Example of my binding skills. These are from my first quilt; it's doll-sized. I cut the binding on the bias, machine stitched it to the quilt top, and hand stitched it to the back.

This photo shows an extract from a piece of work that came from a project based on the theme of ‘Journey’
I based my work for this project around a journey more personal to me.
I took a select few extracts from journals I’ve been keeping since I was extremely young and recreated them though the process of stitching on a machine and hand stitching.
To finish off this piece I then sewed the collection of journal entries together into a book. This finished stitch book represents the journey me and my journals have undergone over the years with each page signifying important moments in my life.
This is a different color than bermuda turns in the winter. The lighter patches are the color that's more typical. Unless possibly I have more than 1 type of grass growing???

Salisbury cathedral, Wiltshire, UK
Salisbury Cathedral, formally known as the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is an Anglican cathedral in Salisbury, England. The cathedral is regarded as one of the leading examples of Early English architecture. Its main body was completed in 38 years, from 1220 to 1258. Since 1549, the cathedral has had the tallest church spire in the United Kingdom, at 123 m. The cathedral has the largest cloister and the largest cathedral close in Britain at 32 ha. It contains a clock which is among the oldest working examples in the world, and has the best surviving of the four original copies of Magna Carta. In 2008, the cathedral celebrated the 750th anniversary of its consecration. The cathedral is the mother church of the Diocese of Salisbury and is the seat of the Bishop of Salisbury.
The foundation stone was laid in 1220. Much of the freestone for the cathedral came from the Teffont Evias Quarry. As a result of the high water table on the new site, the cathedral was built on foundations only 1.2 m deep, and by 1258 the nave, transepts, and choir were complete. The only major sections begun later were the cloisters, added in 1240, the chapter house in 1263, the tower and spire, which dominated the skyline from 1320. Because most of the cathedral was built in only 38 years, it has a single consistent architectural style, Early English Gothic. In total, 70,000 tons of stone, 3,000 tons of timber and 450 tons of lead were used in the construction of the cathedral.
Significant changes to the cathedral were made by the architect James Wyatt in 1790, including the replacement of the original rood screen and demolition of a bell tower which stood about 98 m northwest of the main building. Salisbury is one of only three English cathedrals to lack a ring of bells. However, its medieval clock does strike the time with bells every 15 minutes.

The Carolina Spritsail Skiff is a traditional boat, historically built on on Harker's Island, North Carolina, on the Outer Banks. The lines were taken for the boat by M.B. Alford in July of 1976 from a boat built in 1911 then owned by Dr R. Borden and now in the Traditional Small Craft collection at the Hampton Mariners Museum in Beaufort NC. The Museum's file number for the plans is #135.
In the mid-1960's, Julian Guthrie, a well-known traditional boatbuilder on Harker's Island built a skiff for the new boat's owner, which the owner used and enjoyed for nearly ten years before selling. The boat never left his mind, however, and he finally decided to have us build him a new one to plans obtained from the Hampton Mariners Museum.

We were fortunate to be able to work with the owner, who not only gave us the commission but the plans and a series of photographs of the original boat built for him in the mid-1960's.
This Carolina Spritsail Skiff is being built by students in the 2014 Traditional Small Craft class under the direction of Master Instructor Jeff Hammond. The plans will be followed exactly, with several slight modifications determined through the owner's previous experience (no sheet holes in the blocking aft, for example) will be incorporated. Provisions will also be made for a small outboard engine to provide enough "iron wind" to push the boat along when windless conditions are encountered in the summer on the Puget Sound.
The sails and rigging will be made by master sailmaker Sean Rankins of Northwest Sails, which is co-located with the School.
The Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding is located in Port Hadlock WA and is an accredited, non-profit vocational school. You can find us on the web at www.nwboatschool.org, on Facebook, SmugMug, and of course, on Flickr.
Our mission is to teach and preserve the fine art of both traditional and contemporary wooden boatbuilding and maritime crafts.
We build both commissioned and speculative boats while teaching students boatbuilding the skills they need to work in the marine trades. We sell our boats to help support the School. Give us a call should you like to discuss our building a boat for you.
You can reach us via e-mail at info@nwboatschool.org or by calling us at 360-385-4948.
A magnificent example of an early Chinoiserie-style china cabinet. This three part, chest-on-chest, Chinese china cabinet has lots of style and lots of storage-12 storage areas, in addition to the main area. Storage for china, silverware, glassware, napkins, etc. The main storage area is presented behind four oval framed doors with glass. The two center doors open and the two doors at each end slide toward the center to allow access or to remove entirely. The center doors have hidden brass pulls. This interior area is lacquered and finished. The middle chest features a lockable pull out center door, flanked by a door on each side. The lower cabinet has numerous doors and drawers.
The black lacquered finish is adorned with hand-painted images in many hues of brown, black and gold paint. The detailed scenes are of family life, gardens, landscapes, children playing, pomegranate, peaches bamboo shoots, flowers and other Chinese symbols. The hand-painting is repeated on the sides of the cabinet as well.

There is no greater flattery than to be made an example of so when we were asked some time ago if we would consent to being published in DesignMeltdown's, The Web Designer's Idea Book, I was truly honored.
Today, I received my copy in the mail and was thrilled to find these kind words on page 102 along side a screen shot on page 103:
"A great example of a unified design is the seyDesign site. It has an office theme, and everything flows together perfectly. The corkboard background creates a terrific foundation to tie the site together. It essentially gives the office supplies a place to exist."
Of course this isn't how the site looks today, but for this 2007 iteration of www.seydesign.com/ to be forever immortalized in print is a true sense of accomplishment. To get yourself a copy of this most excellent web design resource, go to www.amazon.com/gp/product/1600610641?ie=UTF8&tag=loui....

This coach, a standard `K' type Pullman, was built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Co. for the Yorkshire Pullman. However it was put to use on the "White Pullman" which, in 1929, was named the Golden Arrow. After the war it saw further use on the Southern Region, including the Bournemouth Belle.

E.B. and Mary Harvey Barker bought this house of locally quarried limestone in May 1873. The Barkers, who resided on a farm at Rice’s Crossing (20 mi. E), lived here during the winter season so that their eight children could attend school in Round Rock. Their son, Dudley, became a noted Texas Ranger; he returned to the house in 1940 to etch his birth date on an interior wall. As an intact example of a vernacular center-passage house, the dwelling is a vivid reminder of pioneer architecture.
