En su entorno se pueden ver numerosas aves, entre otras flamencos, como se puede contemplar en la imagen, así como una vegetación de saladares y espacios arenosos., aunque aun se conservan restos de las infraestructuras salineras, destacando las diferentes estaciones de elevación de agua hacia las salinas.

The town church was built between 1718 and 1726 by master builder Donato Giuseppe Frisoni as a baroque preaching church on the west side of the market square. Already in 1720, before the completion of the two towers, the office of a city councilor (tower-blower) had been established, which still exists today.

The story behind the photo:
For the most part, I try to show photos here that come with an entertaining anecdote that my fellow Flickerites can identify with and enjoy; the world offers enough misery as it is, so my goal is to cheer you up, not to drag you down. But here for once I feel I have a responsibility to share with you what I see as a cautionary tale - and I don't blame you if you turn away now, because what follows is not a pleasant read.
But before I get into that I want to say that the year 2022 was - at least as far as my photographic endeavors were concerned - an amazing one, and I'm very grateful. It was a year of many firsts for me; I managed to produce my first acceptable bird photo; I was for the first time able to capture a roe deer as well as a swallowtail, a mantis and even a fox (which I can't wait to show you): all from within my tiny garden in Ticino.
But while there were many wonderful encounters with the fascinating creatures that share "my" vacation home and its adjacent garden with me that I was only too happy to show here, you might have noticed that the lizard species whose Latin name is my alias on Flickr and that - still - "kinda" serves as the main focus of my gallery, has been absent for a long while.
One of the reasons for holding back on new Lacerta bilineata photos is obviously that I decided to widen my focus a bit and that I now concentrate on all the species I manage to capture in my garden and its immediate surroundings.
But there is another reason I haven't uploaded any western greens this summer. Even though I shot dozens of photos of some of the most gorgeous individuals of the species I've ever seen (many of which you can also find here: www.lacerta-bilineata.com/western-green-lizard-lacerta-bi... ), those were all taken on the other side of the village, and not in my garden.
The beautiful male above was in fact one of only 3 western greens I found (alive) in the vicinity of my garden between May and October in 2022 - and out of those he's the only one I was able to photograph.
So what happened? Well, a year ago the neighbor to my immediate left got a young cat, and at the same time, the neighbor to my right also adopted two kittens. Before I continue, it is important to me that you know that I myself am very much a cat person: I adore felines of any kind, and in our own household (though not at our vacation home) we've always had generations of cats, and they were and are as dear to us as our human family members.
So I have no interest in pushing any sort of "anti-cat agenda"; I'm just telling you what happened. By the time spring 2022 came around, my neighbors' cats were almost fully grown and had developed their hunting skills. Between the three of them, they killed up to a dozen western green lizards every day once the reptiles started re-emerging from their winter hiding places which is when they generally are at their most slow and vulnerable.
It was easy to count the dead lizards, because the cats didn't eat them, and whenever I was outside rarely an hour passed without one of the cats showing up with a lizard or some other animal in its mouth. They also killed most of the snakes, even the slightly longer ones at 50-70cm.
Within only a few weeks, the entire Lacerta bilineata population in and around my garden was gone, and the same was true for the population of green whip snakes, while even the number of common wall lizards, which were extremely abundant before, markedly went down during that same time period.
There had always been cats in our village, and I was aware or at least suspected that the ebb and flow of the bilineata population in the past was somewhat tied to how many cats were permanently present at any given time, but my immediate neighbors had never had cats before (which is probably why a tiny population of this protected reptile species had managed to survive around my house).
Now experiencing up close what an impact only 3 cats can have on an isolated, small reptile population was absolutely shocking. What I witnessed made me sad, but I'm not angry at the cats - nor do I hold a grudge towards my neighbors, who are kind, generous and all around lovely people.
And while I don't want to lecture anybody, what I would like to do is offer a few ideas how we as cat-lovers can help mitigate the averse effects our beloved pets' predatory nature (which is nobody's fault: least of all the cats') has on the ecosystems around our homes.
If we live in areas where there's threatened/protected species close to our homes that our cats will prey upon, the time when we let our pets out of the house can already make a huge difference. For example, western green lizards are at their most active between 8am and 11am, and not letting our cats out during that period can already increase the lizards' chance of survival.
If you're a cat lover like me but you also want to protect your local fauna, knowing when during the day birds and reptiles are the most active as well as knowing their breeding/nesting cycles is crucial, and by adjusting the times or time periods when you let your cat out of the house (or not) accordingly will make a vital difference.
But there are also simpler approaches: most reptiles and birds (which are by far the most vulnerable to hunting cats) are not active during the night. Rodents like rats and mice on the other hand very much are, so if you mostly let your cat out after sunset, it will predominantly hunt mice and rats, which are usually abundant enough that their populations aren't threatened (this at least is true for western Europe - other regions might have threatened wildlife that is active during the night, so if you do care, try to educate yourself about the creatures that will fall prey to your pet).
Cats are perfectly adapted to night activity, but they switch to more daytime activity in order to better fit the routine of "their" humans. So while our cats probably won't like it at first to have to stay indoors during the day, they will quickly adapt and accept it, as long as they know they will be able to leave the house once the sun has gone down.
Naturally, there might be practical issues involved that make it impossible to try some of the above (like the presence of coyotes who will eat your cats if they are out at night), but who knows, maybe one person or other will find some of these suggestions useful. And while it may be too late for "my" lizards, I just feel an obligation to at least try to help raise awareness on the issue (although I realize this is a touchy subject and people have strong opinions about it).

