We’re expecting a good little snow here tomorrow on the Jersey Shore. I issued a standard military warning order to Little Texas Aggie Drinking Bear (left), both A&M College of Texas Ring ’42, Jersey Shore Fightin’ Texas Aggie Ring, and Central Texas Gray Bartender Bear (far right).

I told them to be prepared. And, that we have a brisket point in the oven which will be ready in about 8 to 10 hours. If we loose power, we can eat it cold.

We have plenty of Maker’s Mark, sweet vermouth, and citrus on hand to make the old fashioneds, so we won’t go hungry.

Aggie Ring told Central Texas Gray Bartender Bear (far right) that he better muddle the fruit well for the drinks.

“There’s just something about Central Texas Gray Bartender Bear that I can’t put my finger on.” said Jersey Shore Fightin’ Texas Aggie Ring.

expecting 3 days of rain ;(

-however- is there enough

An excellent show, as expected. Diru becomes less showy and more art with each iteration.

This show was strange because the whole crowd skewed towards an even younger crowd than expected - the majority weren't able to wear wrist bands (the bartender's worst fears.) The Houston kids had a strange mashup style, with a straight-forward focus on enjoying the show. I'm ok with that.

Birthday Massacre (who I didn't think to take pictures of) are even better when seen live. They just seemed to have so much fun despite their srs bisness keel.

Well worth the eight hour drive for this show. I'd do it again!

Roosevelt's Bridges 2 Harmony gospel choir performed their winter show 'Expect Your Miracle' on Thursday night, January 27th.

Just trying out with Candle lights, this was on a Rice Lake, Ontario, Canada. Was about to wind up the camp when we thought of trying this out. What I really love about this image is the look this lady had, there is so much to it, as if a story waiting to be captured.

I am so grateful that you guys have liked it. Thank you All..:))

Seen in 1958 Daf 600 Variomatic Publicity Brochure.

Original Daf 600 Variomatic sedan publicity brochure, to promote the first passenger car Daf had developed in the 1950s. It had an unique automatic transmission system with stepless acceleration.

The first Daf passenger car was announced in 1957 and officially presented in Febr. 1958.

Production started one year later in 1959.

The Daf 600 was designed by W. van den Brink with technical assistance of Johan van der Brugghen, and was replaced by both the 1961-63 Daf 750 and the 1961-65 Daffodil.

The differences between the standard 600 and the luxe version include the two-tone paint (six colours available), quarterlights in the door windows, hub-caps, chrome strips around the windows and chrome bumpers. In the interior there was more colour upholstery choice.

With many black & white photos and drawings.

I don't know if this brochure was intended for car dealers and potential buyers. Perhaps it was an internal brochure intended for its own employees. I inherited this brochure from an ex-Daf engineer who was involved in the development of the assembly line for the manufacture of the Daf 600.

Hillcrest Hotel, also known as the Hillcrest Arms Apartment Hotel, is a historic building in Toledo, Ohio, USA. It has nine floors and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. It is located at 1601-1621 Madison Avenue.

The Hillcrest was built in 1929. Authors, artists, and business people stayed in the hotel, including Amelia Earhart in 1933. She had an arrow painted on the roof to assist pilots in locating the local airfield.

The hotel closed in 1990. The building was used as an interdenominational Christian center to help homeless people and substance abusers before a 1994 fire closed it. A $12 million remodel in 1999 converted the building to use as a residential apartment building with 106 apartments. Bonds were issued for the building's renovation. The City of Toledo has made up the difference in loan underpayments and is expected to be on the hook for $6.7 million as the building was to be sold in foreclosure in 2009.

We expected the train to be quiet on the ride home -- those "hens" had to be tired. We were tired, and we had a relaxing stay with friends! But the ladies were still going strong. No matter: Anita was content and Will just wanted to look out the window anyway.

I wasn't expecting to see it out on the 479, as I was walking down Commercial Road it appeared right behind me without any warning! W937 JNF waits on bay 17 of Guildford Bus Station with a service to Epsom on 18/03/2013

The alarm went of, as expected, at 5:08am. I was in bed, in that nice region that's not quite sleep and not quite awake. The news was on the radio and I drifted in and out of sleep to the reports of middle-eastern trouble, economic problems, weather catastrophes and political strife. Then a segment came with a lone voice, telling a story. The voice belonged to a Franciscan monk who spoke at the funeral of a fellow monk who died at the World Trade Center ten years ago. I listened and was surprised at how his words moved me.

The rest of the day was almost indistinguishable from so many others. Commute, work, lunch, commute and home.

That evening was different.

