Celebration World Soil Day in the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia

Related to the celebration event for December 5 (World Soil Day) soil cake was prepared by order of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia. It was one of the best public awareness mechanisms at this event.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, which was attended by representatives of agrarian organizations (public, higher education institutions, non-governmental and others – 15 organizations in total).

The cake consisted of 60 pieces, which was prepared by the confectionery shop “Assort”, located in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. It comprised with different colored biscuits (soil profile accordingly), various colored creams, nuts, walnuts, chocolates and marzipan (sharing the recipe is against to the confectionery copyright terms).

In 2022, World Soil Day slogan idea (“soil, where food begins”), reflected external part of cake. Accordingly, on the green grass background, on rectangular land plots, horizontally were put various agricultural products: cabbage, corn, carrots, peppers and so forth. and when it was cut vertically, differentiated layers were clearly visible. The cake visualization showed especially non soil specialists, the difference between soil and land.

The external part as well as taste of the cake was the best on which attended society was excited.

As an example, it was taken classical soil profile idea and not any soil classification units.

The Heart Theatre is an early example of the repurposing of an existing building. It was built in 1941 inside what used to be a garage in the town of Effingham, Illinois.

The theatre is closed and unoccupied at the moment, but the marquee studded with hundreds of light bulbs, neon tubes, and chromed letters atop an eye-catching red field, still stands proudly. The cream terra cotta tiling is slightly battered, but still largely intact and quite lovely. The handles on the doors are unusual, and very much in keeping with it's Streamline Moderne design.

I was there early in the morning, and the light from the rising sun scattered brilliantly off of the chrome and glass and making the structural glass block that runs up the facade in columns seem lit from within.

This photo shows an extract from a piece of work that came from a project based on the theme of ‘Journey’

I based my work for this project around a journey more personal to me.

I took a select few extracts from journals I’ve been keeping since I was extremely young and recreated them though the process of stitching on a machine and hand stitching.

To finish off this piece I then sewed the collection of journal entries together into a book. This finished stitch book represents the journey me and my journals have undergone over the years with each page signifying important moments in my life.

Highcliffe Castle, Rothesay Drive, Highcliffe, Dorset. BH23 4LE

Highcliffe Castle is a Grade I listed building now owned by Christchurch Council, and described as the most important remaining example of the Romantic and Picturesque style of architecture. It holds events open to the general public throughout the year open, and can be used for weddings and other private events. Highcliffe Castle, situated on the cliffs at Highcliffe, Dorset, was built between 1831 and 1835 by Charles Stuart, 1st Baron Stuart de Rothesay in a Gothic Revival style on the site of High Cliff house, a Georgian Mansion designed for the 3rd Earl of Bute ( a founder of Kew Gardens) with the gardens laid out by Capability Brown. The design, by William Donthorne, a founder member of RIBA, incorporated large quantities of carved Medieval stonework salvaged from the Norman Benedictine Abbey of St Peter at Jumieges and the Grande Maison des Andelys.

The Earl's fourth son, General Sir Charles Stuart sold the estate apart from the nearby smaller Bure Homage House. All that remains of the original High Cliff are the two entrance lodges, now used as a restaurant, also some of the garden walls and features in the lands. The son of Sir Charles Stuart, also Charles Stuart, decided to buy his grandfather's estate and build a new house there. In 1828 Sir Charles Stuart became Lord Stuart de Rothesay.

Early retirement from the diplomatic service meant Lord Stuart could now start on the project to build the new house and by 1830 he had purchased much of the eastern end of the estate. The castle is built on an L shaped plan, oriented on a south-east axis, so the oriel window is central on the south east elevation, providing a vista across the landscaped gardens to a panorama of the needles and Isle of Wight. The house remained in the family until 1950 when much of the estate was sold and eventually developed up to the castle walls.

For a time from 1950 to 1953 the Castle was a children's home before being sold to Claretian Missionary fathers as firstly a noviciate, then for use as a seminary. The castle was put up for sale in 1966, after many years of uncertainty and neglect the castle was eventually restored. Today the Castle’s renovated exterior is testimony of the remarkable skills of craftsmen and women who carried out a huge repair and conservation programme in the 1990s, jointly funded by Christchurch Borough Council, English Heritage and a £2.65 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Mausoleum of I'timad ad Daulah is a stunning example of Mughal architecture standing on the banks of the Yamuna river in the centre of Agra. It was built in 1622-8 to house the tomb of Mirza Ghiyas Beg and his wife, who were also the grandparents of Mumtaz Mahal, for whom another larger and much more famous mausoleum was built nearby; thus this tomb is popularly known as the 'Mini Taj', as it is also believed to be the architectural precedent and forerunner to Agra's most celebrated monument.

