santa in the Colorado region has sent me an embarrassing bounty. Nay, bounty doesn't convey what I found, the bottomless cornucopia I was presented with.

The breakdown:

1 birck Havarti cheese

1.5 lb hickory smoked beef sticks

1 pack beef jerky nuggets

1 pack beef streakhouse bits

1 pack beef peppered nuggets

1 pack spicy jalapeno jerky bits

2 pack buffalo jerky nuggets (and that's made from the former king of the prairies, not flavored like an industrial New York city)

Santa, you kick ass.

edit: There was no note, so I'll have to wait until santa identifies him- or herself to thank them properly.

I believe I've confirmed that this was from my G+T secret santa. Who, in a heroic show of christmas spirit, has produced yet MORE holiday cheer.

In the mail today I got yet another package, including an anonymous note explaining that technical difficulties with santa's sleigh were responsible for the delay and including brand spanking new copies of:

Prototype

Fable II

Idioccracy

Stephen Colbert's I Am America (and So Can You!)

Pictures will be forthcoming, but thank you again santa. You bring the kick ass. The game are both supposed to be great games right up my alley I've been meaning to pick up, Mike Judge is great, and Colbert has been on my good side ever since he did that amazing set at the White House Correspondent's dinner.

explaining why I had to make another account.

please do read it, if you're a contact. thanks. hopefully I'll be able to get in again soon.

A chili vendor tries to explain to me about his amulet bearing the likeness of Somdet Phrachao Taksin Maharaj, who was the first and only monarch of Thonburi kingdom (1768-1782). These amulets, "King Taksin Savior of the Nation Amulet", were first issued in 1999. The red shirt is a "Red Shirt" - symbol of the movement backed by the ex-Prime Minister Thaksin (who is NO relation to King Taksin).

This counts as a SP because I set up the camera on a tripod and talked to it for my class project, and this is a screenshot of me editing it in Final Cut Pro :)

Lady Allia explains why we should all be cheering for her to win the tournament.

The sign behind her lists some of the activities that the tournament involves. "Saracen's Tent" refers to riding on horseback with a spear held near the ground to cut the ropes holding up a tent while at the Crusades against the Saracens. In this case, the "rope" is a balloon on the ground.

Paul Gilbert, deputy manager for the Flight Programs and Partnerships Office at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, speaks to the NASA Social group about the Marshall Center's contributions to Orion's first flight. The Orion spacecraft launched aboard a United Launch Alliance Delta IV heavy lift rocket on December 5. The Marshall Center designed and built the spacecraft adapter that connected Orion to the Delta IV rocket. NASA hosted a multi-center NASA Social, inviting social media users from across the United States to visit the various centers to learn about Orion's first flight.

I can't explain why people collect certain things. Some people collect comics, some stamps, some coins, some collect video games, or art, or cameras (and I must admit, I love my collections of video games and movies and toys and art and cameras and all those other things I obsess over).

One of my favorite movies is "Amelie" by director Jean Pierre Junet. He also directed "Delicatessen" and "The City of Lost Children", which I love, but when Amelie came out in 2001, it was a love that I can't explain. Every moment of that film I simply have immense love for. I saw it many times in the theater. I brought friends to see it.

For some reason, I became very obsessive with collecting the movie when it came out on DVD. There are certain movies I'll buy on multiple formats when they come out (vhs to Laserdisc to DVD to blu-ray; the common "upgrade"), but the second I discovered there were "deluxe" editions of Amelie released all over the world, I simply had to collect them.

Since 2001 I've slowly collected every deluxe edition of Amelie that has been released; from a European Cookie Tin edition, to a French-Canadian release, to the elusive Japanese tin edition, and, just today, a Chinese blu-ray edition just arrived to add to my collection.

Ultimately, people collect things because it brings them joy. It helps them remember a certain time, or emotion and feeling.

I felt it time to document my collection.