A week ago one of my co-workers sister passed away. Tonight was her wake. I had never met the woman but I decided to attend to support my friend. I have attended many church services, mostly Catholic and Protestant. The traditions and somber mood, especially during a funeral, that the Protestant and Catholic religions have perfected was what I was expecting. My friend is a pastor of his church which is more along the lines of black Southern Baptist. There was music and singing and yelling and dancing! I sat there amazed at a funeral that was festive instead of pensive. The people who spoke were so warm and full of joy. They weren’t burying someone. They were giving here a grand sendoff.

After the service I spent some time thinking. Thinking about all the positive I had heard in the wake of death.

These two separate moments both spoke to me.

And I am trying to hear what they were saying.

BTW, the Franciscan monk story can be heard here.

Sage advice. If that city's FINEST upstanding citizens don't get you (see insert), then Maryland's menacing deer population WILL finish you off just hours later.

Expect to see more of this in the future. It's awfully fun! (Well, you might not really see it on Flickr because it is a temporary medium just like a markerboard.)

Not recommended if you want to maintain a pristine surface. Some amount of smudging or smearing is inevitable.

You saw it here first!

This time I was struck by luck! Always went to the airport without a tripod and missed every opportunity, but not this time. As start-up occured minutes after EOBT, the slot expired while taxiing. So in order to get a new slot they had to wait ten minutes, which gave me a perfect opportunity.. Always prepare for the unexpected is something I learned from my previous encounters! This (ex-)Gemini aircraft now flies with World Airways as N383WA.

I hadn't expected to see one of these just yet though the temperature last night was the lowest since last winter and the grass was frozen white this morning. We found this tucked into an eggbox inside the trap along with three Yellow-line Quakers and after some searching around prised three more Yellow-line Quakers out of the grass. They all went into little cardboard pots and into the fridge, which for once was warmer for them than being left outdoors.

I took the bottom photo around 9am, more than an hour after we'd collected up the moths- you can see from our footprints that the grass was still frozen. We were lucky to find any moths at all let alone a new species for the garden!

I had five hours to just sit this morning. It was really nice, got this done and cleaning the house...played with the dogs and listened to a playlist titled "Summer Breeze" and "Stop Thinking". Both were amazing. Today is a good day :)

OM Times March 1/2 2012 : SOW What? Survival Seeds to Sow (pg4)

Sow What?

Survival Seeds to Sow – Heirloom, GMO or Non-GMO

"Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders." - Henry David Thoreau

As many are beginning to take interest in buying seeds in order to secure their future, there is confusion as to what type of seed to buy. With the different varieties available such as genetically modified (GMO), non-genetically modified (Non-GMO), and heirloom seeds, it is no wonder why there is such confusion.

In a survival situation, finding the right type of seeds that will offer vitamins and food security with reoccurring harvests will be of great importance for long term survival.

Food Security in Seeds

All seeds are good to have in order to grow food. However, there are certain types that are preferred seed varieties because they are better at sustaining long term survival. That being said, if a person is purchasing seeds for food security, then the seeds purchased should be heirloom open-pollinated or non-hybrid (non-GMO) quality.

Heirloom or Open Pollinated Seeds (Non-GMO)

Heirloom seed varities are an open pollinated seed developed before 1940. These type of seeds are bred for their flavor and not their durability while being shipped. Additionally, these types of seeds will produce fertile seeds that can be saved for subsequent growing seasons. This is the preferred seed variety that preppers and survivalists are storing as one of their long term survival items. These seeds are the ones that will continually produce viable seeds.

Genetically Modified Seeds (GMO)

Seeds from a genetically modified variety are a hybrid of two separate varieties that have different genetic make up from it’s parent plant. As the plant matures, the seeds produced from the plant will either be sterile, or start to revert back to the parent plants. Furthermore, the seeds that have been genetically modified have been so to be disease resistant, insect resistant, and drought resistant is some cases. However, these type of seeds are not good choices because while the seed is created a pesticide known as bacillus thuringiensis or BT, is created inside it in order to keep insects away. The reasoning behind this idea was to create more plentiful crops. The problem is that the finished product is a seed that holds pesticides inside it that will kill off any insects (even the beneficial insects). These are not the best choices for survival seeds due to the BT pesticide and the seed that is produced from the mature plant will be sterile.

In present time, Americans are struggling in the midst of a severe economic downturn and that makes us all feel a loss of control. Growing a garden helps us to gain back control over crucial basic needs, our financial and food security. Growing our own food rewards us in so many ways, all the way from eating healthy to saving on the grocery bill. Unfortunately many in America today do not get to experience the rewards of freshly grown food.