The complex consists of the central square mausoleum building, a delicate affair in white marble with minarets at each corner, all of which is covered in an astonishing array of coloured stone inlay, an extremely delicate craft for which Agra is renowned. Around the mausoleum is a garden with four identical gateways in contrasting red sandstone (with white marble inlaid decoration).

Doodle

A doodle is an unfocused or unconscious drawing made while a person's attention is otherwise occupied. Doodles are simple drawings that can have concrete representational meaning or may just be abstract shapes.

Stereotypical examples of doodling are found in school notebooks, often in the margins, drawn by students daydreaming or losing interest during class. Other common examples of doodling are produced during long telephone conversations if a pen and paper are available.

Popular kinds of doodles include cartoon versions of teachers or companions in a school, famous TV or comic characters, invented fictional beings, landscapes, geometric shapes, patterns and textures.

Etymology[edit]

The word doodle first appeared in the early 17th century to mean a fool or simpleton.[1] It may derive from the German Dudeltopf or Dudeldop, meaning simpleton or noodle (literally "nightcap").[1]

The meaning "fool, simpleton" is intended in the song title "Yankee Doodle", originally sung by British colonial troops prior to the American Revolutionary War. This is also the origin of the early eighteenth century verb to doodle, meaning "to swindle or to make a fool of". The modern meaning emerged in the 1930s either from this meaning or from the verb "to dawdle", which since the seventeenth century has had the meaning of wasting time or being lazy.

In the movie Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, Mr. Deeds mentions that "doodle" was a word made up to describe scribblings to help a person think. According to the DVD audio commentary track, the word as used in this sense was invented by screenwriter Robert Riskin.[citation needed]

Effects on memory[edit]

According to a study published in the scientific journal Applied Cognitive Psychology, doodling can aid a person's memory by expending just enough energy to keep one from daydreaming, which demands a lot of the brain's processing power, as well as from not paying attention. Thus, it acts as a mediator between the spectrum of thinking too much or thinking too little and helps focus on the current situation. The study was done by Professor Jackie Andrade, of the School of Psychology at the University of Plymouth, who reported that doodlers in her experiment recalled 7.5 pieces of information (out of 16 total) on average, 29% more than the average of 5.8 recalled by the control group made of non-doodlers.[2]

Alexander Pushkin's notebooks are celebrated for their superabundance of marginal doodles, which include sketches of friends' profiles, hands, and feet. These notebooks are regarded as a work of art in their own right. Full editions of Pushkin's doodles have been undertaken on several occasions.[3] Some of Pushkin's doodles were animated by Andrei Khrzhanovsky and Yuriy Norshteyn in the 1987 film My Favorite Time.[4][5]

Notable doodlers

Nobel laureate (in literature, 1913) poet Rabindranath Tagore made huge number of doodles in his manuscript.[6] Poet and physician John Keats doodled in the margins of his medical notes; other literary doodlers have included Samuel Beckett and Sylvia Plath.[7] Mathematician Stanislaw Ulam developed the Ulam spiral for visualization of prime numbers while doodling during a boring presentation at a mathematics conference.[8] Many American Presidents (including Thomas Jefferson, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton) have been known to doodle during meetings.[9]

Some doodles and drawings can be found in notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci.

In this example, the conclusion of the paper, that higher intake of “processed meat” is associated with increased risk of dementia is not supported by the methodology and is not relevant in establishing causation, especially since unprocessed red meat consumption is shown to have a negative association, and total meat, no association.

The food frequency questionnaires and 24 hour dietary recall were not precise enough to establish confounding with related food items, such as breading of meat, and related carbohydrate/sugar intake was not controlled for, nor was diabetes or insulin resistance. The research question isn’t relevant considering a much more abundant body of research linking insulin resistance and dementia exists and was not mentioned or considered in the study plan.

The Zone System:

This will try and demonstrate the zone system. The gradations above the images are equal greyscales, 10-0 with 10 being the darkest. By obtaining the full spectrum of greys, a photo tends to have nice tonal quality and is pleasing to the eye. It also allows opportunities to enhance sections individually to help bring out more detail and contrast. By applying this to different portions of one image you create more depth, and maybe a little more interest.

The two gradations of the middle foreground are copied portions of the background gradation. Because they were created in photoshop, the gradient has the option of fading to clear, not just white. When you take the first gradient of the middle foreground and invert it, you get solid black. If the gradient faded to white instead of clear (small inset gradation), you would have only flipped the gradient and not "blended" it.

Built high, overlooking the township of Daylesford on the Central Springs Road, Christ Church - the Daylesford Anglican Church - is an early and good example of architect Leonard Terry's church design dating from 1862 or 1863.

