Before and after in the comments. I love that effect. I barely did anything while editing this photo, and yet I love the result. I was going to do something with photoshop, but I spent about a minute trying to remember how to use that particular feature before giving up. I should be working. Actually, it's going up to 2am. How did it get so late?
I have an essay to write for Tuesday that counts for 25% of one of my modules. I don't even have a plan because I've only vaguely decided what I want to write about.
I'm going to look at Beckett's Waiting for Godot and Endgame, and the role of meaninglessness. I think I'll try and link it to existentialism, memory and time. I've got notes to take from one more book, then I'll consider going to bed. I have to be up early tomorrow.
---------------
It's now almost 4am. I have a feeling the next three days are going to be really tough. I shouldn't have stayed up so late.
But this is really funny. I hope it makes someone smile. It made me giggle. (Giggle. That's such an awesome word. Just saying it is awesome. Giggle. Gigglegigglegiggle. It's just awesome.)

Lilia Pereira.

"The Soul of the Absent" was created as an exhibition project that goes beyond the mere display of religious images. The book is intended to reflect certain introspective themes such as death, the game of doubles, the trauma, pleasure, the sacred, the vacuum metamorphosis, and so on.
These photographs tacit dialogue with one of the greatest works of Swedish film "Det sjumde inseglet", 1957, (The Seventh Seal) Ingmar Bergman. Bergman's films are always characterized by introspection and treatment of the issues that most affect humans. In "The Seventh Seal" is expressed existentialism, the eternal human quest to make sense of life, life, death and everything that entails.
"The Soul of the Absent" attempts to raise the ambiguity of the aforementioned issues, as its main feature, offering the viewer that appeals to their subjectivity to connect with the most secret of your being. Lilia Pereira.

More riffing on the theme of black and white and the way we look at the world. Its the beach but is it.
if you have read a book called "Only Forward" by Micheal Marshall Smith then this image might start to make some sense. For those who havent. There's time to start - suffice it to say he uses beaches as part of a theme, but then much of what you think is going on is not really whats going on - its existentialism hiding behind smart writing - try it, you will laugh out loud and think at the same time
"Jean-Paul Charles Aymard Sartre (21 June 1905 – 15 April 1980) was a French philosopher, playwright, novelist, political activist, biographer, and literary critic. He was one of the key figures in the philosophy of existentialism and phenomenology, and one of the leading figures in 20th-century French philosophy and Marxism.
"His work has also influenced sociology, critical theory, post-colonial theory, and literary studies, and continues to influence these disciplines.
"Sartre was also noted for his open relationship with prominent feminist and fellow existentialist philosopher and writer Simone de Beauvoir. Together, Sartre and de Beauvoir challenged the cultural and social assumptions and expectations of their upbringings, which they considered bourgeois, in both lifestyle and thought."

"Simone Lucie Ernestine Marie Bertrand de Beauvoir (9 January 1908 – 14 April 1986) was a French writer, intellectual, existentialist philosopher, political activist, feminist and social theorist. Though she did not consider herself a philosopher, she had a significant influence on both feminist existentialism and feminist theory.
"De Beauvoir wrote novels, essays, biographies, autobiography and monographs on philosophy, politics and social issues. She was known for her 1949 treatise The Second Sex, a detailed analysis of women's oppression and a foundational tract of contemporary feminism; and for her novels, including She Came to Stay and The Mandarins. She was also known for her lifelong open relationship with French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre."

Existence preceeds essence.
Once we realise there's no a priori rules to follow, and that our existence is ours to define we can choose freely, but the responsability for those choices is ours.
Man is not only that which he conceives himself to be, but that which he wills himself to be… man is nothing but what he makes of himself. —Jean-Paul #Sartre #existentialism #SeeYouInTwoMonths #GoingToMyCave

What proceeds death? Heaven or nothingness? If heaven exists where can its boundaries be drawn? For some, there is a very thin line that distinguishes heaven and purgatory. In this case, the line is a bit thicker, and the other side of the physical world is a bit more vague in its interpretation.
Death is a product of time; time elicits death, for time causes aging, decay, causality of death-inducing events, etc.
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd dimensions are characterized by space. In a simple sense, the 4th dimension can be considered simply "time," but to be more concise, it is more-so "space-time" since time is dependent upon the movement of spatial objects to give reference to time. The physical world is characterized as space. The world changes because it is a space of transience due to its interference by time; time elicits death; all physical entities born within the world are born to die. But death—not simply human death, more-so the recycling of energy—is superseded by the response of birth, and thus life returns to its origin. For every death there is a birth. Existing is not simply an endeavor of the mind, body, soul, etc., but one of perpetual consciousness manifested in all things. It is a constant. To exist is to have existed, to exist now, and to exist forever.

Our friend Gjermund looks a little hostile here. But he is actually explaining his take on existentialism, and in particular Kierkegaard.
"Who am I, Kylie? "Why a fox? Why not a horse, or a beetle, or a bald eagle? I'm saying this more as, like, existentialism, you know? Who am I? And how can a fox ever be happy without, you'll forgive the expression, a chicken in its teeth?"

Sing like you think no one's listening
You would kill for this
Just a little bit
Just a little bit
You would, you would
Sing me something soft
Sad and delicate
Or loud and out of key
Sing me anything

This sculpture really struck me right in the existentialism. The card describing it gives a quote by the artist. "The thought is the eternally present fact that however closely we may be thrown together by circumstances...we are unknown to each other." The figures carved into the marble are forever linked together, and yet they can't even really see each other.

Periodically there will be a photo from Mars which the sharer purports is some object of meaning. Of course it's all just rock and our imagination. And now they claim there is water on mars And if so what--The potential to become in several billion earth years something akin to the march of Western world? It will be as meaningless as those objects now being shared of the red planet.
