Execution Site Poperinge
During the Great War the courtyard of Poperinge Town Hall was used as an execution site and several British soldiers faced the firing squad here. Today it is an emblematical site for reflection and remembrance. Visitors to the death cells are confronted with a video image of a soldier waiting to be shot at dawn and can read graffiti left by prisoners.

The straw-covered wood protected the brick wall and prevented bullets from ricocheting.
The original wall was removed after Arthur Liebehenschel replaced Rudolf Hoess as the camp commander in November, 1943, and ordered the executions at the wall to stop. A reconstruction stands in its place.

Commune Cadastrale: Centre-Ville. Le puits de Providentia fut construit en 1739 par Georg Raphael Donner, l'exécution des figures provenant de Johann Nikolaus Mol. Sur un bassin en pierres élevé sur plusieurs étapes se trouve dans le centre du bassin sur un balustre cannelé la figure en bronze de la Providentia assis avec un serpent et un signe (tête de Janus) dans ses mains. Le socle est flanqué de quatre putti avec des poissons de la bouche desquels jaillit l'eau. Sur le bord du bassin, il y a quatre divinités fluvialles avec des attributs.

Katastralgemeinde: Innere Stadt. Der Providentiabrunnen wurde 1739 von Georg Raphael Donner errichtet, wobei die Ausführung der Figuren von Johann Nikolaus Moll stammt. Auf einem über mehrere Stufen erhöhten Steinbassin befindet sich in der Mitte des Beckens auf einem kannelierten Baluster die Bronzefigur der sitzenden Providentia mit einer Schlange und einem Schild (Januskopf) in den Händen. Das Postament wird von vier Putten mit wasserspeienden Fischen flankiert. Am Beckenrand befinden sich vier Flussgötter mit Attributen.