With the poses for the fantasy faire from Roquai did I try so many snapshots only this one just grabbed my attention to see an artist in it that's holding onto a muse , elf..something that has been giving him inspiration and not quite willing to let go.

I cut and embossed these little butterflies from pink paper, using my die cutting machine. The background is one I made too. I attached them to wire to give the appearance of flying then cloned the wires out. HMM

Une église y existait dès le 10e siècle et une obédience y est mentionnée au début du 12e siècle. On en conserve l’église et une partie des bâtiments du doyenné, l’ensemble datant probablement de la fin du 11e siècle mais remanié à l’époque gothique. La nef de l’église est romane avec ses trois travées plafonnées et ses baies entre contreforts plats. La façade occidentale en est la partie la plus intéressante avec ses trois arcades entourant le portail et les triplets de bandes lombardes de sa partie haute. Un arc triomphal brisé ouvre sur le chœur gothique du 13e siècle présentant deux travées voûtées d’ogives et un chevet plat. On y découvre des culots sculptés et des fresques anciennes. Le clocher au nord du chœur est également du 13e siècle, rehaussé au 19e siècle, mais les baies géminées à doubles colonnettes du premier étage respirent encore le style roman. Des bâtiments du doyenné sont conservés : l’ancien logis au sud de l’église avec une façade gothique, les vestiges de deux porteries de l’enceinte et une grange romane remarquable divisée en trois nefs par des piliers. Sur la commune de Jalogny existent également les vestiges de deux chapelles anciennes difficiles à trouver, Saint-Pierre et Saint-Nizier, et l’église romane de Vaux.

C'est une curiosité, ce papillon existe sous deux formes de colorations différentes qui correspondent aux deux générations qui se succèdent, l'une printanière et l'autre estivale. les imagos de la première génération ont les ailes orangées avec des tâches noires (forme levana) , ceux de la deuxième génération ont les ailes noires avec des tâches blanches et des tirets orangés (forme prorsa). Les deux formes sont par contre identiques pour leur face inférieure qui présente un aspect réticulé avec secteurs de couleurs différentes et qui évoque réellement une carte géographique. Pour chaque génération, mâles et femelles sont identiques.

Color does not exist, but is created in our brains. In order to see color we need light, an object and our eyes. Color arises in the presence of light. Whenever light falls on an object, some of the rays are reflected by the object and the remainder is absorbed. The part that is reflected, determines the color.
Our eyes cannot perceive the light that is absorbed by an object. An apple, for example, absorbs all colors, except green. Because the green is reflected and is captured by our eyes, we see the green color of the apple.
The most ideal light for seeing color is diffuse daylight, when the sun is more or less behind the clouds and it is slightly rainy. This produces the most truthful colors.

Enclave del norte de Burgos, limítrofe con Cantabria, bañado por el rio Ebro. Existe una surgencia de agua de gran caudal en una inmensa cueva situada bajo una roca y que se precipita hacia el Ebro en forma de cascada, sobre todo en la época invernal.
El rio Ebro a lo largo de millones de años ha generado ese cañón, visible en la imagen, con una profundidad de unos trescientos metros. El pueblo está asentado en ese punto desde épocas medievales. Quedan restos de un molino y las edificaciones presentan un aspecto tradicional, construidas en piedra semitallada.
Muy concurrido en época veraniega, merece la pena la visita con la cámara al hombro.

