Built in the 19th century, this street in Athens has all the characteristics of good urbanism: narrow, compact, well-proportioned with a wide mix of uses and, presumably, walkable.
But it is now dysfunctional for pedestrians and for cars. Cars move one-way only. There is no space for unloading goods to the flanking stores.
Lines of bollards were installed to prevent cars from parking on the sidewalk thus clearing a space for pedestrians but to no avail. The meagre sidewalk is blocked anyway!
Good urbanism turned dysfunctional.
All I can really say is that this show was bigger and better than I had ever hoped for. Evolve took on a life of its own and so many of the artists shared their own powerful stories of overcoming whatever life has tossed along their path.

Gay, straight, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender, Black Latino, White, Armenian, poor, broke, rich, wealthy, HIV positive, HIV negative and even two homeless individuals were all artists in this show. The was a direct representation of what Los Angeles looks like and together we showed why we are the City of Angels
About 400 attended the opening at Art Share-LA in Downtown Los Angeles. The event was a complete success with people coming from as far north as Sacramento as far south as San Diego. New York, Denver and even two folks from Atlanta made the trek to the Evolve opening. I was completely blown away.

With a stupid golf cart in the way. It made me pretty mad. Anyways, the day this was taken I was on one of the islands on Lake Erie, called South Bass Island. It's a beautiful place and people really only live there in the summers, also, the main type of transportation on the island is golf carts, hence the stupid one in front of my could've been awesome photo.

The area now covered by Hanover County was a rapidly evolving society in the seventeenth and early-eighteenth centuries, resulting in the erection and subsequent division of parishes. When St. Paul’s Parish was created in 1704, this area was still a part of New Kent County. These shifts in population and local political structures also meant that churches were built and abandoned with some frequency until things began to become more settled in the early-1700s. In 1729, the vestry of St. Paul’s Parish employed Thomas Pinchback and Edward Chambers, Jr. to construct a new church on land purchased from William Alsop, Jr. The new building of frame construction was ordered to be sixty feet in length and twenty-six feet in width with walls sixteen feet high. The church was completed within a year for which Pinchback and Chambers received sixty thousand pounds of tobacco. Constructed of native southern yellow pine, Slash Church is the oldest surviving frame church in Virginia.
Slash Church’s history has been largely driven through the unique incumbents who served the congregation. For much of its colonial history, the church was led by Rev. Patrick Henry, the uncle of Founding Father and orator Patrick Henry who famously spoke the words “give me liberty or give me death” during the Second Virginia Convention held on March 23, 1775 at Richmond’s St. John’s Church. The Rev. Henry’s sister, mother of the orator Henry was a dissenter and attended Presbyterian services held at the nearby Polegreen Church. Upon Rev. Henry’s death in 1777, the rectorship of Slash Church was assumed by Rev. Talley who converted to Universalism during the American Revolutionary War. The original Anglican (Episcopal) congregation disbanded during the war and Slash Church was used by Methodists and eventually Disciples of Christ congregations. It is believed that several prominent dissenting pastors preached at Slash Church during visits to the Virginia Colony, including Methodist leaders Rev. George Whitefield and Bishop Francis Asbury, Baptist minister Rueben Ford, and the founder of the Disciples of Christ, Rev. Alexander Campbell.
During the American Civil War, Slash Church was the scene of a major encampment, housed wounded soldiers, and was the center of a battle during the Peninsula Campaign of mid-1862 which left trees surrounding the church littered with bullets.

2025 Kentville Grand Street Parade - A brief 45-minute and a very limited and compacted Kentville Grand Street Parade this year ? Zero large marching street bands and majorettes invited other than 1 mini version of the standard RCMP entrée, No Sottish pipers or pipe bands, zero in Royalty or their famous royal floats, Most of the regular nearby Valley village participants weren't here, Zero horses or wagons, No armaments, soldiers, bands or displays from the Aldershot military or Greenwood, etc etc, ? And yet the Guest parade announcer proclaims in her, quote @ 29:17, " this parade is the largest in Canada, incl Toronto - it's the longest with the largest route and has the most entries. " Wha-a-a-t, where did she come from and what is she talkin about ?

May 30th, 2025 - High level security enforcement for this years Memorial Park Friday night rock concert ? ( must have taken up most of the budget ) ? Town of Kentville brings in outside police, closes roads, and sets up manned traffic guard posts to provide tightened security for their Friday night Memorial Park Apple Blossom outdoor concert that in the past had always featured guest rock bands, interesting displays, and a Royal visit following a prestigious coronation ceremony in Wolfville, but is now severely cut back to some kind of an outdoor romper room type family show featuring food trucks, fireworks, air blown up jumpers and some minimal live local entertainment as their main stage event ? Reports that one parking violator was successfully apprehended thanks to the upgraded crowd control security and strict traffic control hired for this event ?
