OSKAR KOKOSCHKA

Oskar Kokoschka, born March 1, 1886 in Pöchlarn, near Vienna, Austria-Hungary and died February 22, 1980 in Montreux, Switzerland, was an Austrian expressionist painter and writer.

From 1905 to 1909, Kokoschka studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna, where he was notably a pupil of Gustav Klimt. He participated in the exhibitions of modernism led by Klimt.

Painter, but also writer, playwright and poet, Oskar Kokoschka thus appears as a committed artist, driven by the artistic and intellectual upheavals of Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century. By his desire to express the intensity of the moods of his time, and a certain talent for provocation, he became for critics the terrible child of Vienna from 1908 where, supported by Gustav Klimt, he inspired a new generation of artists, including Egon Schiele. Portrait painter of Viennese society, Kokoschka strives to reveal the inner life of his models, even if it means shocking his sponsors with his acerbic point of view, putting truth above beauty.

His painting, at this time, evolved rapidly. In 1915, he enlisted in the Austro-Hungarian army during the First World War, he was seriously injured during a fight in Ukraine, then the following year by a grenade attack.

In 1917 he moved to Dresden. But a tireless traveler, in the 1920s he undertook incessant journeys in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. His financial fragility forced him to return to Vienna, which experienced major political unrest from the beginning of the 1930s, forcing him to leave for Prague in 1934 where he met the woman who would become his wife, Olda Palkovská. Qualified by the Nazis as a "degenerate" artist, his works were removed from German museums. Kokoschka then fully committed himself to the defense of freedom in the face of fascism. Forced into exile, he managed to flee to Great Britain in 1938 where he took part in the international resistance.

After the war, he became a reference figure on the European intellectual scene and participated in the cultural reconstruction of a devastated and divided continent. Distancing himself from Germanic culture and language, he moved to Villeneuve, in French-speaking Switzerland, in 1953. He spent the last twenty-seven years of his life there. The works of recent years bear witness to a pictorial radicalism close to his first works, in their absence of concessions. His belief in the subversive power of painting, a vector of emancipation and education, remained unshakeable until his death.

we flourish

we expand

we evolve

we become. . .

who we are meant to be.

Big fan of the F4 retro card gimmick, even more so of the retro Spider-Man cards, and as soon as I saw this guy I knew there was an unfamiliar character I needed to take a deep dive into.

Looking for a digital trade paperback of the Evolutionary Wars (88) if anyone has a suggestion? Not seeing it on Amazon or Marvel’s app.

Very cool sculpt and colors on this guy. Happy to add him to the Cosmic shelf!

Overview of the e-Volve Gadget Holster 2.0 for cell phone, iPhone, wallet items and more.

All I can really say is that this show was bigger and better than I had ever hoped for. Evolve took on a life of its own and so many of the artists shared their own powerful stories of overcoming whatever life has tossed along their path.

Over 20 photographers, ceramicists and artists were part of this event. Gay, straight, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender, Black Latino, White, Armenian, poor, broke, rich, wealthy, HIV positive, HIV negative and even two homeless individuals were all artists in this show. The was a direct representation of what Los Angeles looks like and together we showed why we are the City of Angels

About 400 attended the opening at Art Share-LA in Downtown Los Angeles. The event was a complete success with people coming from as far north as Sacramento as far south as San Diego. New York, Denver and even two folks from Atlanta made the trek to the Evolve opening. I was completely blown away.

Big thanks to all the artists for their beautiful pieces, my family, friends and supporters for continuing to embrace my work through Project KengiKat and Do Something Saturday and to everyone who donated and attended the event I want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.

Exhibit Hire has evolved from furniture hire into a multi-disciplinary event and exhibition company. With our main office based in West London and our production facility based in Cardiff South Wales, we are ideally located to serve London as well as the rest of the UK.

Evolve Beauty Lounge

I guess I have to add some explanations for non Italians (and maybe for young Italians)

In fact "Piazza del Gesù" was the traditional residence of the catholic party "Democrazia Cristiana" that disappeared some years ago ( though some new parties are now claiming its heritage) and the poster says "things are changing".

The poster calls for people to vote for primary elections within the new party "Partito Democratico" that conveys into a new party both the "DS" party evolved from the former "Italian Communist Party" and the "Margherita" party which was a new catholic party ...

I guess that the unknown hand who posted the poster was intentionally choosing that special place ...

I read the outcome as a warning to people who would like to put together again the "Democrazia Cristiana" party

I think this is a temporal sculpture depicting the growth of the city's coastline over the years.
