experiences... so no idea.. is this?

A beautiful sunset experience at the open air museum Zaanse Schans with view at river De Zaan, Zaandijk, 2016.

Thank you very much for your visits, faves and kind comments.

Heading out on Hwy41 to Chapel Hill near Shandon, CA, this was the specific vision that I was hoping to capture on July 17, 2020. However, the reality was that the Comet Neowise and the Chapel were separated by about 30 deg. So, my vision is a composite - altered reality. It was an unforgettable experience - magical!

My dad took us to Cirque Du Soleil on my birthday this year. Seeing the smiles and amazed faces of my children; Spending quality time with my parents; Attending an entertaining event. These memories will last longer than any item I could have received.

This holiday season I'll be trying to give experiences instead of presents. As a bonus, this means very little time squished into shopping malls.

A related recent presents conversation with my son...

Sam - "What experience are you going to give me?"

Me - "The privilege of cleaning the upstairs bathroom."

Sam - "I think I'll re-gift that one."

Exchange District, June 2023.

It's not a white Christmas this year...

But, at least, I get to experience this last year 😅

I'll always be grateful 😍

Thank you and Merry Christmas from our home to yours 🎄

Taking part at The Other Art Fair in London recently (see my previous post), has been a wonderful experience in many ways. The London public (which came in great numbers) was so engaging, there were some nice leads, interesting meetings and I actually sold my work very well! Having arrived one day before the opening, fortunately also gave me a little time to move around and see some nice buildings. Like this one on the south bank, which is still under construction.

I am not a fan of HDR, you see utterly ghastly examples everywhere.

This was done with Nikon's in-camera 2-shot HDR which generates a JPEG only output, back in the days when I was experimenting with the D800E. Obviously Nikon is not in favor of HDR and made the option rather limited.

You can get better results from bracketed shots. Then again, with so much dynamic range in Sony sensors (D800E used a Sony sensor), bracketing is usually unnecessary.

Yasaka Shrine is not known for its autumn colors but there are lovely splashes of reds late in the season.

The result here is acceptable, further edited of course. Always a learning experience.

Taken underwater the other day. This model had red hair and I was tempted to go very "Little Mermaid" with it but decided to against it. The reflection in this one was interesting to me and the flow of the fabrics...it seemed very much like a butterfly spreading its wings, so I played with it a little bit..

I hope that a creative week will be had by all! I've been a bit...tired lately. Just fatigued. But I'm hoping that I can get my energy up enough to create lots of different pictures this week. And with any luck (meaning if I can fix my car in time) I'll be in the grand canyon this time next week.

Located in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, resonate invites us to ‘feel ourselves deeply embedded within the natural world’ and aims to capture ‘that ineffable feeling – a state of resonance‘.

Upon entering the exhibition, a sound reminiscent of a singing bowl flows through the garden, while the first illuminated installation rotates before viewers. Throughout the gardens, vibrant light installations work in harmony with the natural environment. The use of light and sound creates the illusion of another world. It also augments the natural flow, plant life and landscape of the Botanic Garden.

Highlights of the exhibition include Beginnings, where coordinated pillars of light dance over the garden’s lake in a hypnotic display, and Winterings, where magical, light-bearing spheres float through the atmosphere of the rainforest conservatory, beaming dancing pillars of light across the forest floor. The final display, Aliveness, includes a vibrant soundtrack as lights flare over the garden’s trees, concluding the event with an uplifting sense of hope.

To be or not to be, there is the question!

Ser o no ser, aquesta és la pregunta

The sound the Enterprise makes when it whizzes past you. At least, that is what the classic Star Trek show suggested, with its opening credits sequence. Of course, sound is not really carried in space, but a silent ship doesn't quite have the same impact...

My entry for #MotionBlur, Macro Mondays' theme for March 8, 2021. I have to say, this one almost got the better of me, as my early attempts at panning, well, didn't really pan out. But I finally had the "A-ha!" moment when I realized my tripod allowed me to rotate the camera, instead of moving it manually. Only with that technique was I able to capture those light rays AND the relative focus obtained by stopping the camera before the camera's curtain closed. Once again, I learned something new, thanks to well thought-of themes that often take me outside my photography comfort zone. Being part of this group is really an enriching experience.

My first trip with a cruiser, a very special cruiser... I was on some ferries, but no longer than 22 hours. In the past 2 weeks we were 12 days on a trip from Bergen to Kirkenes and back. It was a new experience to travel with Hurtigruten and I shot a lot of pics. Stay tuned!

An edit of a previous photo I uploaded, which I think looks better with this high contrast b&w treatment. Thanks for looking and Happy New Year!

4/365 - a trip to The Everyman in Horsham to see West Side Story with Flo … long but thoroughly recommended if it’s your thing …

Never ‘done’ an Everyman … but enjoyed the ambience … and Flo enjoyed the food as well as the show!! :-) xx
