Have you ever met a witch woman? How about meeting a witch woman in a secluded African village?
Sheree and I did on a hot afternoon in January. We were going to a school, but the principal seemed to think we wanted to meet the village witch woman first.
There were two young men out front, eying us suspiciously as we neared.
Inside the hut...and it WAS a hut...she sat on the floor, contemplating a pile of sea shells, coins and beads in front of her.
I always view fortune tellers with a watermelon sized grain of salt. (If they're so good, how come they didn't buy Google stock fifteen years ago?)
Anyway: our escort told us we could ask anything we wanted.
"Will I ever find a woman?" asked one of men on our tour. His voice quavered just a little.
She consulted the sea shells. She pushed them around with a cane. Then she nodded. Yes...the lonely man would be lonely no longer. He settled back, content.
There were a couple more awkward questions...no one got bad news. Everyone got good news. Most tipped her. Am I cynical for thinking that no one would have tipped at all if they'd gotten bad news?
It was an experience...a great experience. Interesting, even.
Gee...I guess she knew I'd say that one day.
Damn.
Kansas City Union Station
8,000 square feet of toy trains

Built in 1914, Union Station opens her arms with 850,000 square feet of amazing space that originally featured 900 rooms. In her prime as a working train station, she accommodated hundreds of thousands of passengers each year. During WWII, an estimated one million travelers – many of them soldiers -- passed through the Station. The North Waiting Room (now Sprint Festival Plaza) held 10,000 people and the complex included restaurants, a cigar store, barber shop, railroad offices, the nation's largest Railway Express Building (used for shipping freight and mail) as well as a powerhouse providing steam and power. So many stories of farewells, reunions and of day-to-day vibrancy still echo in her walls. Just listen . . .
Closed in the 1980s, our Station sat empty and neglected, narrowly escaping demolition on several occasions. Then, in 1996, a historic bi-state initiative was passed to fund the Station's renovation, which was completed in grand fashion in 1999.
Union Station is once again a majestic and desired destination for our surrounding communities. She is at once, magical, warm, casual, elegant, full of surprises and wise from experience but young at heart.

The richness of Hindu gods and goddesses is overwhelming. So is the colorful adornment. This shot was taken in an - at first sight - inconspicuous niche at Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur.
This collage was created in August 2014, so it's almost 10 years old. I would do it much better today, but it's still important to me because it shows what I've learned since then.
The collage came about very spontaneously when I saw a very good photo made by Dieter (neurodoc 2010). My inspiration was the series Moonlighting, known in the 80s, with the title music by Al Jearreau.

The European Experience 2016 Exceeds Expectations
What a weekend! We went into the weekend not knowing what to expect being a first year event, but left excited and ready for next year. Matthew Bounds and his crew at Sowo Partners moved the popular Southern Worthersee event from Helen, GA to a new event called “The European Experience” in Savannah Georgia, and it went off without a hitch. The two-day event was a welcomed refresh filled with friendly faces in an exciting new location with an excellent post-event night life in downtown Savannah.
We offered APR ECU and TCU upgrades at the event, as we do at nearly all events we attend, and we nearly doubled our flash count from years past at SOWO. We want to thank every customer who partook in the sale, and want to thank all those who stopped by to talk shop and shoot the breeze. Last but not least, we want to thank Matt Bounds and the SOWO Partners crew for putting on an amazing show we’re excited to attend next year.

Bradford 35284 on Market Street in the city centre. This is the new terminus for many routes following the interchange closure. Two of these green Streetdecks recently transferred over from Leeds. On an ideal day they are focused on the 72 which half helps the green livery blend in i suppose. However since the turmoil of the interchange anything goes at the moment. Here loading for Bingley, the other one was on Eldwick. Imagine sitting down in a coffee shop with Stanley King and asking for his opinion of the current situation !
