GRAND BARA DESERT, Djibouti (September 27, 2012) – A pararescueman from the 82nd Expeditionary Rescue Squadron reads WHAT from an exercise accident victim aboard a U.S. Marine Corps CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter during Mass Casualty Exercise, September 25, 2012, in the Grand Bara Desert, Djibouti. The exercise followed a fictitious storyline, but called for the employment of real-world assets. While French and U.S. forces conduct frequent combined training events, this was the first exercise of this type between the two nations in Djibouti. The U.S. forces involved are assigned to Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, or CJTF-HOA. CJTF-HOA works with coalition partners, such as the French, and with countries in East Africa to promote regional security and stability. (U.S. Air Force photo by Technical Sergeant Joseph McKee)

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. - The Presidio of Monterey participated in California's 2013 full-scale exercise, named Golden Guardian, on May 15. The Presidio's objective was to exercise not only multiple Presidio assets, but to also integrate those assets into local municipalities and Monterey County emergency responders.

As part of the exercise, the Marine Corps Detachment Urban Search and Rescue Team and a California Medical Detachment Emergency Triage Team from the Presidio of Monterey Health Clinic responded to an earthquake simulation. Also, Presidio resources, including the police and fire departments, joined forces with local agencies from throughout the Monterey Peninsula to participate in this annual California statewide disaster response exercise.

After practicing a bit on scrap paper I put together a page for the first exercise in class. Each image was stamped with commercial stamps and at least two colors of twinks. I let the stamps dry overnight and then went back in to detail with a micron pen and brush in some lighter colors as accents.

The sandcastle looked a bit bland until I remembered how when we were kids we would always build ours close to the edge of the water in order to have sea water run through the tunnels and moat we built under and around the castle. Adding in the touches of Mediterranean Blue for the water perked it up and made it seem more interesting.

well, at least the end of this session of gymnastics. it seems impossible to believe odin's first gymnastics class which started three months ago is over already! hi. ho. i'm sure there will be lots of biking and swimming and who-knows-what to take its place over the summer until classes resume in the fall.

maybe by then i'll figure out how to take better pictures in the athletic center :-)

Getting it right in the morning at 6am. Morning exercises gets the day started right... This picture is taken near Hoan Kim Lake, Hanoi. I was surprised when I see the entire park filled with joggers, ladies having aerobics sessions, kids playing soccer, and families playing badminton at 6am. What a sight!

North Carolina National Guard Soldiers of the 1-130th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion hold a joint exercise with U.S. Marines at the Atlantic Marine Corps Outlying Field in Atlantic, N.C., Sept. 9 - 13, 2013. The small facility and airfield tucked in the pine forests of the eastern N.C. seashore near the Cape Lookout Lighthouse was home to nearly 100 NCNG soldiers of the 1-130th ARB. The joint operation consisted of U.S. Marine Corps Special Operations Command Joint Tactical Air Controllers training at nearby Piney Island calling for fire on targets identified by the Marines with NCNG’s AH-64’s live fire rocket and cannon coordinated air support.

we are still weeks away from crocuses.

I am still waiting to hear about my dear man's biopsy.

I haven't exercised in weeks, and I found out that sweetened condensed milk really can pack on the pounds. (serious bummer.)

my heart is full of what if's (what if I am not giving my children what they need?) (what if my mama never finds work again?) (what if I should be doing, giving, feeling, loving MORE)

it's February.

BUT. this moment in the sun was all I needed to remember that all I am and all I have to give is enough. Light is my drug of choice. (along with strong coffee)

Members of the 5th Canadian Ranger Patrol Group (5CRPG) and soldiers from The Royal Newfoundland Regiment explored some of Newfoundland's most remote and rugged territory September 5 to 10 when they conducted a sovereignty patrol across Newfoundland’s Northern Peninsula.

The patrol, called Exercise LONG STRIDE, gave 5CRPG better awareness and navigational knowledge of the remote inland routes on the peninsula. The 13 members on the patrol set out from Jackson's Arm, travelling by long liner to the abandoned outport of Great Harbour Deep. From there, they hiked 62 kilometres overland across the Long Range Mountains to Hawke's Bay on the far side of the peninsula. The trek took five days and followed the historic route once used to connect the coastal communities.