Hello my Flickr friends!
Another Monday and another red day at Color My World Daily Group. And the theme at Macro Mondays is: on a coin. I must admit that this was by far the most rules exhaustive theme.
And since I’m collecting coins (yes, if you don’t know yet; I’m a hoarder … but I have other charming qualities which makes me an unique and lovable hoarder, at least it is what I like to think about myself…), I decided to go with an old 10 French francs coin. The main raison is that I’m very nostalgic about French francs era but also because they have a very beautiful words written on the edge, which makes them very interesting.
I choose the word “égalité”, which means equality. In my opinion it is a little bit ironic since money is about everything except equality, don’t you think ?…It is like this funeral home advertisement we had here in Montreal, few years ago, begging us to be careful and stay well during holidays … Do you feel the irony here?? But in the case of 10 French Francs it is a French national motto. The whole inscription is: Liberté, Fraternité, Égalité.
My main subject standing on my 10 Francs coin is my tiny red pencil (once again this is a part of another growing collection of tiny pencils... #hoarderlife). It is a few millimeters smaller than the coin diameter (2,5cm).
And since we all know by now that money, doesn't grow on trees (raise your hand if your parents were saying that exact phrase, it exists even in Polish !!!), I have to run to my office!! Another video meeting and then I will start my day of money making at home!
P.S I think that the phrase "money doesn't grow on trees" should be written on the edge of coins worldwide, as a motto for all kids to learn !!! Who is with me on that one ?

I bought this delightful plant this year :-)
Lantana is a genus of about 150 species of perennial flowering plants in the verbena family, Verbenaceae. They are native to tropical regions of the Americas and Africa but exist as an introduced species in numerous areas, especially in the Australian-Pacific region, South and Northeastern part of India.
I found this ghostly looking packing in my kitchen. Some of my friends say ghosts live in old houses. When I was a boy, I was dreaming to see a HARMLESS ghost.
I had a chance to live in a place where people believe a ghost (old lady) exists. Unfortunately, I did not see the ghost, but my friend saw.
I've never seen a real ghost in my life. Still, I do NOT say "Ghosts do not exist."

Kade and I explored Sol a few days ago and vowed to return to capture the beautiful photo opps that were waiting. I truly fell in love with this sim, it has such a draw to me starting with the fact that I wouldn't have even had to change WL as it uses my fav to begin with. It has a mixture of a water color feel to it yet it has a hazy feel that leaves you feeling like you've stepped back in time. Flowers? Got em. BIkes? Got those. Beautifully placed features? Mmhmm most definitely. Love the stone buildings, Light houses? Indeed. Character ? Yep .. in spades. All beautifully done ... and so much more. Cannot wait to snap and hoard more photos ..lol.

La Porte de Sierck.
La construction de la porte de Sierck, ainsi que les 700 mètres de remparts encore existants à l’heure actuelle, s’étale du XIIIe au XIVe siècle. Elle est le fait des habitants du bourg, après la signature de la charte les affranchissant, en 1236. Cette enceinte avait pour but de protéger les Rodemackois et mettre leurs biens à l’abri. Pièce importante de l’architecture et du patrimoine historique de Rodemack, cette porte, aussi appelée Porte de la Franchise (car elle permettait de filtrer les gens de l’extérieur malintentionnés) était défendue par deux tours rondes, encore visibles aujourd’hui.

No existe iglesia en el mundo más antigua que la imponente Basílica de San Juan de Letrán en Roma.
Sus orígenes datan del siglo IV cuando el Emperador Constantino cedió el Palacio de Letrán al Papa. Este la convirtió en su residencia oficial y fue la sede de la Iglesia Católica durante más de 1000 años.
El Papa Sixto V demolió la gran mayoría de los edificios que formaban el complejo en el siglo XVI aunque al menos salvó la basíica que fue remodelada en el siglo XVII.

The school was first... 1878, the church was next 1907).
This is one of several churches in my village... there is a Church of England church in its own grounds.... this is the Methodist church... the building is shared by the Salvation Army... they work together... up the road there is a church whose meetings are held in the YMCA building...
In my view (purely a personal view)... On Portland, as our faith fails and changes, the churches come together. They are part of the community that already exists and central to my mother's generation.... the churches grow by focussing on the needs of the people regardless of faith.... I do not know whether their numbers grow... but they are part of our community first...
Existe-t-il un instant, plus magique que celui où l'on contemple l’astre céleste s’éteindre paisiblement ? Pour en prendre plein la vue, on, n’est pas obligé d’aller très loin ! Depuis mon Observatoire situé sur la terrasse de mon appartement chaque soir, je peux admirer les éclats des rayons du soleil couchant illuminer et sublimer le ciel.
