i saw this and decided i wanted to get to the top. a 40 min run became a 4 hour hike. turns out the king used to fling people off this rock as punishment.
Shortly after Appomattox, a few former Confederate soldiers stole some horses from some Union cavalry. They quickly returned the horses and were assured all was ok. But the US commander ordered them round up and had two of them executed. Their friends erected this monument 30 years later.