It is built in the early English style, and Christ Church never received its intended tower at the south-east corner, but was extended by Inskip and Butler in 1896, with a particularly pleasing chancel of sheer red brick, external surfaces but Picturesque massing.

Christ Church, Daylesford, is of historical significance, being product of an early gold seeking community. It was built in 1862 and 1863 and then extended in 1896. The original portion was funded by the local people under direction of Mr W. E. Stanbridge, and the same person, for some years Member of Legislative Council of Victoria, bequeathed the money to add the 1896 chancel.

The church contains a George Fincham organ installed in 1871.

The church is of social significance in that it has, for 150 years, been an important part of the lives of a significant proportion of the people of town and district, both in the religious development, and in marking the rites of passage. It is one of the landmarks of the town which is a prominent tourist destination for its spa and mineral springs and historical memories. The church is an early example of architect, Leonard Terry's, church design.

RDB awarded 11 local businesses during the 7th edition of the RDB Business Excellence Awards that took place on 31st January, 2020.

The 2019 RDB Business Excellence Awards celebrated efforts made by both corporate and small medium sized enterprises in Rwanda. The awards are an opportunity for the local business community to come together and celebrate business development and success.

About 500 guests including members of local business community, media, development partners and various other stakeholders, attended the ceremony that took place at the Kigali Convention Center.

The nine categories that were awarded were the Investor of the Year, Emerging Investor of the Year, Exporter of the Year, Emerging Exporter of the Year, Innovator of the Year, Woman Entrepreneur of the Year, Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Made in Rwanda Enterprise of the Year, Emerging Made In Rwanda Enterprise of the Year, SME of the Year, and the Skills Development Promoter of the Year.

180 companies applied for the 2019 RDB Business Excellence Awards.

Commenting on the role of the private sector in Rwanda’s development agenda and how the RDB Excellence Awards tie into RDB’s mission of fast tracking investment in Rwanda, RDB Chief Executive Officer, Clare Akamanzi, said:

“As we celebrate the achievements registered by our business community from various areas of our economy, some key milestones epitomize the key role played by our private sector. For example, after recording 173 projects worth US$ 2 billion in investments registered for the first time in the country’s history in 2018, we continued our strong investment growth with over US$ 2.4 billion registered in 2019 – our highest investment registration to date. This increase represents a 23% increase from 2018. This is undoubtedly a vote of confidence of our business environment when you consider that in 2010, less than US$ 400 million worth of projects were registered. While I congratulate all the winners tonight, I want you to know that every single one of you is a winner for choosing to invest in Rwanda.”

In his keynote address, the Guest of Honor, Prime Minister, ÉdouardNgirente, said:

“The business community is an essential component of Rwanda’s trajectory towards achieving an inclusive and sustainable growth by 2024 and middle income status by 2035. The Private sector is currently the largest provider of jobs to our citizens and the Government of Rwanda recognizes the efforts in this direction. The Government also appreciates the role of the business community in increasing the country’s exports. I call upon the business community to engage more in joint ventures (local and foreign) and explore markets through various partnerships to expand their businesses.”

There is no greater flattery than to be made an example of so when we were asked some time ago if we would consent to being published in DesignMeltdown's, The Web Designer's Idea Book, I was truly honored.

Today, I received my copy in the mail and was thrilled to find these kind words on page 102 along side a screen shot on page 103:

"A great example of a unified design is the seyDesign site. It has an office theme, and everything flows together perfectly. The corkboard background creates a terrific foundation to tie the site together. It essentially gives the office supplies a place to exist."

Of course this isn't how the site looks today, but for this 2007 iteration of www.seydesign.com/ to be forever immortalized in print is a true sense of accomplishment. To get yourself a copy of this most excellent web design resource, go to www.amazon.com/gp/product/1600610641?ie=UTF8&tag=loui....

Umpire Rock, Central Park, New York. One of the best examples of Central Park's rich endowment of exposed bedrock, Umpire Rock is likely named for its commanding view of nearby baseball diamonds. Central Park has an unusually rich endowment of exposed, ancient bedrock. Lying between Heckcher Playground and Heckscher Ballfields, Umpire Rock gets its name for the commanding view visitors get of the baseball field from atop the mound of, mica-flecked stone that comprises 90 percent of the bedrock under Manhattan. The schist was formed from sedimentary shale by intense subterranean heat and pressure some 450 million years ago in the Paleozoic Era. While the schist of Umpire Rock was being formed, it was twisted and folded by upheavals in the earth's depths. Minerals scattered in the former shale were fused into crystals of quartz, mica, feldspar and garnet within the schist. Lighter-colored veins of granite and coarser granite pegmatite are visible across the grain. These inlays were actually once liquefied rock from the earth's interior before they were injected into fissures in the schist and cooled into bands of solid rock.
